The coordinated action of a plethora of factors is required for the organization and dynamics of membranous structures critically underlying the development and function of cells, organs, and organisms. The evolutionary acquisition of additional amino acid motifs allows for expansion and/or specification of protein functions. We identify a thus far unrecognized motif specific for chordata EHBP1 proteins and demonstrate that this motif is critically required for interaction with syndapin I, an F-BAR domain-containing, membrane-shaping protein predominantly expressed in neurons.

Purpose Of Review: This review comments on the current guidelines for the treatment of wound infections under definition of acute bacterial skin and skin structure infections (ABSSSI). However, wound infections around a catheter, such as driveline infections of a left ventricular assist device (LVAD) are not specifically listed under this definition in any of the existing guidelines.

Recent Findings: Definitions and classification of LVAD infections may vary across countries, and the existing guidelines and recommendations may not be equally interpreted among physicians, making it unclear if these infections can be considered as ABSSSI.

As the heterogeneity of symptoms is increasingly recognized among long-COVID patients, it appears highly relevant to study potential pathophysiological differences along the different subtypes. Preliminary evidence suggests distinct alterations in brain structure and systemic inflammatory patterns in specific groups of long-COVID patients. To this end, we analyzed differences in cortical thickness and peripheral immune signature between clinical subgroups based on 3 T-MRI scans and signature inflammatory markers in n = 120 participants comprising healthy never-infected controls (n = 30), healthy COVID-19 survivors (n = 29), and subgroups of long-COVID patients with (n = 26) and without (n = 35) cognitive impairment according to screening with Montreal Cognitive Assessment.
