The current approaches for detecting most colorectal polyps and early neoplasms lack sufficient sensitivity and specificity, potentially hindering treatment and ultimately reducing survival rates. Here, we performed a metagenomic analysis to identify microbiome markers in stool samples from patients with early-stage colorectal cancer (CRC). We compared the composition of gut microbiota between patients with CRC and healthy individuals, specifically focusing on patients with early-stage CRC, defined as those without core mutations (KRAS, BRAF) for CRC diagnosis, stable microsatellite instability, and distant metastasis.

Increased arterial stiffness elevates aortic load, which can have adverse impacts on left ventricular (LV) function and contribute to the onset of heart failure. This impact is known to be more pronounced in women. Optimal coordination between ventricular contraction and the arterial system is required to maintain efficient cardiac function.

Background: Although the relationship between fatty acids (FAs) and the risk of all-cause mortality has been long discussed, there is little evidence about the impact of each FA component on all-cause mortality by kidney function status.
Methods: We used data from the U.S.

Based on the hypothesis that hyperuricemia is a modifiable risk factor for chronic kidney disease (CKD) progression, there is an expectation that urate-lowering therapy (ULT) could delay the progression of CKD. Here, we investigated changes in kidney function and the association of the serum uric acid (sUA) level and kidney function during ULT in patients with gout. To do this we conducted post-hoc analysis on patients who received ULT with either febuxostat or allopurinol for more than six months in the CARES trial.

Purpose: To elucidate the mechanism underlying changes in choroidal metrics (choroidal thickness [CT], choroidal vascularity index [CVI], and choriocapillaris [CC] flow deficit [FD]) observed in diabetic retinopathy (DR) and examine the association of choroidal metrics with both retinal vessel geometry and optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) metrics.
Methods: Overall, 133 eyes of 133 patients were analyzed retrospectively. Retinal vessel geometry parameters were assessed using semiautomated software.

This study aimed to investigate the characteristics of out-of-office blood pressure (BP) measurements in patients with apparent treatment-resistant hypertension (aRH) enrolled from 15 tertiary care centers in South Korea. aRH was defined as having uncontrolled office BP ≥ 130/80 mmHg despite receiving three classes of antihypertensive medication or any level of BP despite receiving ≥4 classes of antihypertensive medication. Patients with complete data for office BP, 24-h ambulatory BP monitoring (ABPM), and home BP measurements at baseline were included.

Background: The age at onset (AAO) of Parkinson's disease (PD) varies widely among individuals and significantly influences disease progression and prognosis. However, few genome-wide association studies (GWASs) have investigated genetic variants determining AAO, particularly in East Asian populations.
Objectives: To identify single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) affecting AAO of PD in Korean patients.

The auditory brainstem response (ABR) is a noninvasive test that measures neural activity in response to auditory stimuli. Racial differences in head shape have provided strong evidence for specific normative data and accurate device calibration. International standards emphasize the need for standardized procedures and references.

Despite the high incidence of dry mouth in postmenopausal women, its underlying mechanisms and therapeutic interventions remain underexplored. Using ovariectomized (OVX) mouse models, here this study identifies ferroptosis, an iron-dependent regulated cell death, as a central mechanism driving postmenopausal salivary gland (SG) dysfunction. In the OVX-SGs, TGFβ signaling pathway is enhanced with the aberrant TGFβ2 expression in SG mesenchymal cells.

The aim of this study was to evaluate safety and efficacy of a poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA)-coated magnesium (Mg)-Dysprosium (Dy) membrane in guided bone regeneration (GBR) using a rabbit calvarium model. The microstructure of the Mg-Dy membrane surface and thickness of the PLLA coating were examined. In vitro degradation and cytotoxicity test was conducted.

Mobile-bearing (MB) total knee arthroplasty (TKA) implants were introduced as an alternative to fixed-bearing (FB) implants because of their theoretical advantages related to femorotibial rotational mismatch. The purpose of this study is to compare the clinical and radiologic outcomes of MB and FB TKA after approximately 13 years of follow-up. We compared the results of 88 patients with a mean age of 66 years who had received a rotating platform MB implant or a FB implant.

Background And Purpose: Nutritional status can influence the outcomes and mortality of various diseases. The association between initial nutritional status and ischemic stroke outcomes, however, remains poorly understood. This study investigated whether the Controlling Nutritional Status (CONUT) score at admission could predict functional recovery, complications, and survival following an ischemic stroke.

Background: Radioresistance is a major clinical challenge in cancer treatment, as it reduces the effectiveness of radiation therapy (RT). While advances in radiation delivery have enabled the clinical use of high-dose hypofractionated RT, its impact on radioresistant tumors remains unclear. This study aimed to compare the effects of single high-dose RT with conventional fractionated RT on radioresistant breast cancer cells and explore the underlying mechanisms.

Background: Hypertension is one of the most important complications of chronic kidney disease (CKD) as it exacerbates disease progression in children. The aim of this study is to identify characteristics and factors associated with hypertension in children with CKD.
Methods: This is a cross-sectional study using baseline data from the 10-year ongoing cohort study named KNOW-PedCKD (Korean Cohort Study for Outcome in Patients with Pediatric Chronic Kidney Disease).

Introduction: Carotid artery stenting is an alternative interventional treatment to carotid endarterectomy. However, preprocedural considerations and anatomical risk factor analyses for carotid artery stenting are currently insufficient. Therefore, we investigated the high-risk anatomical appearance of carotid artery stenting from the neurointerventionist perspective to predict periprocedural complications.

Background: There is growing evidence that long non-coding RNA long iatrogenic non-protein-coding RNA p53-induced transcript (LINC-PINT) is highly expressed in cancer tissue and is associated with the prognosis of cancer patients. The present study systematically analyzed the prognostic significance of LINC-PINT expression in cancer patients. We aimed to reveal the association between LINC-PINT expression and survival in cancer patients.

This case series highlights chronic subdural hematoma in previously healthy young and middle-aged patients, where symptoms persisted despite initial surgical intervention. Subsequent diagnosis revealed spontaneous intracranial hypotension through computed tomography myelography. All patients experienced symptom relief after undergoing epidural blood patch.
