We design and fabricate hybrid organic inorganic perovskite photodetectors that utilize hole transport layer poly(3,4-ethylene dioxythiophene):poly (styrenesulfonate) PEDOT:PSS confined in alumina nanocylinders. This structural asymmetry in the device where the alumina nanopore template is partially filled with PEDOT:PSS provides features that improve certain device characteristics. The leakage component of the current in such devices is considerably suppressed, resulting in enhanced responsivity and detectivity.

Dependence of the Glass Transition and Jamming Densities on Spatial Dimension.

Phys Rev Lett

Theoretical Sciences Unit and School of Advanced Materials, Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research, Jakkur Campus, 560064 Bengaluru, India.

We investigate the dynamics of soft sphere liquids through computer simulations for spatial dimensions from d=3 to 8, over a wide range of temperatures and densities. Employing a scaling of density-temperature-dependent relaxation times, we precisely identify the density ϕ_{0}, which marks the ideal glass transition in the hard sphere limit, and a crossover from sub- to super-Arrhenius temperature dependence. The difference between ϕ_{0} and the athermal jamming density ϕ_{J}, small in 3 and 4 dimensions, increases with dimension, with ϕ_{0}>ϕ_{J} for d>4.

All real heat engines, be it conventional macro engines or colloidal and atomic micro engines, inevitably tradeoff efficiency in their pursuit to maximize power. This basic postulate of finite-time thermodynamics has been the bane of all engine design for over two centuries and all optimal protocols implemented hitherto could at best minimize only the loss in the efficiency. The absence of a protocol that allows engines to overcome this limitation has prompted theoretical studies to suggest universality of the postulate in both passive and active engines.

We numerically examine the driven transport of an overdamped self-propelled particle through a two-dimensional array of circular obstacles. A detailed analysis of transport quantifiers (mobility and diffusivity) has been performed for two types of channels, channel I and channel II, that respectively correspond to the parallel and diagonal drives with respect to the array axis. Our simulation results show that the signatures of pinning actions and depinning processes in the array of obstacles are manifested through excess diffusion peaks or sudden drops in diffusivity, and abrupt jumps in mobility with varying amplitude of the drive.

Herein, we have specifically designed two metalated porous organic polymers (Zn-POP and Co-POP) for syngas (CO+H ) production from gaseous CO . The variable H /CO ratio of syngas with the highest efficiency was produced in water medium (without an organic hole scavenger and photosensitizer) by utilizing the basic principle of Lewis acid/base chemistry. Also, we observed the formation of entirely different major products during photocatalytic CO reduction and water splitting with the help of the two catalysts, where CO (145.

It has been challenging to design multifunctional lead-free organic-inorganic hybrid halides that can exhibit fascinating magnetic and photoluminescence properties since the dimensionality of the compounds has a contrasting impact on them. In this context, our newly synthesized compound (2-bromoethylammonium)MnBr (BEAMBr) crystallizes in the monoclinic 2/ space group with corner-sharing zigzag 1D chains of MnBr distorted octahedra. Intriguingly, it exhibits a long-range antiferromagnetic ordering at low temperature (∼2.

The diffusivity of water in aqueous cesium iodide solutions is larger than that in neat liquid water and vice versa for sodium chloride solutions. Such peculiar ion-specific behavior, called anomalous diffusion, is not reproduced in typical force field based molecular dynamics (MD) simulations due to inadequate treatment of ion-water interactions. Herein, this hurdle is tackled by using machine learned atomic potentials (MLPs) trained on data from density functional theory calculations.

Emerging resistance against artemisinin (ART) poses a major challenge in controlling malaria. Parasites with mutations in PfKelch13, the major marker for ART resistance, are known to reduce hemoglobin endocytosis, induce unfolded protein response (UPR), elevate phosphatidylinositol-3-phosphate (PI3P) levels, and stimulate autophagy. Nonetheless, PfKelch13-independent resistance is also reported, indicating extensive complementation by reconfiguration in the parasite metabolome and transcriptome.

Discontinuous rigidity transition associated with shear jamming in granular simulations.

Soft Matter

December 2023

Theoretical Sciences Unit and School of Advanced Materials, Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research, Rachenahalli Lake Road, Bengaluru 560064, India.

We investigate the rigidity transition associated with shear jamming in frictionless, as well as frictional, disk packings in the quasi-static regime and at low shear rates. For frictionless disks, the transition under quasi-static shear is discontinuous, with an instantaneous emergence of a system spanning rigid clusters at the jamming transition. For frictional systems, the transition appears continuous for finite shear rates, but becomes sharper for lower shear rates.

Traditionally, the Coulomb repulsion or Peierls instability causes the metal-insulator phase transitions in strongly correlated quantum materials. In comparison, magnetic stress is predicted to drive the metal-insulator transition in materials exhibiting strong spin-lattice coupling. However, this mechanism lacks experimental validation and an in-depth understanding.

Department of Metallurgical Engineering and Materials Science, Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, Mumbai 400 076, India.

MgSbBi solid-solutions represent an important class of thermoelectric (TE) materials due to their high efficiency and variable operating temperature range. Of particular significance for midtemperature applications is the MgSbBi composition whose superior thermoelectric (TE) performance is attributed to the complex conduction band edge in conjunction with alloy dominated phonon scattering. In this work, we show that microstructure also plays a significant role in lowering the lattice thermal conductivity which in turn affects the overall TE performance (change in peak zT values between 1.
