Introduction: Autoimmune hemolytic anemia (AIHA) is a condition in which there is decreased survival of red blood cells (RBC) due to the destruction of RBC by autoantibodies. AIHA is classified into warm, cold, and mixed according to temperature sensitivity. The antibodies may be immunoglobulin G, immunoglobulin M, immunoglobulin A, or complement proteins, and hemolysis may be intravascular or extravascular.

Background: Preclinical studies have documented the role of alpha-adrenergic agonists in myometrial contraction. Phenylephrine is frequently used to prevent and treat post-spinal hypotension during cesarean delivery. We hypothesized phenylephrine would reduce postpartum blood loss due to alpha-1 receptor-mediated uterine and vascular smooth muscle contraction.

Background: The estimated incidence of pulmonary embolism (PE) is around 60-70 cases per 100,000 people annually. The overall mortality rate for massive PE is substantial, ranging from 18% to 65%. We can utilise changes in lung perfusion to stratify patients with PE acutely based on risk, highlighting its diagnostic and prognostic value.

Objectives: Human metapneumovirus (hMPV) is recognized as a significant cause of acute respiratory infections among infants under 5 years of age.
Methods: Nasal swabs collected from January 2021 to June 2024 were screened to detect hMPV using reverse transcription-quantitative polymerase chain reaction. Furthermore, representative positive samples were sequenced and subjected to phylogenetic analysis.

Background And Aim: Despite the sustained progress in the realm of intraoperative neurophysiologic monitoring of the nervous system, little progress has been achieved in monitoring the olfactory pathway. Loss of olfactory function due to retraction-induced physical damage during operations has ill-appreciated negative consequences for the patients and is often underreported. Improvements in this area of neuromonitoring require a revisit of the technical challenges.

Purpose: Response to neoadjuvant chemotherapy in form of tumor necrosis predicts outcome in osteosarcoma; although response-adapted treatment escalation failed to improve outcome among patients treated with high-dose methotrexate-based (HDMTx) chemotherapy. This study aimed to identify factors predicting tumor necrosis and its impact on survival among patients with non-metastatic osteosarcoma treated with a response-adapted non-HDMTx regimen.
Methods: A retrospective single-institutional study was conducted among non-metastatic osteosarcoma patients treated with neoadjuvant therapy between 2004-2019.

The existence of a mutual relationship between gut microbiota and immune homeostasis highlights its importance in the context of kidney transplantation. The translational utility of gut microbiota as a biomarker for allograft injury has not been assessed before. In this study, we aimed to characterize the gut microbial diversity in kidney transplant recipients and investigate the alterations in the gut microbial composition in association with allograft injury such as histopathological graft rejection and calcineurin inhibitor toxicity.

Background: Preeclamptic women, in addition to traditional antihypertensive medications, often receive magnesium supplementation and are at increased risk of postspinal hypotension Postspinal hypotension increases the risk of fetomaternal morbidity. Calcium is a physiological antagonist of magnesium in vascular smooth muscle. Therefore, the study hypothesized that calcium is better suited for preserving systemic vascular resistance and preventing postspinal hypotension during cesarean delivery.
