Introduction: Affective-sexual education is essential for all people, regardless of their intellectual capacity. However, people with intellectual disabilities, and especially those with conceptual, social, and practical limitations, may face additional challenges. In this study, we evaluate the effectiveness of the Saludiversex-M affective-sexual education program for people with moderate intellectual disabilities using a controlled trial design.

Background: Hypersensitivity reactions to chemotherapy disrupt treatment schedules and compromise patient outcomes. Rapid Drug Desensitization (RDD) enables patients to tolerate future treatments after an allergy workup. However, Same-Day Desensitization (SDD) is a novel approach that capitalizes on RDD to allow the continuation of chemotherapy on the same day as the index reaction, preventing treatment delays.

Graph analysis of guilt processing network highlights links with subclinical anxiety and self-blame.

Soc Cogn Affect Neurosci

December 2024

Neuropsychology and Functional Neuroimaging Group, Department of Basic and Clinical Psychology and Psychobiology, Jaume I University, Castellon de la Plana 12-006, Spain.

Maladaptive forms of guilt, such as excessive self-blame, are common characteristics of anxiety and depressive disorders. The underlying network consists of multiple associative areas, including the superior anterior temporal lobe (sATL), underlying the conceptual representations of social meaning, and fronto-subcortical areas involved in the affective dimension of guilt. Nevertheless, despite understanding the circuitry's anatomy, network-level changes related to subclinical anxiety and self-blaming behaviour have not been depicted.

It is unclear whether physiological responses, such as muscle oxygen saturation (SmO), can be considered symmetrical during cycling. This knowledge has important practical implications for both training and performance assessment. The aim of this study was to determine whether oxygenation profiles in the three active muscles of both legs were symmetrical during cycling at different intensities.

Article Synopsis
  • Family members of individuals with Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) often struggle with mental health issues like depression and anxiety, leading to a significant burden.
  • Family Connections (FC) is an effective program designed for these relatives, and this study aimed to compare its impact against standard treatment in a Spanish population through a randomized clinical trial.
  • Although no major statistical differences were found between FC and the usual treatment, results indicated that FC led to improved outcomes in burden, stress, and quality of life for both family members and patients, highlighting the value of involving families in treatment for psychological disorders.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study examined the prevalence of abdominal obesity (AO), high waist-to-height ratio (WtHR), and excess adiposity (EA) in a sample of 6,588 adults aged 18 to 102 years and their connections to cardiovascular-kidney-metabolic (CKM) syndrome factors.
  • - Results showed that 39.6% of participants had AO, 30.6% had high-WtHR, and 65.6% had EA, with higher rates observed in older individuals; key health issues like hypertension and diabetes were linked to these conditions.
  • - Findings indicate that a significant portion of the adult population experiences EA and AO, highlighting an independent association between these obesity metrics and other CKM syndrome factors

Gastrocnemius Neuromuscular Activation During Standing Explosive Acceleration.

Life (Basel)

October 2024

Research Group in Sports Biomechanics (GIBD), Department of Physical Education and Sports, University of Valencia, 46010 Valencia, Spain.

The gastrocnemius muscle plays a crucial role in transmitting and generating energy during standing explosive accelerations, and as a consequence, is a muscle with high injury prevalence, especially the medial gastrocnemius (MG). This study aimed to compare the neuromuscular activation of the lateral gastrocnemius (LG) and MG during one of the most common standing explosive accelerations performed in team sports-the false start that occurs in jumps where the leg steps back before moving forward. Forty-two physically active participants (34 males: age = 24 ± 5 years, body mass = 73 ± 10.

Absorbent hygiene products (AHP) are single-use materials that are discarded after use. These products include diapers for babies and adults, menstrual pads, absorbent pads, and other personal hygiene items that represent a significant proportion of municipal solid waste (MSW). In this research, the impact of a pilot campaign for the separation of these AHP in a neighborhood of a city in eastern Spain has been studied.

Unlabelled: Backgound/Objectives: Cycle threshold (Ct) values of SARS-CoV-2 real-time reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) tests are associated with infectivity and viral load, and they could be an aid in forecasting the evolution of SARS-CoV-2 outbreaks. The objective was to know the Ct values related to the incidence and reinfection of SARS-CoV-2 in successive outbreaks, which took place in nursing homes in Castellon (Spain) during 2020-2022, and to test its usefulness as an instrument of epidemic surveillance in nursing homes.

Methods: a retrospective cohort design with Poisson regression and multinomial logistic regression were used.

Exploring the impact of plant genotype and fungicide treatment on endophytic communities in tomato stems.

Front Microbiol

September 2024

Biochemistry and Biotechnology Group, Department of Biology, Biochemistry and Natural Sciences, Jaume I University, Castellón de la Plana, Spain.

This study examines how plant genotype can influence the microbiome by comparing six tomato genotypes () based on their traditional vs. commercial backgrounds. Using Illumina-based sequencing of the V6-V8 regions of 16S and ITS2 genes, we analyzed and compared the endophytic bacterial and fungal communities in stems to understand how microbiota can differ and be altered in plant genotypes and the relation to human manipulation.

Purpose: To compare primary patency after angioplasty with drug-coated balloon (DCB)-Passeo-18Lux, BIOTRONIK versus uncoated balloon in dysfunctional peripheral vascular access (PVA) for hemodialysis.

Material And Methods: A total of 133 patients from four hospitals were randomized to receive DCB or plain old balloon angioplasty (POBA) after satisfactory treatment (residual stenosis <30%) with high pressure balloon (HPB). The primary endpoint was clinical patency of PVA 2 years after angioplasty.

Anaerobic treatment of industrial wastewater using upflow anaerobic reactors is an extended trend due to its high efficiency and biogas production potential, but its implementation in some sectors is limited due to the complexity and toxicity of the wastewaters. In this study, a two-stage expanded granular sludge bed (EGSB) reactors system has been investigated at both bench and pilot scale for the treatment of complex and toxic real wastewater from a petrochemical industry. The effect of different operational parameters including organic loading rate (OLR), hydraulic retention time (HRT) and influent characteristics over COD removal and biogas production and composition have been studied.
