Beyond the Marrow: Unveiling Uncommon Sites of ALL Relapse with F-FDG PET/CT.

Extramedullary infiltration of acute lymphoblastic leukemia/lymphoma (ALL) to genital organs is extremely rare. Here, we present a case report of an asymptomatic 49-year-old female, known case of precursor B-cell ALL, who was incidentally detected with thickened and heterogeneously hyperechoic endometrium on sonography. Contrast magnetic resonance imaging detected large polypoidal enhancing lesions showing intense diffusion restriction occupying the endometrial cavity and similar lesions in the left adnexa, left ovary, and fallopian tube which were suspicious for leukemic infiltration because of the clinical history and atypical appearance of the lesions.

Trifecta of Tumors: Simultaneous Detection of Three Primary Malignancies by Different Radiotracers of Nuclear Medicine.

Malignancies are increasing worldwide with changing lifestyle, pollution, increasing life expectancy, and diagnostic advancements. However, multiple primary malignancies (MPMs) detected simultaneously are very rare. Here, we present a rare case of three primary malignancies (sigmoid colon, prostate, and thyroid) detected simultaneously in a 77-year-old male patient, who initially presented with bleeding per rectum and was then found to have a large pedunculated mass in the sigmoid colon on colonoscopy, which further turned out to be adenocarcinoma.

Progressive Supranuclear Palsy in India: Past, Present, and Future.

Progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP) has emerged as a key area of interest among researchers worldwide, including those in India, who have actively studied the disorder over the past several decades. This review meticulously explores the extensive range of Indian research on PSP up to the present and offers insights into both current initiatives and potential future directions for managing PSP within the region. Historical research contributions have spanned 80 publications from 1974 to 2023, encompassing diverse themes from clinical phenotyping and historical analysis to isolated investigative studies and therapeutic trials.

Reclassifying cT4b buccal mucosa/gingivobuccal complex cancers: do we need to change?

T4b carcinomas are termed as very locally advanced carcinomas of the oral cavity and are deemed borderline resectable or unresectable. The role of surgery for these patients is not well defined. We therefore aimed to relook at the role of surgery for cT4b carcinoma of the oral cavity.

Achievement of ABC Goals in Type 2 Diabetes in Real-life.

This real-life observational study from a diabetes centre in Western India reports the status of A1C (glycated hemoglobin), blood pressure, and cholesterol levels (ABC goals) currently achieved in type 2 diabetic patients. A cohort of 497 patients of type 2 diabetes first seen at the Diabetes Endocrine Nutrition Management and Research Centre from the years 2014 to 2017 were followed for a median [interquartile range (IQR)] duration of 21.5 (7, 33) months.

Impact of Dance or Music and Meditation on the Progression of Parkinson Disease With Mild or Moderate Severity: Protocol for a Pilot Randomized Controlled Trial.

Background: Parkinson disease (PD) is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder characterized by motor dysfunctions and nonmotor symptoms. Current treatments do not alter disease progression, highlighting the need for alternative therapies. Music, dance, and mindfulness meditation have shown the potential to improve symptoms and quality of life in patients with PD.

Expanding Opportunities for Living Donation: Recommendations From the 2023 Santander Summit to Ensure Donor Protections, Informed Decision Making, and Equitable Access.

A strategic vision toward global convergence in transplantation must encourage and remove barriers to living organ donation and transplantation. Here, we discuss deliberations of a working group of the 2023 Santander Summit charged with formulating recommendations for the safe expansion of living donor kidney transplantation and living donor liver transplantation worldwide. Living donor kidney transplantation has grown to be the preferred treatment for advanced kidney failure.

Reinforcing Global Oversight of Organ Transplantation: Activity and Outcome Monitoring Through the Development of Registries.

Establishing transparency and oversight of organ transplantation by regulatory agencies is of paramount importance to assure ethical, legal, and clinically robust transplantation practices. Registries reporting activity and outcome data of the donor and recipient, including donor source (living or deceased), must be developed for each transplant and should be a mandatory requirement to achieve accreditation to perform transplant surgeries. Collected data for the living organ donor must include the nationality, the nature of their relationship with the recipient, and the complications encountered by living donors that result in prolonged morbidity or mortality.

Impact of Respiratory-gated 4D PET/CT Scan for Motion Correction in Characterizing Lesions Adjacent to the Diaphragm - A Cross-sectional Study at a Tertiary Care Institute.

Purpose: The blur introduced by breathing motion degrades the diagnostic accuracy of whole-body F-18 fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography-computed tomography (F-FDG PET-CT) in lesions adjacent to the diaphragm by increasing the apparent size and by decreasing their metabolic activity. This study aims to evaluate the efficacy of motion correction by four-dimensional phase-based respiratory-gated (RG) F-FDG PET-CT in improving metabolic parameters of lesions adjacent to the diaphragm (especially in the lungs or liver).

Materials And Methods: Eighteen patients with known lung or liver lesions underwent conventional F-FDG PET-CT and respiratory-gated PET-CT acquisition of the desired region using a pressure-sensing, phase-based respiratory-gating system.

Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICI) have transformed the management of cancer, particularly for older adults, who constitute a majority of the global cancer patient population. This study aimed to assess the inclusion, characteristics, and reporting of older adults enrolled in Food and Drug Administration (FDA) registration clinical trials of ICI between 2018 and 2022. Clinical trials of ICI leading to an FDA approval in solid tumor oncology between 2018 and 2022 were included.

Semen Washing and Intrauterine Insemination for Reducing the Risk of Human Immunodeficiency Virus Transmission in Serodiscordant Couples: A Cross-sectional Study.

Background: Antiretroviral therapy has helped human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-infected people live an enhanced quality of life and attempt for a pregnancy, without placing their partner at risk. Although periconceptional pre-exposure prophylaxis for the uninfected partner and consistent antiretroviral therapy for the HIV-infected partner are important to prevent HIV transmission, semen washing could be a great option to further reduce the semen viral load.

Aim: The aim of this study were as follows: to determine if semen washing with intrauterine insemination provides an added safety net to HIV-serodiscordant couples when the male partner is HIV-infected and virally suppressed and to determine if the U = U concept (undetectable = untransmittable) holds true in virally suppressed HIV-infected males.

The management of edema requires a systematic approach to screening, diagnosis, and treatment, with an essential initial assessment to differentiate between generalized and localized edema. The Association of Physicians of India (API) aimed to develop the first Indian Edema Consensus (Edema India), offering tailored recommendations for screening, diagnosing, and managing edema based on the insights from the expert panel. The panel suggested when evaluating edema symptoms, important factors to consider include the patient's current illness, medical history, risk factors, family history, and medications.

A Histological and Biomechanical Analysis of Human Acellular Dermis (HAD) Created Using a Novel Processing and Preservation Technique.

Background: Large and complex defects requiring reconstruction are challenging for orthopaedic surgeons. The use of human acellular dermal (HAD) matrices to augment large soft tissue defects such as those seen in massive rotator cuff tears, knee extensor mechanism failures and neglected Tendo-Achilles tears has proven to be a valuable tool in surgeons reconstructive armamentarium. Different methods for allograft decellularization and preservation alter the native properties of the scaffold.

International Travel for Organ Transplantation: A Survey of Professional Experiences and Attitudes Toward Data Collection and Reporting.

Background: Lack of data regarding international travel for organ transplantation (ITOT) hampers efforts to evaluate, understand, and respond to trends in ITOT activities, such as those suggestive of organ trafficking or "transplant tourism." This study aimed to assess transplant professionals' experience of ITOT and their attitudes toward reporting ITOT data to a global registry.

Methods: An international cross-sectional anonymous survey of transplant professionals was conducted online (from October to December 2022).
