Global conflicts and humanitarian crises have resulted in an unprecedented number of refugees and migrants. This challenges the limited resources of health care systems and jeopardizes the availability of transplant care for these deserving migrants and refugees. This was the basis for a workshop held during the Congress of the Transplantation Society (Buenos Aires, 2022).

Outcomes of Unilateral Pallidotomy in Focal and Hemidystonia Cases: A Single-Blind Cohort Study.

Background: The role of deep brain stimulation in the treatment of dystonia has been widely documented. However, there is limited literature on the outcome of lesioning surgery in unilateral dystonia.

Objective: We restrospectively reviewed our cases of focal and hemidystonia undergoing unilateral Pallidotomy at our institute to evaluate the short-term and long-term outcome.

The impact of follicular fluid phthalate metabolites on the ovarian reserve and ovarian function in Indian women undergoing intracytoplasmic sperm injection.

Objective: To investigate the adverse effects of phthalate-induced ovarian toxicity on the ovarian reserve and ovarian function. To assess whether the accumulation of higher levels of selected phthalate metabolites in the follicular fluid (FF) of Indian women undergoing intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) was associated with a decline in their antral follicle count (AFC) and/or serum antimüllerian hormone (AMH) levels, suggesting a negative impact on the ovarian reserve. To evaluate the effects of follicular phthalate metabolites on peak serum estradiol (E) levels and the total number of oocytes and mature metaphase II (MII) stage oocytes retrieved to assess the impact of phthalate toxicity on ovarian function.

Oncofertility and Pregnancy in Adolescent and Young Adult Cancers: Physicians' Knowledge and Preferences in India.

Purpose: The treatment outcomes of adolescent and young adult (AYA) cancers have improved with advanced oncology care. Hence, fertility preservation (FP) and post-therapy pregnancies (PTPs) become vital issues.

Materials And Methods: An online survey link with 17 questions regarding oncofertility and PTPs was circulated among oncologists to assess the knowledge, understand the oncofertility care patterns, and seek suggestions to improve oncofertility services.

Expert panel recommendations for topical hemostatic agent use in varied bleeding sites and situations during neuro-spine surgeries.

Intraoperative bleeding poses a substantial challenge, particularly in neuro-spine surgeries leading to complications such as hematomas, infections, and hemodynamic instability. Despite their proven efficacy, use of topical hemostatic agents (THAs) lacks comprehensive published literature and guidelines particularly in the Indian setting. The present study provides the first-ever Indian expert panel recommendations for effective adjunct THA use in different intraoperative bleeding sites and situations in neuro-spine surgeries.

Added Value of Contrast-enhanced US for Evaluation of Female Pelvic Disease.

Since the first application of contrast-enhanced US (CEUS) in the late 1960s, the use of US contrast agents has grown tremendously, and this examination has proved to be a valuable adjunct to diagnostic US for detection and characterization of disease. Also, CEUS has emerged as an excellent option for evaluation of indeterminate lesions that require additional imaging, given its excellent safety profile, including that in patients with end-stage renal disease or allergies to contrast material who are unable to undergo contrast-enhanced CT or MRI. US traditionally has been considered the imaging modality of choice for evaluation of the female pelvis, followed by MRI and rarely fluoroscopy, CT, PET, or angiography.

Genetic counseling for pre-implantation genetic testing of monogenic disorders (PGT-M).

Pre-implantation genetic testing (PGT) is a vital tool in preventing chromosomal aneuploidies and other genetic disorders including those that are monogenic in origin. It is performed on embryos created by intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI). Genetic counseling in the area of assisted reproductive technology (ART) has also evolved along with PGT and is considered an essential and integral part of Reproductive Medicine.

Carbimazole-associated Pancreatitis: Report From Western India.

Pancreatitis is a very rare complication of methimazole and carbimazole therapy. We describe a case of possible carbimazole-associated pancreatitis. A 41-year-old Asian man (with no comorbidities) reported to the hospital with atrial fibrillation and a fast ventricular rate.

A comprehensive approach to rhinoplasty for thick-skinned patients.

Objective: This study aimed to propose a systematic approach for managing thick-skinned rhinoplasty patients.

Methods: A retrospective review of the treatment of 26 thick-skinned patients with aesthetic and/or functional problems over a period of three years from January 2018 to January 2021 with a follow up for one year. A presurgical evaluation of skin was carried out initially.

Solitary fibrous tumor (SFT) of the central nervous system (previously called hemangiopericytoma) is a rare mesenchymal tumor. Malignant SFT has a tendency to recur after surgery and can metastasize to distant organs. Treatment options for metastatic disease are limited.

Unmet Needs in Geriatric Oncology.

Impact of cadaver training for learning abdominal wall reconstruction: our early experience.

Purpose: Assess the utility of a hands-on cadaver workshop for teaching abdominal wall reconstruction (AWR) using components separation technique.

Methods: Over a year, from June 2022 to July 2023, 112 surgeons participated in seven training courses focused on the eTEP technique for inguinal and ventral hernias. The workshops covered theoretical learning sessions followed by hands-on training using frozen human cadavers.

The current status of geriatric oncology in India.

Geriatric oncology in India is relatively new. The number of older persons with cancer is increasing exponentially; at our institution, 34% of patients registered are 60 years and over. Apart from the Tata Memorial Hospital in Mumbai, there are currently no other Indian centers that have a dedicated geriatric oncology unit.
