Introduction: Surgical management of oral cavity carcinoma involves composite resection with reconstruction. Comorbidities increase the risk of perioperative complications. Objective stratification is important for uneventful recovery.

Familial Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease in an Indian Kindred.

It is now known that the inherited prion disease is caused by over 60 different mutations in the Prion protein (PRNP) gene. Four missense mutations at codons 102, 178, 200 and 210, account for over 95% of these cases. In this study we describe, a large Indian family with familial Creutzfeldt Jakob Disease (fCJD).

Explosion of dermoid cyst into five intracranial spaces- a rare event.

Rupture of a dermoid cyst is a rare but well known phenomenon. We present a case of forceful rupture of dermoid cyst into five intracranial spaces which is never been reported before. Timely detection, early intervention and watchful follow-ups can lead to full recovery from such a devastating complication.

Rare case of peristomal pemphigus vulgaris in an operated case of carcinoma of the rectum.

Pemphigus vulgaris (PV), in association with malignancy of the rectum, is a very rare presentation. We present here a case of a 58-year-old woman presenting with atypical skin eruptions in the peristomal area, which gradually progressed to her entire body. These lesions were later diagnosed to be PV.

Triple Diagnosis of Crohn's Disease, Celiac Disease, and Eosinophilic Esophagitis in a Child With Siderius-Hamel Syndrome.

Siderius-Hamel syndrome is a rare condition characterized by intellectual disability and distinct facial features. Crohn's disease-related eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE) has been reported; however, an association between celiac disease and EoE remains controversial. We present a case of a child with Siderius-Hamel syndrome who had characteristic findings of all these conditions-Crohn's disease, celiac disease, and EoE-an occurrence that to our knowledge has not been reported previously.

A Study of Risk Factors of Chronic Venous Insufficiency and its Association with Features Suggestive of Preceding or Present Deep Venous Thrombosis.

Background: Deep venous thrombosis (DVT), even though resolved, may damage the valves and may lead to chronic venous insufficiency (CVI). We designed the present study to examine the thrombotic markers or other ultrasound features in the absence of active thrombosis in patients presenting with features suggestive of CVI.

A comparative study of bilateral subthalamic nucleus DBS in Parkinson's disease in young versus old: A single institutional study.

To compare outcome between young [<65 yrs] and old [>65 yrs] patients of Parkinson's disease who underwent bilateral STN DBS a non-randomized retrospective study was done. 20 young (Young group) and 20 elderly (Old group) patients with matched baseline UPDRS were selected and followed up for 2 years after deep brain stimulation (DBS) surgery. The total and motor UPDRS, before, one year and two years after surgery was compared.

Duodenal atresia with familial apple peel syndrome: case study with review of literature.

This is a case report of a neonate who was antenatally diagnosed with jejunal atresia which turned out to be duodenal atresia with apple peel syndrome. A previous sibling, who also had apple peel but with jejunal atresia, succumbed to sepsis after surgery. The first sibling had jejunal stenosis and had died of sepsis following surgery.

Takatsubo cardiomyopathy (TC) is a relative novel condition that has been increasingly reported. Obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA) is a global health problem of increasing prevalence. Effective treatments are available with continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) therapy and mandibular advancement devices (MAD). However, there is limited long-term adherence to therapy, as CPAP and MAD require permanent usage to avoid recurrence of the symptoms and adverse ill health.

Strengthening the Family - the 'Five-I' Approach.

This article describes the importance of the family in diabetes care. It lists the multiple ways in which the family is related to diabetes: as a cause or culprit of diabetes, as a tool or technique for delivering diabetes care and as a target of diabetes or diabetes-care-related complications. The authors suggest an alliterative 'Five-I' approach to guide diabetes care professionals in addressing needs, and utilising strengths, of the family of a person with diabetes.
