This study proposes the use of the inversion recovery T-weighted turbo field echo (IR-TTFE) sequence for myocardial T mapping and compares the results obtained with those of the modified Look-Locker inversion recovery (MOLLI) method for accuracy, precision, and reproducibility. A phantom containing seven vials with different T values was imaged, thereby comparing the T measurements between the inversion recovery spin-echo (IR-SE) technique, MOLLI, and the IR-TTFE. The accuracy, precision, and reproducibility of the T-mapping sequences were analyzed in a phantom study.

Background And Aims: Cholecystitis can occur after self-expandable metallic stent (SEMS) placement for malignant biliary obstruction (MBO), but the best treatment option for cholecystitis has not been determined. Here, we aimed to identify the risk factors of cholecystitis after SEMS placement and determine the best treatment option.
Methods: Incidence, treatments, and predictive factors of cholecystitis were retrospectively evaluated in 1084 patients with distal MBO (DMBO) and 353 patients with hilar MBO (HMBO) who underwent SEMS placement at 12 institutions from January 2012 to March 2021.

Background: To identify predictive factors associated with successful transition to conversion therapy following combination therapy with atezolizumab and bevacizumab in the treatment of unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC).
Methods: In total, 188 patients with HCC, who received atezolizumab plus bevacizumab combination therapy as the first-line chemotherapy, were studied. Patients who achieved complete response (CR) with systemic chemotherapy alone were excluded.

We experienced a case of multiple endocrine neoplasia type 2A(MEN2A)diagnosed with medullary thyroid carcinoma. The patient was a 50s woman who was referred for a thyroid nodule detected in the right lobe during a carotid ultrasound examination. After undergoing a hemithyroidectomy, it was determined that the tumor was medullary carcinoma.

Background: Secondary pneumothorax, which occurs most commonly in the elderly, is caused by underlying diseases. Cardiac dysfunction and other organ inefficiencies may render surgical repair impossible. Such non-operative and poor-risk cases are targets for pleurodesis, which involves the instillation of chemicals or irritants to the thoracic cavity through injection, bronchoscopic bronchial occlusion, or other procedures.

The relationships between the therapeutic effects of immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) and the intestinal flora have attracted increasing attention. However, the effects of oral probiotics on the efficacies of ICIs used to treat non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) remain unclear. We investigated the effects of probiotics on the efficacies of ICIs in patients treated with and without chemotherapy.

Background: Electronic patient-reported outcomes monitoring (ePROM) is a useful communication tool for patients and healthcare providers in cancer chemotherapy. In this study, we examined the feasibility of our newly developed ePROM system, which we refer to as "Hibilog".
Methods: An ePROM app was developed by extracting 18 items from the Patient-Reported Outcome-Common Terminology Criteria for Adverse Events (PRO-CTCAE).

Purpose: Radiological tumor burden has been reported to be prognostic in many malignancies in the immunotherapy era, yet whether it is prognostic in patients with metastatic urothelial carcinoma (mUC) treated with pembrolizumab remains uninvestigated. We sought to assess the predictive and prognostic value of radiological tumor burden in patients with mUC.
Methods: We performed a retrospective analysis of 308 patients with mUC treated with pembrolizumab.

Background: Antibiotic concentrations 100-1000 times higher than the minimum inhibitory concentration are necessary for eradicating biofilms in periprosthetic joint infections (PJI). Achieving this with intravenous antibiotics is challenging, but continuous local antibiotic perfusion (CLAP) can increase the local concentration of antibiotics. Although there are several reports on CLAP therapy in the fracture-related infection, there are only few reports on its application in PJI.

Background: Epidermal growth factor receptor () mutations, such as exon 19 deletion and exon 21 L858R, are driver oncogenes of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), with EGFR tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) being effective against -mutant NSCLC. However, the efficacy of EGFR-TKIs is transient and eventually leads to acquired resistance. Herein, we focused on the significance of cell cycle factors as a mechanism to attenuate the effect of EGFR-TKIs in -mutant NSCLC before the emergence of acquired resistance.

Although diuretics play an important role in triple-whammy acute kidney injury (AKI), it is unclear whether the type of diuretic influences the risk of triple-whammy AKI. The aim of this study was to evaluate whether vasopressin receptor antagonists affect triple-whammy AKI. This cross-sectional study used disproportionality analysis of VigiBase data to assess the risk of AKI with various diuretics.

Providing standardized, high-quality rehabilitation for critically ill patients is a crucial issue. In 2017, the Japanese Society of Intensive Care Medicine (JSICM) promulgated the "Evidence-Based Expert Consensus for Early Rehabilitation in the Intensive Care Unit" to advocate for the early initiation of rehabilitations in Japanese intensive care settings. Building upon this seminal work, JSICM has recently conducted a rigorous systematic review utilizing the Grading of Recommendations, Assessment, Development, and Evaluation (GRADE) methodology.

Sarcopenia and malnutrition are increasing in older adults and are reported risk factors for functional impairment after hip fracture surgery. This study aimed to investigate the associations between skeletal muscle mass loss, malnutrition, and postoperative walking ability in patients with hip fracture. We retrospectively reviewed patients who underwent intertrochanteric fracture surgery at our institute.

Among various types of cancers, pancreatic cancer is known to be prone to venous thromboembolism (VTE). We investigated the complication rate of VTE and risk factors for deep vein thrombosis (DVT) in patients with pancreatic cancer undergoing chemotherapy. We retrospectively analyzed the data of 51 patients with pancreatic cancer who had undergone chemotherapy at our hospital from January 2016 to March 2021, had their D-dimer levels measured at the initial visit, and had undergone venous ultrasonography if D-dimer levels were elevated.

Background: Adding bevacizumab to first-generation epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR)-tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) prolonged the progression-free survival (PFS), but limited data are available for second-generation EGFR-TKIs. AfaBev-CS is a randomized, phase II trial comparing afatinib plus bevacizumab and afatinib alone as first-line treatment.
Patients And Methods: Untreated patients with non-squamous non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) harboring EGFR mutations (Del19 or L858R) were enrolled and randomly assigned to receive either afatinib (30 mg) plus bevacizumab (AfaBev group) or afatinib (40 mg) monotherapy (Afa group).
