The International Commission on Radiological Protection recommended a significant reduction of the equivalent dose limit for the eye lens. Reportedly, medical staff in charge of diagnostic imaging procedures may exceed the new dose limits for the eye lens. The use of dosimeters dedicated to the eye lens remains low, and dosimeters for the neck region were often used to assess eye lens doses.

Hepatitis B virus (HBV) can be transmitted within a family, but an interspousal transmission in elderly cases is rare and the change of viral quasispecies during the event is unclear. We experienced two acute hepatitis B males (AH1 and AH2, 67 and 71 years old, respectively) whose HBV was transmitted from their wives with chronic HBV infection (CH1 and CH2, 67 and 66 years old, respectively). To clarify the characteristics of HBV quasispecies in such cases, we performed long-read deep sequencing of HBV preS1/preS2/S domain using samples from the 2 couples.

Background And Aims: The impact of hepatitis C virus (HCV) eradication via direct-acting antiviral (DAA) therapy on overall mortality, particularly non-liver-related mortality, is understudied.
Methods: We recruited 4180 patients with chronic HCV infection who achieved sustained virological response (SVR) (HCV eradication) through DAA therapy (n = 2501, SVR group) or who did not receive antiviral therapy (n = 1679, non-SVR group); 1236 from each group were chosen using propensity score matching. Causes of death and all-cause mortality, including non-liver-related diseases, were investigated.

Disturbance of self-organization (DSO) is defined by affective dysregulation, negative self-concept, and disturbances in relationships. Along with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), DSO is a part of complex post-traumatic stress disorder (CPTSD), which often results from childhood trauma and has life-long consequences. We investigated the association between CPTSD, PTSD, DSO, childhood adversity, and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).

Unlabelled: Nintedanib, a multi-intracellular tyrosine kinase inhibitor, reduces progression of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) and has been approved to use in other progressive fibrosing interstitial lung diseases (ILD) recently. However, the factors that affect the discontinuation of treatment due to adverse events is uncertain. The dorsal muscle group area at the T12 vertebral level (T12DMA) assessed on computed tomography (CT) images has been reported to be associated with mortality in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and other diseases.

Posterior dislocation of the shoulder joint is a rare condition. It is often misdiagnosed owing to a lack of evident clinical features compared with anterior shoulder dislocation, and inappropriate radiological examination. We present a case of chronic posterior fracture dislocation treated with greater tuberosity osteotomy.

Certain genetic alterations and right-sided primary tumor location are associated with resistance to anti-epidermal growth factor (EGFR) treatment in metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC). The phase 3 PARADIGM trial (n = 802) demonstrated longer overall survival with first-line anti-EGFR (panitumumab) versus antivascular endothelial growth factor (bevacizumab) plus modified FOLFOX6 in patients with RAS wild-type mCRC with left-sided primary tumors. This prespecified exploratory biomarker analysis of PARADIGM (n = 733) evaluated the association between circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) gene alterations and efficacy outcomes, focusing on a broad panel of gene alterations associated with resistance to EGFR inhibition, including KRAS, NRAS, PTEN and extracellular domain EGFR mutations, HER2 and MET amplifications, and ALK, RET and NTRK1 fusions.

Although chitin in fungal cell walls is associated with allergic airway inflammation, the precise mechanism underlying this association has yet to be elucidated. Here, we investigated the involvement of fungal chitin-binding protein and chitin in allergic airway inflammation. Recombinant Aspergillus fumigatus LdpA (rLdpA) expressed in Pichia pastoris was shown to be an O-linked glycoprotein containing terminal α-mannose residues recognized by the host C-type lectin receptor, Dectin-2.
