Background: Data are limited on patient background characteristics associated with catheter ablation (CA)-related bleeding events in Japanese patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation receiving uninterrupted periprocedural edoxaban. This subanalysis of the KYU-RABLE study focused on univariate and multivariate analyses to identify correlations between bleeding events and baseline patient demographics and CA-related characteristics.
Methods: Patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation (NVAF) enrolled from the KYU-RABLE study were included in the study.
Background: The effects of catheter ablation (CA) energy sources on myocardial injury and coagulation biomarkers among Japanese non-valvular atrial fibrillation patients receiving uninterrupted periprocedural edoxaban are unclear. This KYU-RABLE exploratory subanalysis compared the effects of CA using radiofrequency energy vs. cryoballoon on: (1) myocardial injury; and (2) plasma edoxaban and coagulation biomarker concentrations measured before and after CA.

Background: Lower blood pressure (BP) levels are linked to a slower decline of kidney function in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) without kidney replacement therapy. However, there are limited data on this relation in peritoneal dialysis (PD) patients. Here we evaluated the association of BP levels with the decline of residual kidney function (RKF) in a retrospective cohort study.

In our previous study, we found that inhibition of protein tyrosine phosphatase non-receptor type 3 (PTPN3), which is expressed in lymphocytes, enhances lymphocyte activation, suggesting PTPN3 may act as an immune checkpoint molecule. However, PTPN3 is also expressed in various cancers, and the biological significance of PTPN3 in cancer cells is still not well understood, especially for lung neuroendocrine tumor (NET).Therefore, we analyzed the biological significance of PTPN3 in small cell lung cancer and examined the potential for PTPN3 inhibitory treatment as a cancer treatment approach in lung NET including small cell lung cancer (SCLC) and large cell neuroendocrine cancer (LCNEC).

Importance: The development of Kawasaki disease (KD) has been suggested to be associated with droplet- or contact-transmitted infection; however, its triggers and transmission modes remain to be determined. Under an epidemic of SARS-CoV-2, the COVID-19 state of emergency in Japan served as a nationwide social experiment to investigate the impact of quarantine or isolation on the incidence of KD.
Objective: To assess the role of droplet or contact transmission in the etiopathogenesis of KD.

Background: Catheter ablation (CA) for atrial fibrillation (AF) can be associated with a risk of thromboembolism and bleeding. We recently demonstrated that uninterrupted edoxaban with one dose delayed on the CA procedural day is associated with a low risk of periprocedural complications. Previous reports have indicated that some specific subgroups of patients undergoing CA have an increased risk of bleeding and thromboembolic complications.

Post-transplant lymphoproliferative disorder (PTLD) refers to a group of diseases, characterized by abnormal proliferation of lymphocytes, that develop after organ transplantation. PTLD is associated with poor prognosis, and has become a major problem for transplant patients. In this report, we described a case of malignant lymphoma of the cervix in a bicollis uterus considered to be a PTLD in a patient after renal transplantation.

Adequate hematopoietic progenitor cell collection is critical for autologous peripheral blood stem cell transplantation. Conventionally, patients with multiple myeloma are treated with high-dose cyclophosphamide and granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (G-CSF) or G-CSF alone to mobilize their peripheral blood stem cells. However, some patients exhibit insufficient stem cell recruitment in response to these regimens.

Aim: Reducing the use of physical restraint in intensive care units is challenging, and little is known about the influence of culture on physical restraint use in this setting. The present study aims to verify the hypothesis that mutual support and a culture of blame among staff are associated with higher physical restraint use for mechanically ventilated patients.
Methods: We undertook a survey of nurses in intensive care units caring for mechanically ventilated patients in acute care units.
