This Review Article overviews the literature on diabetes insipidus (DI) associated with pregnancy and labor in Japan published from 1982 to 2019. The total number of patients collected was 361, however, only one-third of these cases had detailed pathophysiologic information enabling us to identify the respective etiology and subtype. Pregnancy-associated DI can be divided into 3 etiologies, central (neurogenic) DI, nephrogenic DI, and excess vasopressinase-associated DI.

Parkinsonism Relat Disord

September 2020

Department of Drug Evaluation & Informatics, Graduate School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, University of Shizuoka, Shizuoka, Japan.

Introduction: We performed a systematic review and Bayesian network meta-analysis to clarify the relative efficacy and safety of pimavanserin compared to atypical antipsychotics for psychosis in Parkinson's disease (PD).

Methods: PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, and Japana Centra Revuo Medicina Web were searched for relevant articles until October 31, 2019. Eligible randomized controlled trials were synthesized for efficacy (Brief Psychiatry Rating Scale [BPRS] and Clinical Global Impression Scale [CGI-S]) and safety (Unified Parkinson's Disease Rating Scale part III [UPDRS-III] and dropouts due to adverse events).

Objectives To investigate the sensitivity and specificity of a temporal artery biopsy (TAB) in the diagnosis of giant cell arteritis (GCA) in a single-center retrospective cohort in Japan. Methods A retrospective chart review was performed on consecutive patients who visited our hospital between April 2009 and October 2018 and underwent a TAB. The sensitivity and specificity were calculated for the three pathological standards for a TAB, predetermined according to the pathological criterion of the 1990 American College of Rheumatology (ACR) criteria: A) vasculitis characterized by predominant mononuclear cell infiltration; B) vasculitis with granulomatous inflammation; and C) vasculitis with multinucleated giant cells.

Although gangliocytic paraganglioma (GP) is considered a rare benign neuroendocrine tumor, cases of mortality have been reported. Occasionally, GP is misdiagnosed as neuroendocrine tumor G1, which is associated with a poorer prognosis than GP. To avoid such misdiagnoses, it is important to understand the clinicopathological characteristics of GP.
