Background: Covert atrial fibrillation (AF) is a major cause of cryptogenic stroke. Coagulopathy alongside micro- and macrovascular thrombotic events were frequent characteristics of patients presenting with acute COVID-19 during the initial stages of the pandemic. However, over the past 4 years, the incidence and manifestations of COVID-19-associated coagulopathy have changed due to immunity from natural infection and vaccination and the appearance of new SARS-CoV-2 variants. Diagnostic criteria and management strategies based on early experience and studies for COVID-19-associated coagulopathy thus require reevaluation.

We have constructed an outer-cylinder-rotating Couette device for high-speed shear flow in laminar flow conditions and visualized the structure formation and subsequent rearrangement of PACl (flocculant made of aluminum hydroxide gel) and kaolinite flocs by visible light imaging. In a previous report, we analyzed the case of relatively low shear rate (-value = 29 1/s) and confirmed that the flocculation process could be separated into two stages: a floc growth stage and a breakup/rearrangement stage. Once the large bulky flocs that reached the maximum size appeared, they rearranged and densified through structural fracture and rearrangement.

Orexin A (OX-A) and orexin B are neuropeptides produced in orexin neurons located in the lateral hypothalamus that exert multiple biological functions through the activation of orexin receptor 1 (OX1R) and orexin receptor 2 (OX2R) throughout the central nervous system. OX1R and OX2R have distinct functions: OX1R is involved in reward seeking, whereas OX2R has a pivotal role in sleep/wake regulation.
