Itaconic acid (IA) is a value-added chemical currently produced by Aspergillus terreus from edible glucose and starch but not from inedible lignocellulosic biomass owing to the high sensitivity to fermentation inhibitors present in the hydrolysate of lignocellulosic biomass. To produce IA from lignocellulosic biomass, a gram-positive bacterium, Corynebacterium glutamicum, with a high tolerance to fermentation inhibitors was metabolically engineered to express a fusion protein composed of cis-aconitate decarboxylase from A. terreus responsible for IA formation from cis-aconitate and a maltose-binding protein (malE) from Escherichia coli.

MicroRNA-146b-5p (miR-146b-5p) is up-regulated during and to suppress the inflammation process, although mechanisms involved in the action of miR-146b-5p have not been fully elucidated. This study examined the anti-inflammation effects of miR-146b-5p in lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-stimulated human dental pulp cells (hDPCs). An increase in human miR-146b-5p (hsa-miR-146b-5p) expression following the mRNA expression of pro-inflammatory cytokines was observed in LPS-stimulated hDPCs.

Surface Pre-Reacted Glass-ionomer (S-PRG) filler, which releases strontium (Sr), borate (BO), fluoride (F), sodium (Na), silicate (SiO), and aluminum (Al) ions at high concentrations, is a unique glass filler that are utilized in dentistry. Because of its multiple-ion releasing characteristics, S-PRG filler exhibits several bioactivities such as tooth strengthening, acid neutralization, promotion of mineralization, inhibition of bacteria and fungi, inhibition of matrix metalloproteinases, and enhancement of cell activity. Therefore, S-PRG filler per se and S-PRG filler-containing materials have the potential to be beneficial for various dental treatments and care.

Kraft pulp (KP), an intermediate product obtained when wood chips are converted to paper, contains highly digestible fiber. This study evaluated the effect of KP inclusion in calf starters on growth performance, health, and plasma glucagon-like peptide 2 (GLP-2) concentration in calves. Twenty-five Holstein heifer calves were raised on a high plane of nutrition program using milk replacer containing 29% crude protein and 18% fat until 49 d after birth, and were fed calf starters containing KP at 0 (CON; n = 14) or 12% (KPS; n = 11) on a dry matter basis.

Background: In-depth knowledge of the cellular and molecular composition of dental pulp (DP) and the crosstalk between DP cells that drive tissue homeostasis are not well understood. To address these questions, we performed a comparative analysis of publicly available single-cell transcriptomes of healthy adult human DP to 5 other reference tissues: peripheral blood mononuclear cells, bone marrow, adipose tissue, lung, and skin.

Results: Our analysis revealed that DP resident cells have a unique gene expression profile when compared to the reference tissues, and that DP fibroblasts are the main cell type contributing to this expression profile.

This study aimed to clarify the effects of strontium (Sr), borate (BO), and silicate (SiO) on cell proliferative capacity, the induction of differentiation into odontoblast-like cells (OLCs), and substrate formation of human dental pulp stem cells (hDPSCs). Sr, BO, and SiO solutions were added to the hDPSC culture medium at three different concentrations, totaling nine experimental groups. Introduction: This study aimed to compare the in vivo accuracy and precision of 3 electronic apex locators (EALs) in determining the position of the major foramen using micro-computed tomographic (micro-CT) technology.

Methods: After access preparation of 23 necrotic or vital teeth from 5 patients, canals were negotiated, and hand files were used to determine the position of the foramen with 3 EALs: Propex Pixi (Dentsply Maillefer, Ballaigues, Switzerland), Woodpex III (Woodpecker Medical Instrument Co, Guilin, China), and Root ZX II (J Morita, Tokyo, Japan). After fixing the silicon stop to the file, teeth were extracted and scanned in a micro-CT device with and without the instrument inserted into the canal.
