BackgroundMpox, caused by monkeypox virus (MPXV), was considered a rare zoonotic disease before May 2022, when a global epidemic of cases in non-endemic countries led to the declaration of a Public Health Emergency of International Concern. Cases of mpox in Ireland, a country without previous mpox reports, could reflect extended local transmission or multiple epidemiological introductions.AimTo elucidate the origins and molecular characteristics of MPXV circulating in Ireland between May 2022 and October 2023.

A 3-year-old male with X-linked lymphoproliferative syndrome type 1 underwent an unrelated umbilical cord blood transplant (UUCBT). The week prior to transplant the patient tested positive for adenovirus (HAdV) with a viral load of <190 copies/mL and was started on cidofovir. UUCBT proceeded as scheduled, and the patient engrafted on day +19.

Background: Dysregulated immune responses to severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection are thought to underlie the progression of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) to severe disease. We sought to determine whether early host immune-related gene expression could predict clinical progression to severe disease.

Methods: We analysed the expression of 579 immunological genes in peripheral blood mononuclear cells taken early after symptom onset using the NanoString nCounter and compared SARS-CoV-2 negative controls with SARS-CoV-2 positive subjects with mild (SARS+ Mild) and Moderate/Severe disease to evaluate disease outcomes.

Pathogenic helper T cells as the novel therapeutic targets for immune-mediated intractable diseases.

Electronic address:

Allergic diseases arise from a complex interplay between immune system and environmental factors. A link between the pathogenesis of allergic diseases and type 2 immune responses has become evident, with conventional and pathogenic type 2 helper T (Th2) cells involved in both. Recently, there has been a significant development in therapeutic agents for allergic diseases: IL-5 and IL-5 receptor antagonists, Janus kinase (JAK) inhibitors, and sublingual immunotherapy (SLIT).

Polyomaviruses (PyVs) are known to infect a diverse range of vertebrate host species. We report the discovery of PyVs in vesper bats (family Vespertilionidae) from sampling in Central Europe. Seven partial VP1 sequences from different PyVs were detected in samples originating from six distinct vesper bat species.

Two novel genotypes of species human mastadenovirus D designated 109 and 110 were isolated from three epidemiologically unrelated cases of acute respiratory disease detected in January 2018 by surveillance efforts at the California/Mexico border. Both genotypes represent examples of intertypic recombination. Genotype D109 is most closely related to genotype D56 (97.

Introduction: Kawasaki disease (KD) is an acute systemic vasculitis that predominantly afflicts children. KD development is known to be associated with an aberrant immune response and abnormal platelet activation, however its etiology is still largely unknown. Myosin light chain 9 (Myl9) is known to regulate cellular contractility of both non-muscle and smooth muscle cells, and can be released from platelets, whereas any relations of Myl9 expression to KD vasculitis have not been examined.

Aim: Development of an unbiased methodology using Oxford Nanopore Technology (ONT) sequencing to obtain whole-genome sequences (WGS) of Rotavirus A (RVA) from clinical samples.

Methods: 157 RVA qRT-PCR positive faecal samples were enriched by virus-like particle (VLP) purification and host nuclease digestion to enhance the detection of viral nucleic acids and cDNA generated as per the NetoVIR protocol. ONT sequencing was then performed using the ONT Native Barcoding kit (SQK-LSK-109) on the GridION platform.
