Objectives: In out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA), prehospital time is crucial and can be divided into response time, from emergency call to emergency medical service (EMS) contact, and time from EMS contact to hospital arrival. To improve prehospital strategies for pediatric OHCA, it is essential to understand the association between these time intervals and patient outcomes; however, detailed investigations are lacking. The current study aimed to examine the association between response time and time from EMS contact to hospital arrival as well as survival and neurological outcomes in pediatric OHCA.

This study explores the influence of charge distribution and molecular shape on the stability of ferroelectric nematic liquid crystalline phases through atomistic simulations of DIO molecules. We demonstrate the role of dipole-dipole interactions and molecular shape in achieving polar ordering by simulating charged and chargeless topologies, and analysing positional and orientational pair-distribution functions. The charged DIO molecules exhibit head-to-tail and side-by-side parallel alignments conducive to long-range polar order, whereas the chargeless molecules show no polar ordering.

catheter-related bloodstream infections (CRBSIs) are an increasing concern in Japanese hospitals. Although their clinical characteristics have been explored, the genetic relationships and virulence profiles of isolates from CRBSIs remain understudied. Here, using advanced genomic techniques, we investigated the genetic diversity, phylogenetic relationships, and virulence profiles of isolates from patients with bloodstream infections.

Background/Aims: To evaluate invasive treatment outcomes for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) in patients aged over 90 years. Materials and methods: Twenty-six patients were included. Information on backgrounds, course of treatment, outcomes, and changes in Child-Pugh (CP) score and performance status (PS), as well as a comparison of treatment-related complications and 2-year survival after treatment, were retrospectively examined and compared with 311 patients aged under 90 years who were matched under the same conditions.

The role of the electron transport chain (ETC) in cell proliferation control beyond its crucial function in supporting ATP generation has recently emerged. In this study, we found that, among the four ETC complexes, the complex I (CI)-mediated NAD regeneration is important for cancer cell proliferation. In cancer cells, a decrease in CI activity by RNA interference (RNAi) against NADH:ubiquinone oxidoreductase core subunit V1 (NDUFV1) arrested the cell cycle at the G/S phase, accompanying upregulation of p21 cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitor expression.

Objective: Type A insulin resistance syndrome (IRS), characterized by impaired insulin receptor function due to variants of the insulin receptor gene, manifests as severe insulin-resistant diabetes. Differentiation of type A IRS from type 2 diabetes on the basis of hyperinsulinemia can be challenging. Given the association between insulin receptor dysfunction and reduced insulin clearance, we evaluated the potential of the circulating C-peptide reactivity (CPR)/immunoreactive insulin (IRI) molar ratio, a marker of insulin clearance, for distinguishing type A IRS from type 2 diabetes.

Background: Speckles tracking echocardiography imaging enables clinicians to detect subtle systolic dysfunction. The aim of the present study was to elucidate the differences in speckle tracking echocardiographic findings between immunoglobulin light chain amyloid cardiomyopathy (AL-CM) and transthyretin amyloid cardiomyopathy (TTR-CM).
Methods: The patients with a confirmed diagnosis of cardiac amyloidosis through cardiac biopsy from March 2013 to October 2022 were included.

In cervical cancer screening, cytology is used as a triage test to refer high-risk human papillomavirus (HR-HPV)-positive women for colposcopy, but its accuracy is inadequate. The present study aimed to demonstrate that the presence of atypical cells with large vacuoles in the cytoplasm of parabasal cells, referred to as vacuolated parabasal cells (VPCs), which are observed in the Pap smears of HPV-positive women, is associated with specific HPV genotypes. Among 2175 patients, 310 with a single HR-HPV infection and cytological diagnosis of high-grade squamous intraepithelial lesions (HSIL) or atypical squamous cells not excluding HSIL (ASC-H) were included, of which 86 were infected with HPV16.

In this study, we explored the chemical modification of toll-like receptor 9 (TLR9) agonist DNA using a highly fluorescent thymine analogue, ThexT, focusing on its structural and photophysical characteristics. ThexT-labelled CpG oligonucleotides effectively demonstrated intracellular localisation within macrophage cell lines. Notably, immunostimulatory activity varied depending on the site of ThexT incorporation within the TLR9 agonist sequence.

Deucravacitinib, an oral tyrosine kinase 2 inhibitor, is effective for psoriasis. However, long-term real-world effectiveness stratified by age and body mass index (BMI) has not been precisely examined. This study aimed to evaluate 52-week real-world effectiveness of deucravacitinib in psoriasis patients, stratified by age (≥65 years vs <65 years) and BMI (≥25 vs <25).

Background: Acute ischemic stroke (AIS) from distal medium vessel occlusion (DMVO) presents unique treatment challenges. Mechanical thrombectomy (MT) is emerging as a viable option for these patients, yet the role of pre-stroke aspirin treatment is unclear. This study evaluates the impact of pre-stroke low-dose aspirin on outcomes in DMVO patients undergoing MT.

To identify patients with infantile hemangioma (IH) in need of early-stage treatment in this multicenter, prospective, observational study, we investigated the potential of plasma cytokines as a clinically useful marker. Plasma samples were collected at three time points from 41 patients with infantile hemangioma: baseline (days 14-60 after delivery), visit 1 (days 61-150, the proliferative phase), and visit 2 (days 151-395, the involuting phase). With a twofold or more increase in tumor volume during the baseline-visit 1 period regarded as progression, progression was seen in 15 cases (36.

This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of psychological interventions compared to standard rehabilitation in patients with knee osteoarthritis (OA). Given the recognized influence of psychological factors in OA management, the review assessed their impact on pain, functional disability, and self-efficacy. A comprehensive search was performed across multiple databases, including PubMed, PsycINFO, CINAHL, the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, Web of Science, OpenGrey, and ClinicalTrials.

Background: Due to its rarity, there are very limited data available on the cause of death (COD) and its association with comorbidities in Japanese chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) patients.
Methods: To investigate the prevalence of comorbidities and their impact on cause-specific mortality, we retrospectively reviewed 121 Japanese patients with CLL.
Results: The median age was 69 years, with 47.
