IgG4-related disease (IgG4-RD) is an immune-mediated disorder characterized by organ enlargement and dysfunction. The formation of tertiary lymphoid tissues (TLTs) in affected organs is crucial for understanding IgG4-RD, as T follicular helper (Tfh) 2 cells within TLTs drive IgG4+B cell differentiation, contributing to mass formation. Key cytokines IL-4 and IL-10, produced by Tfh2 cells, are essential for this process.

Messenger RNA vaccines based on lipid nanoparticles (mRNA-LNPs) are promising vaccine modalities. However, mRNA-LNP vaccines frequently cause adverse reactions such as swelling and fever in humans, partly due to the inflammatory nature of LNP. Modification of the ionizable lipids used in LNPs is one approach to avoid these adverse reactions.

The resistance of colorectal cancer liver metastases (CRLMs) to 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) chemotherapy remains a significant global health challenge. We investigated the phosphoproteomic dynamics of serial tissue sections obtained from initial metastases and recurrent tumors collected from 24 patients to address this unmet need for innovative therapeutic strategies for patients with CRLM with a poor prognosis. Our analysis revealed the activation of PAK kinase in patients with CRLM with a poor prognosis.

This study used optical attenuation coefficient (OAC)-based optical coherence tomography (OCT) en face images to assess the ellipsoid zone (EZ) in the foveal region. This retrospective, observational, cross-sectional study of 41 healthy volunteers and 34 patients with retinal diseases included imaging data acquired using a prototype swept-source OCT system. EZ en face images were generated from OCT raster scan volumes based on OAC, followed by denoising and binarization to quantify the percentage of EZ structural normality or abnormality relative to the total imaging area.

Background: Resident memory T (T) cells and immunosuppressive Foxp3-expressing regulatory T (regT) cells are present in healthy, non-inflamed and inflamed human skin. Both types of cells are found in both the epidermis and dermis with the dermis being much thicker than the epidermis. However, it is unclear if T and regT cells differ between reticular dermal layers in terms of number, function or characteristics.

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to estimate the extent to which the implementation of deep learning reconstruction (DLR) may reduce the risk of radiation-induced cancer from CT examinations, utilizing real-world clinical data.
Methods: We retrospectively analyzed scan data of adult patients who underwent body CT during two periods relative to DLR implementation at our facility: a 12-month pre-DLR phase (n = 5553) using hybrid iterative reconstruction and a 12-month post-DLR phase (n = 5494) with routine CT reconstruction transitioning to DLR. To ensure comparability between two groups, we employed propensity score matching 1:1 based on age, sex, and body mass index.

Sensitization to Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) enterotoxins (SEs) A (SEA) and B (SEB) is associated with the pathogenesis of several chronic airway diseases, including asthma and chronic rhinosinusitis, but its role in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) remains unclear. This cohort study aimed to investigate the impact of sensitization to SEs on total IgE levels, and capsaicin cough reflex sensitivity (C-CS) in COPD.

We conducted a fundamental evaluation of the 3 Screen ICA ELISA kit, which can simultaneously measure three major anti-islet autoantibodies important in diagnosing and predicting type 1 diabetes, to assess its usefulness as a measuring reagent. In autoantibody-positive samples, the coefficient of variation for intra-assay variation ranged from 1.37% to 2.

Chimeric antigen receptor (CAR)-T cell products, classified as Advanced Therapy Medicinal Products (ATMPs), have shown promising outcomes in cancer immunotherapy. The quality of raw and starting materials used in manufacturing is critical to ensure the efficacy and safety of CAR-T cell products and depends primarily on the selection of the right materials and the right suppliers. It is essential to consider a long-term strategy when selecting raw and starting materials to prevent delays in the supply of innovative, high-quality, and safe therapies to patients.

Cells utilize ubiquitin as a posttranslational protein modifier to convey various signals such as proteasomal degradation. The dysfunction of ubiquitylation or following proteasomal degradation can give rise to the accumulation and aggregation of improperly ubiquitylated proteins, which is known to be a general causation of many neurodegenerative diseases. Thus, the characterization of substrate peptide sequences of E3 ligases is crucial in biological and pharmaceutical sciences.

In recent years, degenerative meniscal lesions have received increasing attention as an etiologic factor of knee osteoarthritis. Among various relevant factors, medial meniscal extrusion has been shown to be an independent predictor of the onset and progression of knee osteoarthritis. Therefore, surgical reduction of the extruded medial meniscus to restore meniscal function is key to preventing osteoarthritis of the knee.

We demonstrate long-range enhancement of fluorescence and Raman scattering using a dense random array of Ag nanoislands (AgNIs) coated with column-structured silica (CSS) overlayer of over 100 nm thickness, namely, remote plasmonic-like enhancement (RPE). The CSS layer provides physical and chemical protection, reducing the impact between analyte molecules and metal nanostructures. RPE plates are fabricated with high productivity using sputtering and chemical immersion in gold(I)/halide solution.
