Epigenetic mechanisms, including DNA methylation, histone modifications, and Noncoding RNAs, play a critical role in enabling plants to adapt to environmental changes without altering their DNA sequence. These processes dynamically regulate gene expression in response to diverse stressors, making them essential for plant resilience under changing global conditions. This review synthesises research on tropical and subtropical plants-species naturally exposed to extreme temperatures, salinity, drought, and other stressors-while drawing parallels with similar mechanisms observed in arid and temperate ecosystems.

People with social anxiety disorder tend to interpret ambiguous social information in a negative rather than positive manner. Such interpretation biases may cause and maintain anxiety symptoms. However, there is considerable variability in the observed effects across studies, with some not finding a relationship between interpretation biases and social anxiety.

Accuracies of measuring the artifact index (AI), a quantitative artifact evaluation index in X-ray CT images, were investigated. The AI is calculated based not only on the standard deviation (SD) of the artifact area in the image, but also on the SD of noise components for considering the noise influence. However, conventional measurement methods may not follow this consideration, for example the non-uniformity of the noise distribution is not taken into account, resulting in reducing the accuracy of AI.

Aims/introduction: This study examined the effects of high-intensity interval walking training (IWT) compared to moderate-intensity continuous walking training (CWT) on muscle strength, walking ability, and health-related quality of life (QOL) in people with diabetes accompanied by lower extremity weakness.
Materials And Methods: People with diabetes accompanied by low isometric knee extensor strength using a simple manual dynamometer (n = 50) were screened and randomly divided into 2 groups: CWT (n = 25) and IWT (n = 25). Both groups were instructed by a physical therapist to perform walking training with the goal of 120 min/week over a 5-month period.

Follicular dendritic cell-secreted protein (FDC-SP) is produced by follicular dendritic cells, periodontal ligament and junctional epithelium (JE). JE exists immediately apical to the bottom of the pocket and binds enamel with hemidesmosomes to protect the periodontium from bacterial infection. To analyze the transcriptional regulation of the FDC-SP gene by interleukin-6 (IL-6), we performed real-time PCR, Western blotting, immunofluorescence, luciferase (LUC) assays, gel mobility shift and chromatin immunoprecipitation (ChIP) assays using Ca9-22 and Sa3 gingival epithelial cells.

Background: Limited data exist on the impact of polyvascular disease (PolyVD) on clinical outcomes in female patients undergoing transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR). We therefore sought to investigate clinical outcomes in women with versus without PolyVD undergoing TAVR.
Methods: Female participants from the multicentre Women's International Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation (WIN-TAVI) registry were categorized based on the presence or absence of PolyVD.

Introduction: Stair ascent and descent are physically demanding tasks requiring higher functional ability of the lower extremity muscles and joint range of motion than level walking, and are associated with patient satisfaction after total knee arthroplasty (TKA). This study aimed to investigate stair ascent and descent ability after cruciate-retaining (CR)-TKA using the patient-reported outcomes, and to examine the role of knee sagittal stability and handgrip strength in postoperative stair ascent and descent ability.
Materials And Methods: This study included 84 female patients who underwent primary unilateral CR-TKA for knee osteoarthritis at our institute between April 2015 and February 2019.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a prevalent neurodegenerative disorder characterized by memory decline and cognitive impairments. The clinical treatments for AD have numerous adverse effects, hence the exploration of natural products for AD therapy is of significant importance. Protocatechuic acid (PA), a natural phenolic acid, has been shown to possess various pharmacological activities, including anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and antitumor effects.

For bidirectional replication in E. coli, higher-order complexes are formed at the replication origin oriC by the initiator protein DnaA, which locally unwinds the left edge of oriC to promote the loading of two molecules of DnaB onto the unwound region via dynamic interactions with the helicase-loader DnaC and the oriC-bound DnaA complex. One of the two helicases must translocate rightwards through oriC-bound DnaA complex.

Objectives: It has been suggested that the emergence of ceftriaxone-resistant strains of Neisseria gonorrhoeae involves the incorporation of the penA gene from commensal Neisseria spp. that are resistant to ceftriaxone. However, the mechanism of this mosaic penA generation is unknown.

Intramolecular aromatic oxidative coupling of 3,6-bis(m-terphenyl-2'-yl)carbazole provided a bis(m-terphenyl)-fused carbazole, while that of 3,6-bis(m-terphenyl-2'-yl)-1,8-diphenylcarbazole afforded a bis(quaterphenyl)-fused carbazole. Borylation of the latter furnished a B,N-embedded helical nanographene binding a fluoride anion via a structural change from the three-coordinate boron to the four-coordinate boron. The anionic charge derived from the fluoride anion is stabilized over the expanded p-framework, which leads to the high binding constant (Ka) of 1 × 105 M-1.

Cyclin-dependent kinases (CDKs) are key regulators of cell cycle progression, in conjunction with cyclins. The cyclin-CDK system is highly conserved among eukaryotes, and CDK1 is considered essential for progression through the M phase. However, the extent to which cell cycle progression depends on CDK1 varies between cell types.

"Liquid gold" has been traditionally used for over a century to decorate ceramicware, but its chemical composition has not been thoroughly investigated. One of the keys to successfully characterizing liquid gold, which is a complex mixture, is to distinguish Au-containing products from other chemicals. In this paper, we propose a separation based on the difference in collision cross section, of which chemicals with heavy atoms are relatively smaller than those without in ion mobility-mass spectrometry (IM-MS).

Background: While R-CHOP has been one of the standard therapies for untreated high-tumor-burden (HTB) follicular lymphoma (FL) for over 2 decades, obinutuzumab plus bendamustine (OB) is also currently regarded as the standard of care since its approval in 2018 in Japan; however, the long-term efficacy and safety of OB in the daily clinical practice has not been thoroughly evaluated.
Methods: We conducted a multicenter retrospective study for the clinical outcome of 53 patients with HTB FL treated by OB as the frontline therapy between 2018 and 2021 in the Kyoto Hematology Clinical Study Group (KOTOSG). All patients had at least 2-year follow-up period.
