A Parallel Image Denoising Network Based on Nonparametric Attention and Multiscale Feature Fusion.

Sensors (Basel)

January 2025

School of Electronic and Information Engineering, Ankang University, Ankang 725000, China.

Convolutional neural networks have achieved excellent results in image denoising; however, there are still some problems: (1) The majority of single-branch models cannot fully exploit the image features and often suffer from the loss of information. (2) Most of the deep CNNs have inadequate edge feature extraction and saturated performance problems. To solve these problems, this paper proposes a two-branch convolutional image denoising network based on nonparametric attention and multiscale feature fusion, aiming to improve the denoising performance while better recovering the image edge and texture information.

Applying MLP-Mixer and gMLP to Human Activity Recognition.

Sensors (Basel)

January 2025

Graduate School of National Science and Technology, Kanazawa University, Kanazawa 920-1192, Japan.

The development of deep learning has led to the proposal of various models for human activity recognition (HAR). Convolutional neural networks (CNNs), initially proposed for computer vision tasks, are examples of models applied to sensor data. Recently, high-performing models based on Transformers and multi-layer perceptrons (MLPs) have also been proposed.

After open-wedge high tibial osteotomy (OWHTO), the patella is displaced distally, causing patellofemoral joint degeneration. The objective of this study was to ascertain whether the combination of OWHTO and lateral retinacular release (LRR) can prevent articular cartilage degeneration of the patellofemoral joint using magnetic resonance imaging T2 mapping. This study included 37 patients (37 knees) who underwent OWHTO alone (OWHTO group) and 37 patients (37 knees) who underwent OWHTO with LRR (OWHTO + LRR group) with a correction angle of <10° for varus knee osteoarthritis.

Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is an immune-mediated disease characterized by polyarthritis that affects the small joints of the bilateral upper and lower extremities. RA shares several common clinical symptoms with Sjögren's syndrome (SS), another rheumatic disease caused by the lymphocytic infiltration of exocrine glands, with dry eye and dry mouth being the two most common symptoms. Anti-Ro/SS-A antibodies, a diagnostic biomarker of SS, are positive in patients with RA at a certain rate.

Trigeminal neuralgia (TN) is an excruciating neurological disorder characterized by intense, stimulus-induced, and transient facial stabbing pain. The classification of TN has changed as a result of new discoveries in the last decade regarding its symptomatology, pathogenesis, and management. Because different types of facial pain have different clinical therapy and neuroimaging interpretations, a precise diagnosis is essential.

Effect of Monosodium Urate Crystal Deposition on Atherosclerotic Carotid Plaques.

J Clin Med

January 2025

Departments of Neurosurgery, Graduate School of Medicine and Pharmaceutical Sciences, University of Toyama, 2630 Sugitani, Toyama 930-0194, Japan.

The accumulation of uric acid in arteriosclerotic plaques has recently attracted attention. Because the interaction between hyperuricemia and atherosclerosis is complex, the details remain obscure. We aimed to elucidate the clinical effect of monosodium urate monohydrate (MSU) deposition on carotid plaques.

The Beck Depression Inventory-II (BDI-II) is a widely used patient-reported outcome (PRO) tool designed to screen for depressive symptoms and assess their severity. In recent years, with advancements in digital technology, the BDI-II has been adapted for use as an electronic PRO (ePRO) tool. However, to the best of our knowledge, the reliability of the smartphone version of the BDI-II has not been thoroughly investigated.

Unrelated bone marrow transplantation (BMT) is a curative treatment for hematological malignancies. While HLA mismatch is a recognized risk factor in unrelated BMT, the significance of non-HLA single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) remains uncertain. Cytokines play key roles in several aspects of unrelated BMT.

This study aimed to examine the impact of early postoperative physical therapy combined with an educational program on wound recurrence and quality of life in patients with foot ulcers. Forty-eight postoperative patients with diabetic foot ulcers were randomly assigned to either an intervention group, which received both physical therapy and an educational program ( = 25), or a control group, which received physical therapy only ( = 23). Each intervention was initiated on the day after surgery in both groups.

This study aimed to examine the natural progression of the cranial shape from the end of helmet therapy for deformational plagiocephaly to 1 year of age. This study included infants with moderate to severe deformational plagiocephaly who began treatment at our department between December 2022 and July 2023. The cranial shape was assessed using a 3D scanner (VECTRAH2) at the start of treatment, end of treatment, and 12 months of age.

: Dizziness and vertigo are reported in about half of patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), including Crohn's disease (CD) and ulcerative colitis (UC). Orthostatic dysregulation (OD) is recognized as one of the comorbidities that causes dizziness or vertigo with IBD. Our hospital is affiliated with the Inflammatory Bowel Disease Center, which specializes in diagnosing and treating IBD, so cases with dizziness or vertigo symptoms associated with IBD are sometimes referred to our department, a type of department which is rare in other facilities.

High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE) and Low-Density Polyethylene (LDPE) films were used to create nanoplastic (NP) models, with the shape of delamination occurring during degradation. In the case of HDPE, selective degradation occurred not only in the amorphous part, but also in the crystalline part at the same time. Some of the lamellae that extend radially to form the spherulite structure were missing during the 30-day degradation.
