Organization of the chromosomal passenger complex clusters at inner centromeres in mitosis.

Curr Opin Cell Biol

January 2025

Division of Experimental Pathology, Cancer Institute of the Japanese Foundation for Cancer Research (JFCR), Tokyo, Japan; Department of JFCR Cancer Biology, Institute of Science Tokyo, Tokyo, Japan. Electronic address:

Stable transmission of the genome during cell division is crucial for all life forms and is universally achieved by Aurora B-mediated error correction of the kinetochore-microtubule attachments. Aurora B is the enzymatic subunit of the tetrameric protein complex called the chromosomal passenger complex (CPC), and its centromeric enrichment is required for Aurora B to ensure accurate chromosome segregation. How cells enrich the CPC at centromeres is therefore an outstanding question to be elucidated.

Assessment of residential renewable energy investment under dynamic market environment: Aspect from household benefits.

J Environ Manage

January 2025

Graduate School of Media and Governance, Keio University, 5322 Endo, Fujisawa City, Kanagawa Prefecture, 252-0882, Japan. Electronic address:

The adoption of residential renewable energy is pivotal for achieving the 'Net Zero' goal, yet financial assessments of household investments in this area remain complex due to dynamic market conditions. This study introduces a novel closed-form financial valuation framework for residential solar photovoltaic (PV) systems, explicitly addressing the uncertainties of electricity market price fluctuations (market risk) and energy policy changes (policy risk) using Geometric Brownian Motion (GBM). A case study in France demonstrates the framework's application, revealing that the discount rate is the most influential factor in solar PV valuation, followed by system lifespan and policy-driven Feed-in Tariff (FiT) rates.

This case report describes a complex full-step asymmetrical Class II division 1 high-angle in an adult patient treated by extraction of compromised first molars with a preadjusted lingual appliance. Since the patient presented severe sagittal and vertical discrepancies combined with an Izard orthofrontal profile with upper lip protrusion, an extraction camouflage was performed with the twofold aim of obtaining ideal occlusal relationship and profile improvement, correcting occlusal plane cant by selective intrusion with interradicular miniscrews. Appropriate biomechanical strategies, including extraction choice and anchorage control during space closure, were needed to achieve the planned results.

Quantitative analysis of particle behavior constituting multiple coherent structures in liquid bridges.

J Colloid Interface Sci

January 2025

Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, Faculty of Science and Technology, Tokyo University of Science, 2641 Yamazaki, Noda, 278-8510, Chiba, Japan. Electronic address:

Hypothesis: Coherent structures by low-Stokes-number particles are induced within a closed flow, in which ordered flow regions known as Kolmogorov-Arnold-Moser (KAM) tori emerge. A variety of structures with different spatial characteristics has been predicted by varying the Stokes number, whereas the coexistence of structures in flow suspending various types of particles has not been hitherto demonstrated.

Experiments: Half-zone liquid bridges of O () are prepared as a closed system to induce thermocapillary-driven time-dependent flow under normal gravity conditions.

Research Center for Advanced Science and Technology, The University of Tokyo, 4-6-1 Komaba, Meguro-ku, 153-8904, Tokyo, Japan; Institute of Industrial Science, The University of Tokyo, 4-6-1 Komaba, Meguro-ku, 153-8505, Tokyo, Japan. Electronic address:

Phase separation, a fundamental phenomenon in both natural and industrial settings, involves the coarsening of domains over time t to reduce interfacial energy. While well-understood for simple viscous liquid mixtures, the physical laws governing coarsening dynamics in complex fluids, such as colloidal suspensions, remain unclear. Here, we investigate colloidal phase separation through particle-based simulations with and without hydrodynamic interactions (HIs).

Sporadic early miscarriages occur primarily due to embryonic aneuploidy. There is no evidence showing that stress is a direct cause of miscarriage. Yet, despite this, a national US survey and a Japanese survey found that many people mistakenly attributed miscarriage to the mental state or behavior of the women.

Background: Impairment of the visceral pleura following thoracic surgery often leads to air leaks and intrathoracic adhesions. For preventing such complications, mesothelial cell proliferation at the pleural defects can be effective. To develop new materials for pleural defects restoration, we constructed a hybrid artificial pleural tissue (H-APLT) combining polyglycolic acid (PGA) nanofiber sheets with a three-dimensional culture of mesothelial cells and fibroblasts and evaluated its therapeutic efficacy in a rat pleural defect model.

Unlabelled: The concept of genome-microbiome interactions, in which the microenvironment determined by host genetic polymorphisms regulates the local microbiota, is important in the pathogenesis of human disease. In otolaryngology, the resident bacterial microbiota is reportedly altered in non-infectious ear diseases, such as otitis media pearls and exudative otitis media. We hypothesized that a single-nucleotide polymorphism in the ATP-binding cassette sub-family C member 11 () gene, which determines earwax properties, regulates the ear canal microbiota.

Synthesis of Nonplanar Push-Pull Chromophores with Various Heterocyclic Moieties via [2 + 2] Cycloaddition-Retroelectrocyclization Reaction.

J Org Chem

January 2025

Department of Materials Science and Engineering, Institute of Science Tokyo, 2-12-1 Ookayama, Meguro-ku, Tokyo 152-8552, Japan.

A series of 1,1,4,4-tetracyanobuta-1,3-diene (TCBD) derivatives with various heterocyclic moieties, including pyridine, carbazole, indole, and benzothiadiazole, was newly synthesized through a [2 + 2] cycloaddition-retroelectrocyclization reaction. Symmetric electron-rich 1,3-butadiynes with end-capped heterocyclic substituents were reacted with tetracyanoethylene (TCNE), yielding the target TCBD products in 60-80% yields under ambient or mild heating conditions. The thermal stability and optical and electrochemical properties of both 1,3-butadiyne precursors and the corresponding TCBD derivatives were investigated by using thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), UV-vis spectroscopy, and cyclic voltammetry (CV).

Paddlewheel-type and half-paddlewheel-type diruthenium(II,II) complexes with 1,8-naphthyridine-2-carboxylate.

Dalton Trans

January 2025

Department of Chemistry, Graduate School of Natural Science and Technology, Shimane University, 1060, Nishikawatsu, Matsue, Shimane, 690-8504, Japan.

Paddlewheel-type diruthenium(II,II) complexes are paramagnetic with two unpaired electrons ( = 1) and can be utilized as versatile building blocks for higher-order structures, such as supramolecular complexes, coordination polymers, and metal-organic frameworks, although they are generally highly air-sensitive. In this study, we developed an air-stable paddlewheel-type diruthenium(II,II) complex with two electron-withdrawing 1,8-naphthyridine-2-carboxylate (npc) ligands, [Ru(μ-npc)(OCMe)] (1). The two acetate ligands in 1 can be replaced by other carboxylate ligands; the solvothermal reactions of 1 with benzoic acid (HOCPh) yields the heteroleptic [Ru(μ-npc)(OCPh)] (2), whereas its reaction with 1,8-naphthyridine-2-carboxylic acid (Hnpc) produces the homoleptic [Ru(μ-npc)(η-npc)] (3).
