Objective: We evaluated the accuracy of oncologists' estimates of expected survival time in recurrent ovarian cancer.
Methods: Oncologists estimated expected survival time at baseline for each patient, who were then followed up for survival time. We hypothesized that oncologists' estimates of expected survival time would be independently significant predictors of survival, unbiased (approximately equal proportions [50%] living longer versus shorter than their expected survival time), or imprecise (<30% within 0.

The reactivity between sulfonimidamide-derived imines and cyclic anhydrides has been investigated. Sulfonimidamide imines readily react with homophthalic anhydride under mild conditions in the presence of non-nucleophilic bases to yield complex lactam products with high diastereoselectivity. Furthermore, it was discovered that sulfonimidamide imines react with homophthalic anhydride in the absence of a base to yield distinct diastereomer products with high diastereoselectivity.

The mammalian mitochondrial protein synthesis system produces 13 essential subunits of oxidative phosphorylation (OXPHOS) complexes. Translation initiation in mammalian mitochondria is characterized by the use of leaderless messenger RNAs (mRNAs) and non-AUG start codons, where the proofreading function of IF-3mt still remains elusive. Here, we developed a reconstituted mammalian mitochondrial translation system using in vitro transcribed and native mitochondrial transfer RNAs (tRNAs) to investigate IF-3mt's proofreading function.

Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of a drug-coated balloon (DCB) for the treatment of dysfunctional arteriovenous fistulas (AVFs) and to identify the risk factors associated with early and late losses of primary patency following DCB in real-world practice.
Methods: This multicenter, retrospective study included 407 patients (72 ± 11 years, 64.1% males) with dysfunctional AVFs (juxta-anastomotic lesion location in 58.

Background: Acute kidney injury (AKI) is a well-known complication of critical illnesses, significantly affecting morbidity and the risk of death. Diuretics are widely used to ameliorate excess fluid accumulation and oliguria associated with AKI. Their popularity stems from their ability to reduce the energy demands of renal tubular cells by inhibiting transporters and flushing out intratubular casts.

Background: Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is a major global health concern. One of the most important causes of AMR is the excessive and inappropriate use of antimicrobial drugs in healthcare and community settings. Most countries have policies that require antimicrobial drugs to be obtained from a pharmacy by prescription.

A process technology was developed for transferring strained graphene sheets using an elastomer nanosheet to enhance the resonance characteristics of a graphene resonator. The strain-induced graphene resonator demonstrated a 1.80-fold improvement in the product of resonant frequency and -factor compared to the unstrained resonator.

Background: There are little available data about the impact of geriatric nutritional risk index (GNRI) on clinical outcomes following endovascular therapy (EVT) in chronic limb-threatening ischemia (CLTI) regarding the severities of renal dysfunction (RD).
Aims: The aim of this study is to evaluate the impact of GNRI on clinical outcomes following EVT in CLTI regarding the severities of RD.
Methods: We enrolled 705 consecutive CLTI cases treated with EVT between January 2010 and December 2019 at our hospital.

Background: In this study, we present an in-depth analysis of the Eurasian minnow (Phoxinus phoxinus) genome, highlighting its genetic diversity, structural variations, and evolutionary adaptations. We generated an annotated haplotype-phased, chromosome-level genome assembly (2n = 50) by integrating high-fidelity (HiFi) long reads and chromosome conformation capture data (Hi-C).
Results: We achieved a haploid size of 940 megabase pairs (Mbp) for haplome 1 and 929 Mbp for haplome 2 with high scaffold N50 values of 36.

Thiophene and pyrrole units are extensively utilized in light-responsive materials and have significantly advanced the field of organic photovoltaics (OPV). This progress has inspired our exploration of photosensitizers (PS) for photodynamic therapy (PDT). Currently, traditional PS face limitations in clinical application, including a restricted variety and narrow applicability.

Introduction: Preventing depression among nurses is a critical issue from the perspective of occupational welfare, but associations between depressive symptoms in nurses and stress-coping strategies remain unclear.
Methods: In the present study, an epidemiological study was conducted based on a cross-sectional questionnaire survey. Data obtained from 2,534 female nurses working at three general hospitals in Tokyo, Japan, were analyzed.

Human herpesvirus 6B (HHV-6B) belongs to the genus of the betaherpesvirus subfamily, causing exanthema subitum and encephalitis. Although viral ribonucleotide reductase (RNR) is conserved in betaherpesviruses, it has lost its enzymatic activity. Human cytomegalovirus (HCMV) belongs to the other betaherpesvirus genus, ; its RNR inhibits nuclear factor-kappa B (NF-κB) signaling via interaction with the adaptor molecule RIPK1.

Unlabelled: Engineered three-dimensional (3D) tissue culture platforms are useful for reproducing and elucidating complex in vivo biological phenomena. Spheroids, 3D aggregates of living cells, are produced based on physicochemical or microfabrication technologies and are commonly used even in cancer pathology research. However, conventional methods have difficulties in constructing 3D structures depending on the cell types, and require specialized techniques/lab know-how to reproducibly control the spheroid size and shape.

Several decades have passed since the description of the first patient with primary aldosteronism (PA). PA was initially classified in two main forms: aldosterone-producing adenoma (APA) and idiopathic hyperaldosteronism (IHA). However, the pathogenesis of PA has now been shown to be far more complex.

Intramural pregnancy (IMP) is an extremely rare form of ectopic pregnancy (EP), typically associated with previous uterine trauma, adenomyosis, or assisted reproductive technology (ART), such as embryo transfer (ET). Despite its potentially life-threatening nature, the absence of definitive preoperative diagnostic criteria for IMP complicates its early detection and management, especially in patients without known risk factors. Additionally, management becomes more challenging when there is an elevated risk of hemorrhage.
