Oral diseases, both acute and chronic, of infectious or non-infectious etiology, represent some of the most serious medical problems in dentistry. Data from the literature increasingly indicate that changes in the oral microbiome, and therefore, the overgrowing of pathological microflora, lead to a variety of oral-localized medical conditions such as caries, gingivitis, and periodontitis. In recent years, compelling research has been devoted to the use of natural antimicrobial peptides as therapeutic agents in the possible treatment of oral diseases.

Despite significant progress in the field of clinical oncology in terms of diagnostic and treatment methods, the results of anticancer therapy are still not fully satisfactory, especially due to limited response and high toxicity. This has forced the need for further research to finding alternative ways to improve success rates in oncological treatment. A good solution to this problem in the context of rapidly obtaining an effective drug that works on multiple levels of cancer and is also safe is the global strategy of repurposing an existing drug.

The treatment of multiple sclerosis (MS) has undergone significant changes since the first disease-modifying therapy (DMT) drug was introduced. Currently, 19 original DMT drugs are registered in the European Union. The choice of optimal therapy is becoming increasingly challenging in the absence of reliable biomarkers on the basis of which disease progression and prognosis can be determined.

The article addresses stress formation in the structural 3D-printed elements of a high-pressure die casting die mould used for production of aluminum castings. The 3D-printed elements with conformal cooling are manufactured of 18Ni300 powder. Initial numerical calculations were performed on a test die mould made of standard steel X40CrMoV5 to determine temperature distribution and stress state, providing a baseline for comparing 3D-printed 18Ni300 parts.

The common iliac arteries (CIA) are the main finals branches of the abdominal aorta. The aim of the present meta-analysis was to demonstrate the most up-to-date and evidence-based data regarding the general anatomy of the CIAs, including their length, take-off angles, and diameters. PubMed, Scopus, Embase, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, and Google Scholar were searched to find all studies considering the anatomy of the CIA.

Indoor farming systems enable plant production in precisely controlled environments. However, implementing stable growth conditions and the absence of stress stimulants can weaken plants' defense responses and limit the accumulation of bioactive, health-beneficial phytochemicals. A potential solution is the controlled application of stressors, such as supplemental ultraviolet (UV) light.

Lung squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) is one of the major subtypes of lung cancer, characterized by diverse molecular pathways and variable clinical outcomes. This study focused on assessing the levels of TLR-2, TLR-3, TLR-4, TLR-7, TLR-8, and TLR-9 on peripheral blood lymphocytes in patients with newly diagnosed SCC compared to a group of healthy controls, in the context of disease development and patient survival, conducted over three years. The study aimed to investigate the differences in TLR expression between SCC patients and healthy people and to understand their role in the development of the disease and patient survival over three years.

Preservation of the breath sample integrity during storage and transport is one of the biggest challenges in off-line exhaled breath gas analysis. In this context, adsorbent tubes are frequently used as storage containers for use with analytical methods employing gas chromatography with mass spectrometric detection. The key objective of this short communication is to provide data on the recovery of selected breath volatiles from TenaxTA adsorbent tubes that were stored at -80 °C for up to 90 d.

This paper presents a new type of hydraulic clutch operating by means of magnetorheological (MR) fluids and the results achieved from both theoretical analysis and experimental measurement. A hydraulic clutch system with MR working fluid and a rotating magnetic field located was designed. The clutch was based on the principle of using a rotating magnetic field created by an alternating current electromagnet to set the MR fluid in motion.

(1) Non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) represents a significant global health challenge, contributing to numerous cancer deaths. Despite advances in diagnostics and therapy, identifying reliable biomarkers for prognosis and therapeutic stratification remains difficult. Toll-like receptors (TLRs), crucial for innate immunity, now show potential as contributors to cancer development and progression.

Throughout the past decades ultrasonography did not prove to be a procedure of choice if regarded as part of the routine bedside examination. The reason was the assumption defining the lungs and the bone structures as impenetrable by ultrasound. Only during the recent several years has the approach to the use of such tool in clinical daily routines changed dramatically to offer so-called point-of-care ultrasonography (POCUS).

A properly functioning peritoneal catheter is an essential element of effective peritoneal dialysis (PD). Currently, there are three techniques available for PD catheter placement, which include open surgery, laparoscopic surgery, and percutaneous catheter placement (PCP). Currently, no particular catheter placement approach has been proven with certainty to provide superior outcomes.

In the breath research community's search for volatile organic compounds that can act as non-invasive biomarkers for various diseases, hundreds of endogenous volatiles have been discovered. Whilst these systemic chemicals result from normal and abnormal metabolic activities or pathological disorders, to date very few are of any use for the development of clinical breath tests that could be used for disease diagnosis or to monitor therapeutic treatments. The reasons for this lack of application are manifold and complex, and these complications either limit or ultimately inhibit the analytical application of endogenous volatiles for use in the medical sciences.

Only some of the nutrients consumed with food are able to be absorbed from the gastrointestinal (GI) tract and enter the systemic circulation (blood). Because some elements are essential minerals for humans, their beneficial effect on the body depends significantly on their bioavailable amount (the fraction that can be absorbed and used by the organism). The term bioavailability, which is very often used to describe the part of nutrients that is able to be absorbed, is influenced by various factors of exogenous and endogenous origin.

Non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is one of the most frequently diagnosed diseases among all types of lung cancer. Infectious diseases contribute to morbidity and mortality by delaying appropriate anti-cancer therapy in patients with NSCLC. The study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of vaccination with the 13-valent pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (PCV13) in 288 newly diagnosed NSCLC patients.
