This paper presents an assessment of the possibility of using digital image classifiers for tomographic images concerning ductile iron castings. The results of this work can help the development of an efficient system suggestion allowing for decision making regarding the qualitative assessment of the casting process parameters. Special attention should be focused on the fact that automatic classification in the case of ductile iron castings is difficult to perform.

Introduction: Intrathoracic negative pressure therapy is an adjunct to standard methods of complex empyema management in debilitated patients. Nevertheless, the use of endoscopic one-way endobronchial valves to successfully close large bronchopleural fistulas in patients with advanced pleural empyema has been described in only a few case reports.

Aim: To present our experience in managing complex pleural empyema using thoracostomy with intrathoracic negative pressure therapy and/or endobronchial valve implantation.

Introduction: The term "dyspepsia" comes from the Greek words "dys' and 'peptin", which maen "ill digestion" or indigestion, although this set of symptoms in the adult clinic has little to do with the digestion or absorption process, and refers more to ailments related to the upper section of the gastrointestinal tract.

Aim: Assessment of the frequency of functional dyspepsia diagnosis, the characteristics of the group and an attempt to identify the accompanying symptoms, assessment of histological lesions and an attempt to answer question about the efficiency of anti-secretory and eradication therapy.

Material And Methods: The study involved patients reporting for gastrofiberscopic examination due to dyspeptic ailments.

Department of Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology, Central Clinical Hospital of Ministry of Home Affairs, Warsaw, Poland ; Faculty of Health Studies, Jan Kochanowski University of Humanities and Sciences, Kielce, Poland.

In recent years the use of faecal and serologic biomarkers has been evaluated in the diagnosis and management of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Faecal calprotectin (FC) has been proposed as a surrogate marker for intestinal inflammation; elevated concentrations in IBD patients have been confirmed in numerous studies. Already available rapid calprotectin tests help to differentiate between IBD and irritable bowel syndrome.

September 2010

Independent Department of Environmental Protection, The Jan Kochanowski University of Humanities and Sciences, 25-406 Kielce, Poland.

The present paper offers a mechanistic interpretation of filtration coefficients L(pr) in isolated maize roots, measured with the use of the root pressure probe by Steudle and others (Steudle 1990, 1992; Steudle and Brickmann 1989; Steudle and Frensch 1989; Steudle and Jeschke 1983; Steudle et al. 1993) on the basis of the Kedem-Katchalsky equations. Detailed investigations have been based on the mechanistic equations of solute and solvent membrane transport across porous membranes (Kargol 2001; Kargol and Kargol 2003a,b).

The electrochemical oxidation of 3,4-dihydroxyphenylacetic acid (DOPAC) on a carbon fiber microelectrode (CF) and a glassy carbon macroelectrode (GC) in glacial acetic acid solutions was investigated using voltammetric techniques. Voltammograms recorded at these electrodes show well-defined single waves or peaks. The proposed mechanism of the anodic oxidation of DOPAC consists of two successive one-electron one-proton steps.
