Vascular dementia (VaD) is the second most common form of senile dementia, embraces memory deficits, neuroinflammation, executive function damage, mood and behavioral changes and abnormal cerebral blood flow. The purpose of the study was to explore the therapeutic potential of betulinic acid in bilateral common carotid artery occlusion (BCCAO) induced VaD in experimental rats. VaD was induced by BCCAO in rats and betulinic acid (10 and 15 mg/kg/day po) was administered 1 week after surgery.

Neurosteroids, such as testosterone and their metabolites, are known to modulate neuronal excitability. The enzymes regulating the metabolism of these neurosteroids, thus, may be targeted as a noval strategy for the development of new antiepileptic drugs. The present work targeted two such enzymes i,e aromatase and 5α-reductase in order to explore the potential of letrozole (an aromatase inhibitor) on pentylenetetrazole (PTZ)-induced kindling in mice and the ability of finasteride (a 5α-reductase inhibitor) to modulate any such effects.

Two new series of benzimidazole bearing oxadiazole[1-(1H-benzo[d]imidazol-2-yl)-3-(5-substituted-1,3,4-oxadiazol-2-yl)propan-1-ones (4a-l)] and triazolo-thiadiazoles[1-(1H-benzo[d]imidazol-2-yl)-3-(6-(substituted)-[1,2,4]triazolo[3,4-b][1,3,4]thiadiazol-3-yl)propan-1-one (7a-e)] have been synthesized successfully from 4-(1H-benzo[d]imidazol-2-yl)-4-oxobutanehydrazide (3) with an aim to produce promising anticancer agents. In vitro anticancer activities of synthesized compounds were screened at the National Cancer Institute (NCI), USA, according to their applied protocol against full NCI 60 human cell lines panel; results showed good to remarkable anticancer activity. Among them, compound (4j, NCS: 761980) exhibited significant growth inhibition and further screened at 10-fold dilutions of five different concentrations (0.

Oxidative stress and inflammatory damage play an important role in cerebral ischemic pathogenesis and may represent a target for treatment. The present study examined the hypothesis that S-allyl cysteine (SAC), organosulfur compounds found in garlic extract, would reduce oxidative stress-associated brain injury after middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO). To test this hypothesis, male Wistar rats were subjected to MCAO for 2 hours and 22-hour reperfusion.
