Introduction: Bisphenol A (BPA) is suspected to cause hormonal imbalance in humans. Dietary factors are known to bring changes in hormonal profile. In order to study chemico-biological interaction of iron deficiency on toxicity outcome of BPA exposure, we studied the modulatory effects of iron deficiency on the hormone levels in rats chronically-exposed to BPA.

Objective of this study was to determine whether the prepared nanoemulsion would be able to deliver selegiline to the brain by intranasal route, improving its bioavailability. Antioxidant activity, pharmacokinetic parameters, and dopamine concentration were determined. Oxidative stress models, which had Parkinson's disease-like symptoms, were used to evaluate the antioxidant activity of nanoemulsion loaded with selegiline in vivo.

Gram-positive bacteria are among the most common human pathogens associated with clinical infections which range from mild skin infections to sepsis. Resistance towards existing class of drugs by Gram-positive bacteria including methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), Staphylococcus epidermidis (MRSE) and vancomycin resistant enterococci (VRE) is a growing concern. There is an urgent need to discover new antibiotics which are active against resistant strains of Gram positive bacteria.

Calcium channel blockers (CCBs) are an established class of drug for the management of hypertension. Observational studies have found that CCB use is associated with a reduction in the risk of developing dementia; however, studies have variably linked the CCBs use with the risk of dementia. This meta-analysis aims to assess whether, in elderly hypertensive patients, the use of CCBs alters the risk of developing dementia.

Duloxetine is a well-known antidepressant molecule which is used in the treatment of depression but due to poor solubility it suffers with the drawback of low oral bioavailability. The objective of present work was to formulate and characterize duloxetine loaded microemulsion to enhance the oral bioavailability. Prepared microemulsion was studied for droplet size, zeta potential, refractive index, polydispersity index (PDI), percentage transmittance, viscosity and in vitro release study.

Recent findings of potential implications of glycogen synthase kinase-3β (GSK-3β) dysfunction in psychiatric disorders like depression, have increased focus for development of GSK-3β inhibitors with possible anti-depressant activity. Keeping this in view, we synthesized a series of benzimidazole-linked-1,3,4-oxadiazole carboxamides and evaluated them for in vitro GSK-3β inhibition. Active compounds were investigated for in vivo antidepressant activity in Wistar rats.

Metabolic disorders are closely associated with dietary habits and seem to be related to neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative disease in humans. Emblica officinalis (EOT) fruits not only have good nutritional value but also have excellent therapeutic potential. We used a tannins-enriched fraction of EOT fruit with the expectation of controlling diet-induced neuroinflammation and cognitive impairment in rats.

Design of therapeutically viable antimicrobial peptides with cell selectivity against microorganisms is an important step towards the development of new antimicrobial agents. Here, we report four de novo designed, short amphipathic sequences based on a α-helical template comprising of Lys, Trp and Leu or their corresponding D-and/or β-amino acids. Sequence A-12 was protease susceptible whereas its α/β-diastereomeric analogue UNA-12 was resistant to trypsin and proteinase K up to 24 h.

Progesterone (P4), a well-known neurosteroid, is produced by ovaries and placenta in females and by adrenal glands in both sexes. Progesterone is also synthesized by central nervous system (CNS) tissues to perform various vital neurological functions in the brain. Apart from performing crucial reproductive functions, it also plays a pivotal role in neurogenesis, regeneration, cognition, mood, inflammation, and myelination in the CNS.

Growing rice on arsenic (As)-contaminated soil or irrigating with As-contaminated water leads to significant accumulation of As in grains. Moreover, rice accumulates more As into grains than other cereal crops. Thus, rice consumption has been identified as a major route of human exposure to As in many countries.

Aim: To assess the use of Cochrane Reviews to inform the medical policy documents of major US private payers.
Methods: The publically available drug policy documents of the five major US private payers (covering about 50% market) namely: Anthem, Aetna, Cigna, Humana and United Healthcare (UHC) were assessed in February 2017 and reviewed to find whether they had used Cochrane Reviews. We extracted information such as use of Cochrane Reviews, number of Cochrane Reviews used, context of use and impact of Cochrane Reviews on policy, and Cochrane Review Group (CRG) and Cochrane Center linked to the Cochrane Review.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder and the most common type of dementia in elderly ( >65years of age). Excessive extra cellular deposits of amyloid beta (Aβ) are a pathological feature of AD. Aβ can cause cell death through oxidative damage; recent studies have implicated opening of mPTP as a detrimental event in AD-related mitochondrial dysfunctions.

Background: There has been conflicting reports on the effect of third generation aromatase inhibitors on cognition in estrogen-deficient states. Since aromatase inhibitors themselves cause estrogen deprivation, the present work was designed to evaluate the comparative effect of three aromatase inhibitors on behavioral measures of learning and memory in female mice. Further, in view of the reports of estrogen and Wnt signaling pathway in cognition, the role of two Wnt signaling antagonists (dickkopf-1 and sclerostin) in mediation of cognitive effects of aromatase inhibitors was evaluated.

Calcined Jade (CJ) is a metasilicate frequently used in traditional system of medicine as tonic to vital organs with several other pharmacological activities. X-ray powder diffraction (XRPD), inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS), atomic absorption spectroscopy (AAS) and CHNS analyzer techniques were used to characterize CJ sample. CJ was administered orally to Swiss albino mice at a dose of 50, 75, 100 and 200 μg/kg body weight for 10 days and modulation of the macrophage mediated innate immune responses was studied.

Benzo(a)pyrene (B(a)P) is an environmental pollutant which causes various lung toxicities. The present study was designed to evaluate the protective effects of carvacrol, a monoterpenic phenol against B(a)P-induced lung toxicity. In this study, Swiss albino mice were pretreated with carvacrol (25 mg/kg and 50 mg/kg) orally for 7 consecutive days before administering oral B(a)P (125 mg/kg).

This study was conducted to evaluate the nephroprotective effect of Glycine max seed extract (soybean oil) against gentamicin- and rifampicin-induced nephrotoxicity in Sprague-Dawley rats and to compare its effects with those of vitamin E, which has well-established antioxidant and nephroprotective effects. Sixty male Sprague-Dawley rats (body weight 150-210 g) were divided into 10 groups. The first five groups were treated for 14 consecutive days with normal saline (5 ml/kg, by mouth [p.

Emerging evidence suggests that thiazole compounds are of great interest due to their protective effect against DM. Protective effects of thiazole derivatives against hyperglycemia have been demonstrated in earlier in vitro and in vivo studies. Previously, anti-oxidant and free radical scavenging activities of 2-(4-Fluorobenzamido)-4-methylthiazole-5-carboxylicacid, a newly developed thiazole derivative (NDTD), have been well-documented.

Recent clinical studies report antipsychotics as a better option to augment the action of antidepressants in treatment resistant cases. However, the proper mechanisms underlying the antidepressant effect of antipsychotics is still not clear. Indolamine 2, 3 dioxygenase (IDO) pathway is considered to be an important pathway in pro-inflammatory cytokine associated stress-induced depression.
