Educational strategies that allow students to experience patient care in both rural and urban settings are imperative to the recruitment and retention of nurses for medically underserved populations or health professional shortage areas. Two state schools of nursing (one urban-oriented and one rural-oriented) in the Mid-Atlantic region were awarded Health Resources and Service Administration (HRSA) project funding to educate nursing students and registered nurses in community-based primary care settings. This article will discuss an innovative rural-urban baccalaureate nursing student exchange model intended to increase understanding of enhanced RN roles in community-based primary care settings.

Institutions of higher education with tenure and promotion policies that rely heavily on student evaluations of teaching may create academic progression barriers for Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) faculty. The purpose of this policy analysis is to explore how current practice of utilizing Student Evaluation of Teaching (SETs) as the major source to evaluate teaching effectiveness, impacts tenure for BIPOC faculty, using Bardach and Patashnik's (2019) eight steps of policy analysis. Context provided includes cultural history, policy and evidence regarding the use of SETs.

Objectives: An international Nursing Leadership Collaborative covened in Japan to hold a patient safety and quality workshop for nursing students from six countries. The purpose was to measure students' self reported beliefs reflecting sensitivity and openness to cultural diversity before and after the international experience.
Methods: A pre-post-test design was used and the Beliefs, Events, and Values Inventory was administered to international undergraduate and graduate nursing students.

International study abroad programs offered by American universities provide opportunities to experience global health care disparities. This qualitative phenomenological research using a hermeneutic approach was conducted to explore how clinical experience in Tanzania influenced the knowledge and attitudes of prelicensure baccalaureate nursing students toward culture, health care disparities, and health care outcomes. Two main themes emerged from the research: thinking as another and carrying it forward.

Structural competency describes the ability to recognize structural factors that affect health disparities, such as inequity and stigma. These structural factors can alter a patient's symptoms and risk for certain diseases. The purpose of this study was to describe baccalaureate nursing students' attributions of the effects of structural factors on health.

Background: Research on simulation in nursing education has demonstrated the positive impact active, experiential learning has on student satisfaction, self-confidence, and knowledge. As a result, simulation laboratories with high-fidelity human patient simulators have become a common adjunct to clinical teaching. It is important to also promote active learning in the classroom setting; however, there is limited evidence on using video simulations in large classrooms.

Meningococcal meningitis is a potentially fatal disease which can affect many 15- to 24-year-olds and those that are affected could have been protected from the disease if they had received the vaccination. The number of reported cases has increased during the past decade and account for many preventable deaths. The purpose of this study was to determine school nurses' working knowledge of autism spectrum disorders (ASDs). The current knowledge of school nurses was investigated by means of a mixed-method exploratory descriptive pilot study. Instrumentation included a scale that measured the knowledge of school nurses in regard to ASD, including medication usage and side effects, communication skills, safety issues, collaboration skills, and community resources.
