Introduction: Asthma encompasses a spectrum of phenotypes often categorized into two groups- type 2 high (T2 high) and type 2 low (T2 low). T2 high includes atopic and eosinophilic presentations whereas T2 low is non-atopic, non-eosinophilic, and oft associated with neutrophilic inflammation. Eosinophilic asthma is often driven by IgE, IL-4, IL-5, and IL-13 and TSLP.

Whereas adrenergic stimulation promotes cardiac function that demands more fuel and energy, how this receptor controls cardiac glucose metabolism is not defined. This study shows that the cardiac β adrenoreceptor (βAR) is required to increase glucose transporter 4 (GLUT4)-mediated glucose uptake in myocytes and glucose oxidation in working hearts via activating the cardiac βAR and promotes the G inhibitory-phosphoinositide 3-kinase-protein kinase B cascade to increase phosphorylation of TBC1D4 (aka AS160), a Rab guanosine triphosphatase-activating protein, which is a key enzyme to mobilize GLUT4. Furthermore, deleting G-protein receptor kinase phosphorylation sites of βAR blocked adrenergic stimulation of GLUT4-mediated glucose uptake in myocytes and hearts.

Nasal allergen challenge (NAC) is applied in a variety of settings (research centers, specialty clinics, and hospitals) as a useful diagnostic and research tool. NAC is indicated for diagnosis of seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis, local allergic rhinitis, and occupational rhinitis; to design the composition of allergen immunotherapy in patients who are polysensitized; and to investigate the physio-pathological mechanisms of nasal diseases. NAC is currently a safe and reproducible technique, although it is time- and resource-consuming.

These evidence-based guidelines support patients, clinicians, and other stakeholders in decisions about the use of intranasal corticosteroids (INCS), biologics, and aspirin therapy after desensitization (ATAD) for the management of chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyposis (CRSwNP). It is important to note that the current evidence on surgery for CRSwNP was not assessed for this guideline nor were management options other than INCS, biologics, and ATAD. The Allergy-Immunology Joint Task Force on Practice Parameters formed a multidisciplinary guideline panel balanced to include the views of multiple stakeholders and to minimize potential biases.

During deployment to the Persian Gulf War and Southwest Asia theatre of operations, Veterans often experienced various hazards, foremost being open-air burn pits and oil well fires. While over 23 presumptive conditions (ranging from brain cancer, interstitial lung disease, and lymphomas to sleep/mood disorders, depression, and cognitive impairment) have been studied in connection with their military-related exposures, there is a paucity of qualitative research on this topic. Alzheimer's disease (AD) includes several hallmarks comprised of amyloid- (Aβ) deposition, tau neuropathology, inflammation, and memory impairment. Brain metabolism becomes uncoupled due to aging and other AD risk factors, which ultimately lead to impaired protein clearance and aggregation. Introduction: Severe uncontrolled asthma is by definition refractory to traditional therapies or can be controlled only with therapies that have intolerable side effects. Monoclonal antibodies that target interleukin (IL)-5/IL-5Rα, IgE, and IL-4Rα have shown favorable results in clinical trials, including reductions in asthma exacerbations and other important clinical outcomes. The molecular mechanisms underlying susceptibility to severe respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) infection remain poorly understood. Herein, we report on the role of osteopontin (OPN) in regulation of RSV infection in human epithelial cells and how interleukin-1 beta (IL-1β), a cytokine secreted soon after RSV infection, when persistently expressed can induce OPN expression leading to increased viral infection.
