A Schiff base compound 4-(E)-[2-(benzylamino)phenylimino)methyl-2]ethoxy phenol (4BPM2EP) was synthesized and spectroscopic characterization was performed using experimental methods such as FT-IR, FT-Raman and UV-Vis spectroscopy. Density functional theory (DFT/B3LYP/6-311++G(d,p)) computation was used to investigate the optimized molecular geometry, harmonic vibrational wavenumber, NMR chemical shifts, natural bond orbital (NBO) analysis, non-linear optical (NLO) properties, molecular electrostatic potential (MEP) map and Mulliken atomic charges of 4BPM2EP molecule. TD-DFT calculations have been carried out on the optimized geometry at gaseous phase, DMSO and ethanol to further understand the electronic transitions and solvents effect on the UV-Vis spectra of the compound.

The co-occurrence of heavy metals, antibiotic-resistant bacteria (ARB) and antibiotic-resistance genes (ARGs) from hospital effluents spreading into the river receiving systems and evaluating associated risks are topics of scientific interest and still under-studied in developing countries under tropical conditions. To understand the selectors of the ARGs, we examined the occurrence of heavy metals (Cr, Co, Ni, Cu, Cd, Pb and Zn), associated ARB (β-lactam-resistant Escherichia coli, β-lactam-resistant Enterobacteriaceae, and carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae) and ARGs (bla, bla, bla, bla) in water and sediments from two sub-urban rivers receiving urban and hospital effluent waters in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). High abundances of ARB and ARGs were observed in all sediment samples.

The acid-mediated (oxalic acid [OXA], cinnamic acid [CA], and itaconic acid [IA]) SnO nanorods were synthesized by the hydrothermal method. The synthesized SnO nanorods, in turn, were analyzed with various physico-chemical techniques such as the X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), scanning electron microscope (SEM), and Raman spectroscopy. This study aims to estimate anthropogenic sources of pollutants such as heavy metals that pollute or poison the commercial marine finfish and shellfish present around the Ennore coastal area and to identify, quantify and manage the associated risks for the betterment of society. The levels of toxic heavy metal concentrations from monitoring and surveillance of copper, chromium, cadmium, mercury, lead and zinc heavy metals were estimated from water, sediment and commercial marine finfish and shellfish samples that were collected for study. Herein, curcumin-chitosan-zinc oxide (CCZ) was successfully synthesized by a one-pot method. Transmission electron micrograph reveals that curcumin and chitosan were layered on a hexagonal ZnO and the particles are sized to ∼48 ±2nm.

In this study, red LED and urea used as light and nitrogen sources, respectively, for the cultivation of Spirulina to enhance the fluorescence property and purity of phycocyanin. Besides, there is a high concentration of phycocyanin leached out from red light (RL) grown cells than white light (WL) without cell disruption. This type of cultivation reduces the complexity of extraction methods and cost of the downstream process.
