Direct-acting antivirals (DAA) regimens have provided hope for eliminating hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection. Patients following ineffective therapy with DAA, especially those previously treated with inhibitors of non-structural protein 5A (NS5A), remain a challenge. The study aimed to assess the effectiveness of DAA pangenotypic options in patients after failure of NS5A containing genotype-specific regimens.

Despite the extensive literature on stroke rehabilitation, there are few studies that comprehensively show non-ambulatory stroke patients. The aim of the study was to explore the dynamics of the change in physical activity (PA), psychological and functional outcomes, and the correlation between them in non-ambulatory patients during early in-patient post-stroke rehabilitation. Measurements were taken on 21 participants at the beginning of and 6 weeks post-conventional rehabilitation with the Barthel Index (BI), Berg Balance Scale (BBS), Trunk Control Test (TCT), Stroke Impact Scale (SIS), General Self-Efficacy Scale, Stroke Self-Efficacy Questionnaire (SSEQ), the original scale of belief in own impact on recovery (BiOIoR), Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale, Acceptance of Illness Scale and when the patient could walk—Time Up & Go and 6 Minute Walk Test.

The study characterises vascular phenotypes of hypertensive patients utilising machine learning approaches. Newly diagnosed and treatment-naïve primary hypertensive patients without co-morbidities (aged 18-55, n = 73), and matched normotensive controls (n = 79) were recruited (NCT04015635). Blood pressure (BP) and BP variability were determined using 24 h ambulatory monitoring.

At the beginning of the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) pandemic, patients with inborn errors of immunity (IEI) appeared to be particularly vulnerable to a severe course of the disease. It quickly turned out that only some IEI groups are associated with a high risk of severe infection. However, data on the course of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) in patients with IEI are still insufficient, especially in children; hence, further analyses are required.

Hepatitis C infection is one of the main reasons for liver cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma. In recent years, more and more is being heard about extrahepatic manifestations of the hepatitis C infection including its possible influence on the development of hypertension and cardiovascular diseases. In the given work, the frequency analysis of the incidence of hypertension and cardiovascular diseases among 2898 HCV-infected patients treated in Poland and the assessment of their relevance to the HCV genotype and the progression of liver fibrosis can be found.

A mechanical activation of the solid particles upon high-energy ball milling may considerably change the physicochemical properties of pharmaceutical compounds, including the morphology, particle size distribution, thermal properties, and surface interactions with water vapour upon gaseous phase hydration. Assessment of these changes is crucial for optimizing the manufacturing process of enabling drug products. In this article, we provide a detailed characterization of binary co-milled solid dispersions composed of tadalafil and Soluplus using a laser diffraction method, differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), gravimetric measurements and solid state H- NMR spectroscopy.

Background: Infections caused by Stenotrophomonas maltophilia (SM) have documented high mortality rate in immunocompromised patients.
Aim: This nationwide multicenter study was performed to analyze the epidemiology of SM infections in children undergoing anticancer therapy (pediatric hematology and oncology [PHO]) or hematopoietic cell transplantation (HCT) over 2012-2019, including incidence and outcome of SM infections, as well as treatment regimens and multidrug resistance.
Methods: Cumulative incidence of SM infections was calculated using the competing risk analysis from the day of diagnosis (PHO setting) or from the day of transplantation (HCT setting).

Background: Clonidine is a presynaptic alpha-2-adrenergic receptor agonist that has been used for many years to treat hypertension and other conditions, including chronic pain. Adverse events associated with systemic use of the drug have limited its application. Topical use of drugs has been gaining interest since the beginning of the century, as it may limit adverse events without loss of analgesic efficacy.
