The ethanol extract of stalks of Nelumbo nucifera (NNSE) was evaluated for its antipyretic potential on normal body temperature and yeast induced pyrexia in rats. NNSE showed significant activity in both the models at oral doses of 200 and 400 mg/kg. NNSE at a dose of 200 mg/kg was found to produce significant lowering of normal body temperature up to 3 h and at 400 mg/kg it caused significant lowering of body temperature up to 6 h after its administration.

A matrix type of transdermal drug delivery system of terbutaline sulfate was designed and developed by full 3(2) factorial method using polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) of medium molecular weight and polyvinyl pyrrolidone (PVP K-30) as matrix forming polymer and propylene glycol as plasticizer. Patches were designed to deliver 62 micrograms/cm2/hr of the drug into the systemic circulation. These were evaluated for in vitro skin permeation study through excised guinea pig skin.

The rhizome of Nelumbo nucifera Gaertn (fam. Nymphaeaceae) was studied to fix the parameters for pharmacognostical standards. The present investigation deals with the macro and microscopically characters of rhizome along with studies on some physical constants, behavior of powdered rhizomes on treatment with different chemical reagents and florescence characteristics on exposure to U.

Salbutamol sulphate, a bronchodilatatory drug for asthma, is encapsulated by Emulsion-Solvent-Evaporation technique using cellulose acetatephthalate as coating polymeric material. Different process parameters like Stirring Speed, Drug-Polymer Ratio, Solvent-Polymer Ratio, Internal Phase-External Phase Ratio, Effects of Temperature, and of Surfactants have been studied to standardise the process. At optimal condition of process parameters maximum encapsulation efficiency is obtained and microcapsules produced are free flowing and spherical.

An antineoplastic agent, cis-K4 [PtCl2ATP] has been synthesized and characterized, using elemental analysis, solution conductance, thermoanalysis, infrared, NMR spectroscopy, and circular dichroism studies. The in vitro cytotoxic effect imparted by this compound on Dalton's Lymphoma cells has been assessed by Trypan blue dye exclusion method and 51Cr release assays.
