Background: Inadequate and excessive gestational weight gain (GWG) defined by the Institute of Medicine (IOM) has been associated with preterm birth. However, studies demonstrate inconsistent associations.

Objectives: We examined the associations between categorical and continuous total GWG and moderate to late preterm birth (32-<37 weeks), and evaluated differences in these associations by pre-pregnancy BMI.

This stimulated the development of hybrid layered (two-dimensional, 2D) halide perovskites based on hydrophobic organic spacers, templating perovskite slabs, as a more stable alternative. However, conventional organic spacer cations are electronically insulating, resulting in charge confinement within the inorganic slabs, thus limiting their functionality.

Development of novel GI-centric prostaglandin E receptor type 4 (EP4) agonist prodrugs as treatment for ulcerative colitis and other intestinal inflammatory diseases.

Prostaglandin E receptor type 4 (EP4) agonists have been shown to be effective in treating experimental ulcerative colitis (UC) in animals and in human clinical trials, but their development has been impeded by unacceptable systemic side effects. In this study, a series of methylene phosphate prodrugs of a highly potent and selective prostaglandin EP4 receptor agonist were designed to target and remain localized in the gastrointestinal (GI) tract after either oral or rectal instillation. The prodrugs were designed to be converted to liberate active EP4 agonist by intestinal alkaline phosphate (IAP), a ubiquitous enzyme found at the luminal of the intestinal wall thus exposing the colon epithelial barrier while reducing systemic exposure to the active agonist.

Public hospital-based care for abortive events in Mexico: complication rates and socio-demographic factors, 2018-2022.

Background: Abortion-related complications are difficult to measure due to lack of standardized definitions and limited available data. We describe the proportion of abortive events that result in a documented complication in Mexico's public sector hospitals.

Methods: We used ICD-10 codes from Mexico's hospital discharge system (2018-2022), Subsistema Automatizado de Egresos Hospitalarios (SAEH), to describe abortive events admitted to hospitals: complications for excessive bleeding, infection, embolism, and unspecified; patient socio-demographic and clinical characteristics; and municipality-level structural vulnerability.

Direct Immunofluorescence in Dermatomyositis and Lupus Erythematosus: Cross-Sectional Diagnostic Accuracy and Correlation With Serologies and Other Features of Systemic Disease.

This is a retrospective cross-sectional diagnostic test accuracy study of direct immunofluorescence (DIF) performed on a group of potential lupus erythematosus (LE)/dermatomyositis (DM) skin biopsies from 2015 to 2020 at a large, academic medical center. For purposes of this study, which was focused primarily on detection of LE/DM-related interface dermatitis, DIF was considered positive for a LE/DM pattern if it showed granular deposition of immunoglobulin G, with or without C3, at the basement membrane zone on the final pathology report. Blinded clinicopathologic correlation was the reference standard.

After Risk-Adjustment Change, Dementia Diagnoses Increased In Medicare Advantage Relative To Traditional Medicare.

In 2020, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services reintroduced Alzheimer's disease and related dementias to its risk-adjustment payment model for Medicare Advantage (MA) plans. Using 2017-20 data for 100 percent of community-dwelling beneficiaries enrolled in Medicare, we evaluated how the reintroduction of dementia to the risk-adjustment model affected rates of new (incident) dementia diagnoses among beneficiaries enrolled in MA relative to those enrolled in traditional Medicare. In response to the payment change, annual incident dementia diagnosis rates in MA increased by 11.

Objective: Human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine uptake remains suboptimal. Our stepped-wedge cluster randomized trial found that reminder-recall letters sent to parents of age-eligible children significantly increased vaccine uptake compared to usual care. AI-assisted Total Body Dermoscopic Evaluation of Changes in Melanocytic Nevi during Pregnancy: A Prospective, Comparative Study of 2,799 Nevi.

Pregnancy-associated changes in melanocytic nevi (MN), apart from size increase on the trunk, remain a topic of debate. We conducted the first prospective study to investigate dermoscopic changes in MN comparing pregnant with non-pregnant women on all body parts using a market-approved convolutional neural network (CNN). We included 25 pregnant and 25 non-pregnant women from Basel, Switzerland, who underwent standard skin cancer screenings and whose MN > 2 mm were digitally recorded and analysed by a CNN.

Improved visualization of the inferior tympanic and mastoid canaliculi with photon counting detector CT.

Purpose: To compare the performance of the photon-counting detector (PCD)-CT versus a state-of-the-art energy-integrating detector (EID)-CT to identify segments of the inferior tympanic canaliculus (Jacobsons nerve) and the mastoid canaliculus (Arnolds nerve).

Materials & Methods: Patients were prospectively recruited to undergo temporal bone CT on both EID-CT (Siemens Somatom Force) and PCD-CT (Siemens NAEOTOM Alpha) scanners under an IRB-approved protocol. Three neuroradiologists reviewed cases by consensus comparing the ability to identify the proximal, mid, and distal segments of the inferior tympanic canaliculus/Jacobsons nerve and mastoid canaliculus/Arnolds nerve on each scanner using 5-point Likert scales (with 1 indicating EID is far superior to PCD, 3 indicating they are equivalent, and 5 indicating PCD is far superior to EID).

Here, we combine resistive-pulse sensing (RPS) with fluorescence lifetime imaging microscopy (FLIM) to differentiate liposomes at the single-particle level.
