Article Synopsis
  • Periodontitis and type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) both elevate levels of Interleukin-6 (IL-6), leading to bone destruction and contributing to dental issues.
  • This study involved 240 participants and aimed to explore the role of salivary IL-6 in diagnosing chronic periodontitis (CP) and associated tooth loss in individuals with T2DM.
  • Results showed that salivary IL-6 levels were significantly higher in T2DM patients with CP and tooth loss, indicating its potential as a non-invasive biomarker for assessing periodontal disease severity.

Article Synopsis
  • * Advancements in genomic and bioinformatics research have enhanced our understanding of the complex genetic interactions that contribute to cancer, but challenges like epigenetic resistance remain obstacles in effective treatment development.
  • * Although many anticancer drugs stem from natural sources, particularly plants and microorganisms, there is a notable gap in research on algae-based treatments, prompting a review of their potential as innovative therapeutic options.

Background: Dipeptidyl peptidase-IV (DPP-IV) inhibitors, the enhancers of incretin are used for the treatment of diabetes. The non-glycaemic actions of these drugs (under developmental stage) also proved that repurposing of these molecules may be advantageous for other few complicated disorders like cardiovascular diseases, Parkinson's disease, Alzheimer's disease, etc. OBJECTIVE: The present study was aimed to investigate the DPP-IV inhibitory potential of Calebin-A, one of the constituents of Curcuma longa.

Over recent years, advancements in nanomedicine have allowed new approaches to diagnose and treat tumors. Nano drug delivery systems exploit the enhanced permeability and retention (EPR) effect and enter the tumor tissue's interstitial space. However, tumor barriers play a crucial role, and cause inefficient EPR or the homing effect.

Background: Regenerative endodontic treatment (RET) is a promising treatment alternative for traumatized immature non-vital teeth. Advanced platelet-rich fibrin (A-PRF) contains significantly more growth factors than Platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) and has not been evaluated as a scaffold in RET. The aim of the present study was to evaluate and compare A-PRF and PRF as scaffolds in the RET concerning periapical healing, and root development of traumatized immature non-vital teeth.

Recent investigations suggest that gut microbiota affects the brain activity through the microbiota-gut-brain axis under both physiological and pathological disease conditions like Parkinson's disease. Further dopamine synthesis in the brain is induced by dopamine producing enzymes that are controlled by gut microbiota via the microbiota-gut-brain axis. Also alpha synuclein deposition and the associated neurodegeneration in the enteric nervous system that increase intestinal permeability, oxidative stress, and local inflammation, accounts for constipation in Parkinson's disease patients.
