A comprehensive knowledge of the structure-activity relationship of the framework material is decisive to develop efficient multifunctional electrocatalysts. In this regard, two different metal organophosphonate compounds, [Ni(Hhedp)]·4HO () and [Ni(Hhedp)(CHN)]·6HO () have been isolated through one-pot hydrothermal strategy by using Hhedp (1-hydroxyethane 1,1-diphosphonic acid) and N-donor auxiliary ligand (pyrazine; CHN). The structures of synthesized materials have been established through single-crystal X-ray diffraction studies, which confirm that compound formed a one-dimensional molecular chain structure, while compound exhibited a three-dimensional extended structure.

The rise of multidrug-resistant bacterial infections and the dwindling supply of newly approved antibiotics have emerged as a grave threat to public health. Toward the ever-growing necessity of the development of novel antimicrobial agents, herein, we synthesized a series of cationic amphiphilic biocides featuring two cationic headgroups separated by different hydrophobic spacers, accompanied by the inclusion of two lipophilic tails through cleavable ester functionality. The detailed aggregation properties offered by these biocides were investigated by small-angle neutron scattering (SANS) and conductivity.

Electric field-assisted CO capture using solid adsorbents based on basic oxides can immensely reduce the required energy consumption compared to the conventional processes of temperature or pressure swing adsorption. In this work, we present first-principles density functional theoretical calculations to investigate the effects of an applied external electric field (AEEF) within the range from -1 to 1 V Å on the CO adsorption behavior on various high and low-index facets of MgO. When CO is strongly adsorbed on MgO surfaces to form carbonate species, the coupling of electric fields with the resulting intrinsic dipole moment induces a 'switch' from a strongly chemisorbed state to a weakly chemisorbed or physisorbed state at a critical value of AEEF.

The aggregation of amyloid proteins in the brain is a significant neurotoxic event that contributes to neurodegenerative disorders. The aggregation of amyloid beta (Aβ), particularly Aβ42 monomers, into various forms such as oligomers, protofibrils, fibrils, and amyloid plaques is a key pathological feature in Alzheimer's disease. As a result, Aβ42 is a primary target and the development of molecular strategies for the dissolution of Aβ42 aggregates is considered a promising approach to mitigating Alzheimer's disease pathology.

Two-dimensional tin(II) halide perovskites stand as an environmentally benign alternative to Pb(II) halide perovskites. However, they are often challenging to make due to the oxidation of Sn(II) ion to more stable Sn(IV) ion. Here we report hybrid tin bromide and iodide perovskites: (1,4-BDA)Sn(IV)Br and (1,4-BDA)Sn(II)X (where X = Br, I; 1,4-BDA = 1,4-diammoniumbutane) with 0D and 2D structures, respectively.

P38γ (MAPK12) is predominantly expressed in triple negative breast cancer cells (TNBC) and induces stem cell (CSC) expansion resulting in decreased survival of the patients due to metastasis. Abundance of G-rich sequences at MAPK12 promoter implied the functional probability to reverse tumorigenesis, though the formation of G-Quadruplex (G4) structures at MAPK12 promoter is elusive. Here, we identified two evolutionary consensus adjacent G4 motifs upstream of the MAPK12 promoter, forming parallel G4 structures.

Understanding the mechanism of chirality transfer from a chiral surface to an achiral molecule is essential for designing molecular systems with tunable chiroptical properties. These aspects are explored herein using l- and d-isomers of alkyl valine amphiphiles, which self-assemble in water as nanofibers possessing a negative surface charge. An achiral chromophore, acridine orange, upon electrostatic binding on these surfaces displays mirror-imaged bisignated circular dichroism and red-emitting circularly polarized luminescence signals with a high dissymmetry factor.

Gram-negative bacterial infections pose a significant challenge due to two major resistance elements, including the impermeability of the outer membrane and the overexpression of efflux pumps, which contribute to antibiotic resistance. Additionally, the coexistence of multispecies superbugs in mixed species biofilms further complicates treatment, as these infections are refractory to most antibiotics. To address this issue, combining obsolete antibiotics with non-antibiotic adjuvants that target bacterial membranes has shown promise in combating antibacterial resistance.

This work highlights the significance of dielectric confinements and exciton binding energy of hybrid layered perovskites (LPs) in controlling the carrier relaxation dynamics of LPs for designing efficient optoelectronic devices. The polarizability of organic spacer cations in LPs modulates the carrier-phonon and carrier-carrier interactions, which eventually control the carrier relaxation dynamics. Here, we have varied the alkyl-ammonium chain length in the LPs to change the dielectric confinement, and the first-principles calculations reveal that the long-chain organic spacer experiences stronger dielectric confinement in comparison to short-chain organic spacer cation-based LPs.

Simple and efficient designs that enable a wide range of phosphorescence emission in organic materials have ignited scientific interest across diverse fields. One particularly promising approach is the cocrystallization strategy, where organic cocrystals are ingeniously formed through relatively weaker and dynamic non-covalent interactions. Closely mimicking the hierarchical structural topology with emerging behavioral functionalities of biological neural networks in neuromorphic devices is considered of prime importance for the realization of energy-efficient intelligent systems. In this article, we report an artificial synaptic network (ASN) comprising of hierarchical structures of isolated Al and Ag micro-nano structures developed the utilization of a desiccated crack pattern, anisotropic dewetting, and self-formation. The strategically designed ASN, despite having multiple synaptic junctions between electrodes, exhibits a threshold switching ( ∼ 1-2 V) with an ultra-low energy requirement of ∼1.

The mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) of an organism possess an extraordinary capacity to differentiate into multiple lineages of adult cells in the body and are known for their immunomodulatory and anti-inflammatory properties. The use of these stem cells is a boon to the field of regenerative biology, but at the same time, a bane to regenerative medicine and therapeutics owing to the multiple cellular ambiguities associated with them. These ambiguities may arise from the diversity in the source of these stem cells and from their in vitro growth conditions, both of which reflect upon their functional heterogeneity.
