[Value of immunocytochemistry in differential diagnosis of gastric adenocarcinoma, reactive mesothelial cells and malignant epithelial mesothelioma in metastatic effusion fluid].

To investigate the diagnostic value of some antibodies in peritoneal fluid of patients with gastric cancer and malignant epithelioid mesothelioma in serous effusion. One hundred and eighty-two cases of serous effusion were collected at Jilin Cancer Hospital, from July 2012 to July 2016. The expression of GLUT1, CDX2, Villin, calretinin and WT1 was evaluated using SP immunocytochemical technique in peritoneal fluid samples collected from 98 patients with gastric cancer and 74 patients with reactive mesothelial cells.

[Advances in Long Non-coding RNAs on Resistant to EGFR-TKIs in Non-small Cell Lung Cancer].

Most non-small cell lung cancer patients with active epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) mutation will eventually acquire drug resistant to EGFR tyrosine kinase inhibitors, such as gefitinib, resulting in disease progression, which involves a variety of complex mechanisms. Up to now, the molecular mechanisms of long non-coding RNAs mediated EGFR-TKIs resistance remains poorly understood. This review aims to outline the current state of information on lncRNAs and progress on its role in EGFR-TKIs resistance in non-small cell lung cancer.

Breast Metaplastic Squamous Cell Carcinoma Diagnosed with Fine Needle and Core Biopsy: A Case Study.

BACKGROUND Breast metaplastic squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) is a rare primary breast carcinoma, and overexpression of HER2 in this carcinoma is extremely uncommon. CASE REPORT We presented a case of a 48-year-old Asian female with breast metaplastic SCC. Fine needle aspiration biopsy (FNAB) and core needle biopsy (CNB) of the lesion were taken prior to surgical resection.

Targeting cleavage and polyadenylation specific factor 1 via shRNA inhibits cell proliferation in human ovarian cancer.

Cleavage and polyadenylation specificity factor 1 (CPSF1), a member of CPSF complex, has been reported to play a key role in pre-mRNA 3'-end formation, but its possible role in ovarian cancer remains unclear. In the present study, we found the mRNA level of CPSF1 was overexpressed in ovarian cancer tissues using Oncomine Cancer Microarray database. Then the loss-of-function assays, including CCK-8, colony formation and flow cytometry assays, were performed to determine the effects of CPSF1 on cell viability, proliferation, cell cycle and apoptosis of human ovarian cancer cell lines (SKOV-3 and OVCAR-3).

Short- and long-term outcomes of minimally invasive esophagectomy in elderly patients with esophageal squamous cell carcinoma.

Purpose: In recent years, there has been an increase in the number of elderly patients undergoing surgery for esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC). However, there are few studies on short- and long-term outcomes of minimally invasive esophagectomy (MIE) in such patients. The purpose of this study was to report both short- and long-term outcomes of MIE in elderly patients with ESCC.

Recurrence is one of the major causes of high mortality in ovarian cancer. However, the mechanism of ovarian cancer recurrence after chemotherapy has not been fully understood. In the present study, we investigated the effect of chemotherapy-induced tumor microenvironment on the proliferation of SKOV3 cells.

Antitumor potential of a novel camptothecin derivative, ZBH-ZM-06.

Camptothecin (CPT) is a cytotoxic quinoline alkaloid that is used clinically as an anticancer drug. However, the clinical application of CPT is limited due to its low solubility as well as serious and unfathomable side-effects. In the present study, we created a novel 10-hydroxy CPT prodrug, ZBH-ZM‑06.

Male occult triple-negative breast cancer with dermatomyositis: a case report and review of the literature.

Occult breast cancer is defined by the presence of axillary metastases without an identifiable primary breast tumor. Here, we report a rare case of a male occult breast cancer with dermatomyositis. We performed a modified radical mastectomy consisting of whole breast mastectomy and axillary lymph node dissection.

[Distribution and Clinical Significance of CTLA-4, PD-1 and PD-L1 in Peripheral Blood of Patients with Small Cell Lung Cancer].

Background: The aim of this study is to explore cytotoxic T lymphocyte associated antigen 4 (CTLA-4), programmed death 1 (PD-1) and programmed death ligand 1 (PD-L1) distribution and clinical value in liquid biopsy (such as blood) of small cell lung cancer (SCLC) patients.

Methods: A total of 60 healthy and 290 chemotherapy-naive patients with SCLC were recruited. Venous blood samples were collected prior to chemotherapy (baseline) and after the second cycle of chemotherapy (2nd cycle), and flow cytometry was used to analyze the level of CTLA-4, PD-1 or PD-L1 with or without CD3, CD4, CD8 or CD25.

Nanoprodrug of retinoic acid-modified paclitaxel.

All-trans-retinoic acid (RA) is a non-toxic physiological metabolite of vitamin A. A paclitaxel (PTX) prodrug (RA-PTX) with high PTX content of 75% was synthesized via an easy condensation reaction. RA-PTX nanoparticles (RA-PTX NPs) were prepared through a nanoprecipitation method which increased the water solubility of PTX.

Downregulation of SNHG1 suppresses cell proliferation and invasion by regulating Notch signaling pathway in esophageal squamous cell cancer.

Background: Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) exert important functions involved in tumorigenesis and cancer progression including esophageal squamous cell cancer (ESCC), however, the clinical role and underlying biological function of Small Nucleolar RNA Host Gene 1 (SNHG1) in ESCC is not well known.

Methods: Quantitative Real-time polymerase chain reaction (QRT-PCR) was used to detect the SNHG1 expression levels in ESCC tissues and adjacent non-cancerous tissues. Chi-square test was used to evaluate the association between clinicopathological features and SNHG1 expression in ESCC patients, Kaplan-Meier curve and log rank test was performed to analyze the association between overall survival and SNHG1 expression.

Randomized controlled trial of S-1 versus docetaxel in patients with non-small-cell lung cancer previously treated with platinum-based chemotherapy (East Asia S-1 Trial in Lung Cancer).

Background: Chemotherapy remains a viable option for the management of advanced non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) despite recent advances in molecular targeted therapy and immunotherapy. We evaluated the efficacy of oral 5-fluorouracil-based S-1 as second- or third-line therapy compared with standard docetaxel therapy in patients with advanced NSCLC.

Patients And Methods: Patients with advanced NSCLC previously treated with ≥1 platinum-based therapy were randomized 1 : 1 to docetaxel (60 mg/m2 in Japan, 75 mg/m2 at all other study sites; day 1 in a 3-week cycle) or S-1 (80-120 mg/day, depending on body surface area; days 1-28 in a 6-week cycle).

Objective: To analyze the functioning mode of miR-645 on breast cancer cell metastasis and provide therapeutic targets for breast cancer.

Materials And Methods: Quantitative Real-time PCR (qRT-PCR) assay was employed to detect miR-645 expression level. Wound healing assay and transwell assay were performed to investigate metastasis capacity of breast cancer cells.

Berberine inhibits the chemotherapy-induced repopulation by suppressing the arachidonic acid metabolic pathway and phosphorylation of FAK in ovarian cancer.

Objectives: Cytotoxic chemotherapy is an effective and traditional treatment of ovarian cancer. However, chemotherapy-induced apoptosis may also trigger and ultimately accelerate the repopulation of the small number of adjacent surviving cells. This study mainly focused on the tumour cell repopulation caused by chemotherapy in ovarian cancer and the adjunctive/synergistic effect of Berberine on the prevention of tumour repopulation.

An anatomic study of trifurcate iliotibial bands for correcting valgus knee deformity.

Background: The iliotibial band (ITB) trifurcates into the anterior, central and posterior branches at the knee level, and sometimes the branches must be selectively released to correct the valgus knee deformity during total knee arthroplasty. However, the anatomical morphology of the trifurcate ITBs has not been investigated.

Methods: Fifty-two knees from 26 embalmed cadavers were dissected to observe and record the relationship of the three branches given off from the ITB trifurcation.

It has previously been demonstrated that multiple microRNAs (miRNAs or miRs) are aberrantly expressed in retinoblastoma (RB) and contribute to RB initiation and progression. miR‑382 has been revealed to be aberrantly expressed and therefore exhibits a key role in the progression of various types of cancer. However, the expression pattern, functional roles and underlying molecular mechanism of miR‑382 in RB remain unknown.

MiR-338 suppresses cell proliferation and invasion by targeting CTBP2 in glioma.

Background: Previous studies indicated that microRNA-338-5p (miR-338-5p) functions as tumor suppressor in some cancer types including glioma. However, the clinical significance and biological function of miR-338-5p in glioma still need to be explored.

Methods: We used quantitative real time PCR (qRT-PCR) to detect the miR-338-5p expression in the 44 cases of glioma tissues and adjacent normal tissues.

Predicting miRNA targets for head and neck squamous cell carcinoma using an ensemble method.

Background: This study aimed to uncover potential microRNA (miRNA) targets in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) using an ensemble method which combined 3 different methods: Pearson's correlation coefficient (PCC), Lasso and a causal inference method (i.e., intervention calculus when the directed acyclic graph (DAG) is absent [IDA]), based on Borda count election.

Effect of laparoscopic gastrectomy on compliance with adjuvant chemotherapy in patients with gastric cancer.

This study was designed to investigate the effect of laparoscopic gastrectomy on adjuvant chemotherapy in patients with gastric cancer.Patients with gastric cancer who underwent radical gastrectomy at our institution from January 2008 to January 2015 with R0 resection, as determined by a pathological examination, were included in this study. According to the surgical approach, patients were divided into the laparoscopic gastrectomy (LG) group and open gastrectomy (OG) group.

Efficacy and safety of fosaprepitant in the prevention of nausea and vomiting following highly emetogenic chemotherapy in Chinese people: A randomized, double-blind, phase III study.

The prevention of chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting was one of the most challenging supportive care issues in oncology, especially to highly emetogenic chemotherapy (HEC). A total of 645 patients were randomized into fosaprepitant group (fosaprepitant/placebo 150 mg d1 in combination with granisetron and dexamethasone) or aprepitant group (aprepitant/placebo 125 mg d1; 80 mg d2-d3 plus granisetron and dexamethasone).The primary endpoint was the percentage of patients who had a complete response (CR) over the entire treatment course (0-120 hr, overall phase [OP]).

Transdermal granisetron for the prevention of nausea and vomiting following moderately or highly emetogenic chemotherapy in Chinese patients: a randomized, double-blind, phase III study.

Background: The granisetron transdermal delivery system (GTDS) has been demonstrated effectiveness in the control of chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting (CINV) in previous studies. This is the first phase III study to evaluate the efficacy and tolerability of GTDS in patients receiving moderately emetogenic chemotherapy (MEC) or highly emetogenic chemotherapy (HEC) in China.

Methods: A total of 313 patients were randomized into the GTDS group (one transdermal granisetron patch, 7 days) or the oral granisetron group (granisetron oral 2 mg/day, ≥2 days).

Preparation of quantum dots CdTe decorated graphene composite for sensitive detection of uric acid and dopamine.

The assembly of quantum dots (QDs) in a simply method opens up opportunities to obtain access to the full potential of assembled QDs by virtue of the collective properties of the ensembles. In this study, quantum dots CdTe and graphene (Gr) nanocomposite was constructed for the simultaneous determination of uric acid (UA) and dopamine (DA). The CdTe QDs-Gr nanocomposite was prepared by ultrasonication and was characterized with microscopic techniques.

Therapeutic effects of sequential chemoradiotherapy with pemetrexed and cisplatin on locally advanced laryngeal cancer.

Objective: To explore the therapeutic effects of sequential chemoradiotherapy with pemetrexed and cisplatin on locally advanced laryngeal cancer (LALC).

Methods: Fifty LALC patients who were treated in our hospital between January 2010 and January 2012 were selected and randomly divided into an observation group and a control group (n=25). The two groups were given conventional radiotherapy in the same manner, before which two cycles of chemotherapy were performed.

Comprehensive treatment with Chinese medicine in patients with advanced non-small cell lung cancer: A multicenter, prospective, cohort study.

Objective: To determine whether additional Chinese medicine (CM) could prolong survival and improve the quality of life (QOL) in patients with advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) compared with Western medicine (WM) alone.
