NHC Key Laboratory of AIDS Immunology (China Medical University), National Clinical Research Center for Laboratory Medicine, The First Affiliated Hospital of China Medical University, Shenyang, China.

Human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) recombinants in the world are believed to be generated through recombination between distinct HIV-1 strains among coinfection or superinfection cases. However, direct evidence to support transmission of HIV-1 recombinants from a coinfected/superinfected donor to putative recipient is lacking. Here, we report on the origin and evolutionary relationship between a set of recombinants from a CRF01_AE/CRF07_BC superinfected putative donor and diverse CRF01_AE/CRF07_BC recombinants from five putative recipients.

Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) have been identified as critical regulators in gastric cancer (GC) progression. However, whether lncRNA small nucleolar host gene 4 (SNHG4) functions in GC development remains unknown. In this study, the bio-functional role of SNHG4 and its potential mechanism on GC progression were systematically dissected.

To construct and validate a nomogram to predict the overall survival (OS) of colorectal signet ring cell carcinoma (SRCC). The potentially eligible cases were obtained against the SEER database from 2004 to 2015. Log-rank test and Cox analysis were conducted to identify the independent prognostic factors for predicting OS.

Background And Aims: Liver enzymes, including alanine aminotransferase (ALT) and aspartate aminotransferase (AST), are markers of hepatic dysfunction and fatty liver disease. Although ALT and AST have been suggested as risk factors for cardiovascular disease, their role as predictors of mortality after acute myocardial infarction (AMI) has not been established. The objective of this study was to investigate the predictive value of ALT and AST for mortality in patients with AMI.

Objective: To investigate the diagnostic performance of 18F-FDG PET/computed tomography (CT) for the detection of occult primary tumors in patients with squamous cell carcinoma of unknown primary (SCCUP) in the head and neck.

Patients: From March 2016 to January 2020, 37 patients diagnosed as SCCUP before PET/CT were retrospectively reviewed. The diagnosis of SCCUP was made when an overt primary tumor location could not be found for histologically proven squamous cell cervical lymphadenopathy after a complete diagnostic workup which includes full medical history, physical examinations, flexible rhinolaryngoscopy and CT or MRI.

Department of Colorectal and Stomach Cancer Surgery-1, Jilin Cancer Hospital, Changchun, Jilin, 130000, PR China. Electronic address:

Colorectal carcinoma (CC), one of the most prevalent digestive cancers with high mortality and morbidity globally, still lacks powerful therapies to improve the prognosis. Here, we established that the expression of fos-like antigen-1 (Fosl1) was elevated in CC tissues versus adjacent tissues. Importantly, high Fosl1 expression was related to dismal prognosis among CC patients.

Article Synopsis
  • The IMpower133 study showed that combining atezolizumab with standard chemotherapy (carboplatin and etoposide) significantly improves overall survival and progression-free survival for patients with extensive-stage small-cell lung cancer compared to chemotherapy alone.
  • This study randomly assigned patients to receive either atezolizumab plus chemotherapy or a placebo plus chemotherapy, with results indicating a median overall survival of 12.3 months versus 10.3 months for the two groups.
  • The benefits of adding atezolizumab were consistent across various biomarker statuses, highlighting its potential as a valuable treatment option for this aggressive cancer type.

December 2020

Department of Integrated Chinese and Western Medicine, Jilin Cancer Hospital, Changchun, Jilin 130000, China.

Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women. Among breast cancer subtypes, triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) has the highest degree of malignancy and the worst prognosis. The Shuganhuazheng formula (SGHZF) is a traditional Chinese herbal formula for the treatment of TNBC, but the mechanism of SGHZF in the treatment of TNBC remains unclear.

Background: Immunotherapy combined with chemotherapy has been shown to be efficacious as treatment for advanced non-squamous non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) without targetable genetic aberrations; however, there is scarce evidence of the effectiveness of the combinations in the Asian population. We evaluated camrelizumab plus chemotherapy against non-squamous NSCLC in China.

Methods: We did a randomised, open-label, multicentre, phase 3 trial (CameL) in 52 hospitals in China for patients with non-squamous NSCLC without EGFR and ALK alteration.

This paper aimed to analyze the clinicopathological characteristics of invasive ductal carcinoma with an invasive micropapillary carcinoma component (IDC + IMPC), invasive ductal carcinoma with a ductal carcinoma in situ component (IDC + DCIS), and compare the clinicopathological characteristics and prognosis to those of IDC.A total of 1713 patients (130 IDC + IMPC cases, 352 IDC + DCIS cases, and 1231 pure IDC cases) who underwent appropriate surgery from June 2011 to September 2017 were retrospectively selected.Compared to the pure IDC and IDC + DCIS patients, the IDC + IMPC patients presented with more aggressive characteristics, such as a higher proportion of vascular invasion (P < .

Purpose: Our preclinical work suggests that appropriate angiogenesis inhibition could potentiate PD-1/PD-L1 blockade via alleviating hypoxia, increasing infiltration of CD8 T cells and reducing recruitment of tumor-associated macrophages. We hereby conducted a clinical trial to evaluate this combination in pretreated patients with advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC).

Patients And Methods: The study included phase Ib apatinib dose-escalation and phase II expansion cohorts.

Macrophages are the most abundant cells in tumor stroma and their polarization within tumor microenvironment exert the key roles in tumorigenesis. Astragaloside IV is a natural extract from traditional Chinese herbal Radix Astragali, and fulfills pleiotropic function in several cancers. Nevertheless, its function in ovarian cancer microenvironment remains elusive.

Purpose: Maintenance therapy with the poly(ADP-ribose) polymerase (PARP) inhibitor olaparib provided a substantial progression-free survival (PFS) benefit compared with placebo in patients with newly diagnosed advanced ovarian cancer and a BRCA mutation (BRCAm) who were in clinical complete or partial response following platinum-based chemotherapy in the Phase III SOLO1 global study. This led to the approval of maintenance olaparib in China, USA, EU, Japan and other countries, in the newly diagnosed setting. This separate China cohort of the SOLO1 study investigated the efficacy and safety of maintenance olaparib within the Chinese population.
