The therapeutic success and widespread approval of genetically engineered T cells for a variety of hematologic malignancies spurred the development of synthetic cell-based immunotherapies for CNS lymphoma, primary brain tumors, and a growing spectrum of nononcologic disease conditions of the nervous system. Chimeric antigen receptor effector T cells bear the potential to deplete target cells with higher efficacy, better tissue penetration, and greater depth than antibody-based cell depletion therapies. In multiple sclerosis and other autoimmune disorders, engineered T-cell therapies are being designed and currently tested in clinical trials for their safety and efficacy to eliminate pathogenic B-lineage cells.

Background: There is an unmet clinical need for minimally invasive diagnostic tests to improve the detection of grade group (GG) ≥3 prostate cancer relative to prostate antigen-specific risk calculators. A minimized version of complement factor H (FH), designated mini-FH, was previously engineered combining the N-terminal regulatory domains (short consensus repeat [SCR]1-4) and C-terminal host-surface recognition domains (SCR19-20) of the parent molecule. Despite advances in the prevention and management of chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting (CINV), these side effects remain among the most distressing for patients. We discuss the systematic review and meta-analysis by Patel et al (2022) evaluating effective and safe interventions to prevent acute phase CINV in adult and pediatric patients. With the advent of newer antiemetics during the last few decades, the incidence of CINV has improved especially for patients receiving highly emetogenic chemotherapy.

Autophagy comprises a growing range of cellular pathways, which occupy central roles in response to energy deprivation, organelle turnover and proteostasis. Over the years, autophagy has been increasingly linked to governing several aspects of immunity, including host defence against various pathogens, unconventional secretion of cytokines and antigen presentation. While canonical autophagy-mediated antigen processing in thymic epithelial cells supports the generation of a self-tolerant CD4 T cell repertoire, mounting evidence suggests that deregulated autophagy pathways contribute to or sustain autoimmune responses.

Intraoperative optical coherence tomography (OCT) systems provide high-resolution, real-time visualization and/or guidance of microsurgical procedures. While the use of intraoperative OCT in ophthalmology has significantly improved qualitative visualization of surgical procedures inside the eye, new surgical techniques to deliver therapeutics have highlighted the lack of quantitative information available with current-generation intraoperative systems. Indirect viewing systems used for retinal surgeries introduce distortions into the resulting OCT images, making it particularly challenging to make calibrated quantitative measurements.
