Defining the exact histological features of salivary gland malignancies before treatment remains an unsolved problem that compromises the ability to tailor further therapeutic steps individually. Radiomics, a new methodology to extract quantitative information from medical images, could contribute to characterizing the individual cancer phenotype already before treatment in a fast and non-invasive way. Consequently, the standardization and implementation of radiomic analysis in the clinical routine work to predict histology of salivary gland cancer (SGC) could also provide improvements in clinical decision-making.

Background: Ampullary or papillary carcinoma is a malignant tumor arising from the mucosa in the region of the major duodenal papilla, also known as the ampulla of Vater. Uniform treatment recommendations are lacking both for the adjuvant situation and for palliative care.
Methods: A selective literature search was carried out in PubMed in order to identify the most informative publications concerning the epidemiology, clinico-pathological background, and surgical and medical treatment of this condition.

Objectives: We want to investigate whether temperature measurements obtained from MR thermometry are accurate and reliable enough to aid the development and validation of simulation models for Laser-induced interstitial thermotherapy (LITT).
Methods: Laser-induced interstitial thermotherapy (LITT) is applied to ex-vivo porcine livers. An artificial blood vessel is used to study the cooling effect of large blood vessels in proximity to the ablation zone.

Neonates continue to be treated with off-label or unlicensed drugs while in hospital. However, some medications that have previously been used in adults underwent clinical testing and licensure for use with a different indication in the neonatal and pediatric population. Almost always, the marketing of these newly approved substances in a niche indication is accompanied by a steep increase in the price of the compound.

Interleukin-7 (IL-7) is an important cytokine with pivotal pro-survival functions in the adaptive immune system. However, the role of IL-7 in innate immunity is not fully understood. In the present study, the impact of hepatic IL-7 on innate immune cells was assessed by functional experiments as well as in patients with different stages of liver cirrhosis or acute-on-chronic liver failure (ACLF).

Purpose: Diagnostic imaging of Abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) almost exclusively employs CT angiography (CTA) involving X-ray exposure and contrast medium that may harm some patients. Quiescent-Interval Slice Selective MR (QISS-MR) depicts vascular anatomy without radiation or contrast medium. The diagnostic quality of QISS-MRA and CTA were compared in regard to length and diameter measurements in AAA patients.

Objective: The rupture of abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAAs) is associated with high mortality despite surgical developments. The determination of aneurysm diameter allows for follow up of aneurysm growth but fails in precisely predicting aneurysm rupture. In this study, time resolved three dimensional ultrasound (4D ultrasound) based wall motion indices (WMIs) are investigated to see if they are capable of distinguishing between uneven affected regions of the aneurysm wall.

Background: This prospective multicenter study funded by the DEGUM assesses the diagnostic accuracy of standardized contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) for the noninvasive diagnosis of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) in high-risk patients.
Methods: Patients at high risk for HCC with a histologically proven focal liver lesion on B-mode ultrasound were recruited prospectively in a multicenter approach. Clinical and imaging data were entered via online entry forms.

Background And Aim: Acute-on-chronic liver failure (ACLF) is a sinister prognosis, and there is a need for accurate biomarkers and scoring systems to better characterize ACLF patients and predict prognosis. Systemic inflammation and renal failure are hallmarks in ACLF disease development and progression. We hypothesized that the combination of specific inflammatory markers in combination with clinical scores are better predictors of survival than the originally developed CLIF-C acute decompensation (AD) and CLIF-C ACLF scores.

Background & Aims: Acute-on-chronic liver failure (ACLF) is a newly described syndrome, which develops in patients with acute decompensation of cirrhosis, and is characterized by intense systemic inflammation, multiple organ failures and high short-term mortality. The profile of circulating lipid mediators, which are endogenous signaling molecules that play a major role in inflammation and immunity, is poorly characterized in ACLF.
Methods: In the current study, we assessed the profile of lipid mediators by liquid chromatography coupled to tandem mass spectrometry in plasma from patients with acute decompensation of cirrhosis, with (n = 119) and without (n = 127) ACLF, and from healthy controls (n = 18).

Background & Aims: Acute-on-chronic liver failure (ACLF) is characterized by high short-term mortality and systemic inflammation (SI). Recently, different cardiodynamic states were shown to independently predict outcomes in cirrhosis. The relationship between cardiodynamic states, SI, and portal hypertension and their impact on ACLF development remains unclear.

Background And Purpose: This multicenter, phase 3 trial investigates whether the incorporation of concurrent paclitaxel and cisplatin together with a reduced total dose of radiotherapy is superior to standard fluorouracil-cisplatin based CRT.
Materials And Methods: Patients with SCCHN, stage III-IVB, were randomized to receive paclitaxel/cisplatin (PacCis)-CRT (arm A; paclitaxel 20 mg/m on days 2, 5, 8, 11 and 25, 30, 33, 36; cisplatin 20 mg/m, days 1-4 and 29-32; RT to a total dose of 63.6 Gy) or fluorouracil/cisplatin (CisFU)-CRT (arm B; fluorouracil 600 mg/m; cisplatin 20 mg/m, days 1-5 and 29-33; RT: 70.

The incidence of FIX inhibitors in severe hemophilia B (SHB) is not well defined. Frequencies of 3-5% have been reported but most studies to date were small, including patients with different severities, and without prospective follow-up for inhibitor incidence. Study objective was to investigate inhibitor incidence in patients with SHB followed up to 500 exposure days (ED), the frequency of allergic reactions, and the relationship with genotypes.

Objectives: Survival outcomes from a single-arm phase 2 blinatumomab study in patients with minimal residual disease (MRD)-positive B-cell precursor (BCP)-acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (ALL) were compared with those receiving standard of care (SOC) in a historic data set.
Methods: The primary analysis comprised adult Philadelphia chromosome (Ph)-negative patients in first complete haematologic remission (MRD ≥ 10 ). Relapse-free survival (RFS) and overall survival (OS) were compared between blinatumomab- and SOC-treatment groups.

Background & Aims: Acute-on-chronic liver failure (ACLF), which develops in patients with cirrhosis, is characterized by intense systemic inflammation and organ failure(s). Because systemic inflammation is energetically expensive, its metabolic costs may result in organ dysfunction/failure. Therefore, we aimed to analyze the blood metabolome in patients with cirrhosis, with and without ACLF.

Background & Aims: Adequate adherence to hepatitis C virus (HCV) treatment is believed to be a key component of treatment success because non-adherence can potentially result in treatment failure and the emergence of resistant viral variants. This analysis assessed factors associated with non-adherence to glecaprevir/pibrentasvir (G/P) therapy and the impact of non-adherence on sustained virological response at post-treatment week 12 (SVR12) rates in HCV genotype (GT) 1-6-infected patients.
Methods: Adherence was calculated by pill counts at study visits during treatment, and defined as having a lowest treatment adherence of ≥80% and ≤120% at each study visit.
