Background: Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) stimulates the production of specific immunoglobulin (Ig) E and IgG4 antibodies as a hallmark of the Th2 immune response. In this paper, we evaluated the occurrence of atopic diseases in 10-year-old children who were positive for RSV-specific IgG antibodies during infancy.

Methods: The prospective follow-up of 72 children included a physical examination, an International Study of Asthma and Allergies in Childhood (ISAAC) questionnaire and the determination of RSV-specific antibodies and total and allergen-specific IgE.

This prospective, randomized, controlled clinical trial reports clinical, radiographic, histologic and immunohistochemical results of autologous dentin graft (ADG) and its comparison with a mixture of bovine xenograft with autologous bone (BX+AB). After tooth extraction in the esthetic zone of maxilla, the alveolar ridge of 20 patients in the test group was augmented with ADG, while 17 patients in the control group received the combination of BX+AB. Cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) was performed before tooth extraction and after 4 months when a total of 22 bone biopsies were harvested and subjected to histological and immunohistochemical analysis.

Background: Guidelines endorse self-reported functional capacity for preoperative cardiovascular assessment, although evidence for its predictive value is inconsistent. We hypothesised that self-reported effort tolerance improves prediction of major adverse cardiovascular events (MACEs) after noncardiac surgery.

Methods: This is an international prospective cohort study (June 2017 to April 2020) in patients undergoing elective noncardiac surgery at elevated cardiovascular risk.

Diagnosis of prostate cancer poses a significant challenge, due to several different key parameters that need to be evaluated, such as age, history of prostate specific antigen (PSA), clinical examination and more recently magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). The current diagnostic pathway for prostate cancer has resulted in overdiagnosis and overtreatment as well as underdiagnosis and missed diagnoses in many men.

Complex temperature dependence of the dielectric response in simple SmC* phases.

The system under study has a SmA*↔SmC* phase sequence and is described by a basic phenomenological model. However, in contrast to a common approach, changes of the polarisation induced by the external electric field are considered independent of changes of the tilt. As a result, even in the basic model, which does not contain any additional terms usually used to obtain better fits to experimental observations, the frequencies of most of the relaxation modes depend on the temperature non-linearly and their dielectric response is not inversely proportional to the frequency of the mode.

Validation and Cross-Cultural Adaptation of Croatian Self-Evaluation of Communication Experiences after Laryngectomy Questionnaire.

Introduction: The Self-Evaluation of Communication Experiences after Laryngectomy (SECEL) is a 35-item patient-reported questionnaire developed to address the communication needs of patients with laryngectomies. The aim was to translate, cross-culturally adapt, and validate the Croatian version.

Methods: The SECEL was translated from English by two independent translators and back-translated by a native speaker, after which it was approved by an expert committee.

Machine learning intelligence to assess the shear capacity of corroded reinforced concrete beams.

The ability of machine learning (ML) techniques to forecast the shear strength of corroded reinforced concrete beams (CRCBs) is examined in the present study. These ML techniques include artificial neural networks (ANN), adaptive-neuro fuzzy inference systems (ANFIS), decision tree (DT) and extreme gradient boosting (XGBoost). A thorough databank with 140 data points about the shear capacity of CRCBs with various degrees of corrosion was compiled after a review of the literature.

Objective: The aim of this analysis was to estimate 1 year and long-term cost and quality of life of ischaemic stroke patients in Croatia. In addition, we aimed to identify and estimate key categories of costs and outcomes driving the burden of stroke in Croatian healthcare system.

Methods: Data were derived from analysis of the RES-Q Registry for Croatia in 2018 and supplemented with clinical expert opinion and relevant medical, clinical and economic literature to estimate the course of the disease and treatment patterns in Croatian healthcare system.

Validation of the fractional exhaled breath temperature measurement: reference values.

Exhaled breath temperature (EBT) is a known biomarker of inflammation and airways blood flow. As opposed to previous studies, we were able to measure temperature of separate fractions of exhaled breath (fEBT) (those from the peripheral and central airways). The aim was to validate the fEBT measurement method to determine the reference values and the influence of endogenous and exogenous factors on fEBT in healthy subjects.

Immunohistochemical and Histopathological Features of Persistent Gingival Enlargement in Relation to Metal Allergic Sensitisation during Orthodontic Treatment.

This study aimed to analyse the immunohistochemical profile of inflammatory infiltrates in the gingival tissue of patients undergoing orthodontic treatment in relation to patients’ titanium and/or nickel allergy status. Patients with gingival enlargement received initial periodontal therapy, followed by external gingivectomy in the case of persistent gingival enlargement.
