Introduction: The aim of our study was to study the association between end-of-surgery facial nerve stimulation threshold and extent of tumor resection in case of grade IV vestibular schwannomas.
Materials And Methods: Grade IV VSs represent a surgical challenge as a risk/benefit ratio must be considered in balancing a satisfactory extent of resection against a good postoperative functional outcome. We reviewed a cumulative series of 57 patients with large/giant VSs who were operated on by retrosigmoid approach in the period from 2008 to 2018 in two European centers, namely San Filippo Neri Hospital, Rome, Italy and Masaryk Hospital, Usti nad Labem, Czech Republic.
Objectives: COVID-19 might either be entirely asymptomatic or manifest itself with a large variability of disease severity. It is beneficial to identify early patients with a high risk of severe course. The aim of the analysis was to develop a prognostic model for the prediction of the severe course of acute respiratory infection.

Patients with symptomatic internal carotid artery (ICA) occlusion with haemodynamic impairment are at higher risk of ischaemic stroke, and they require treatment. There are two main options: the best medical treatment and an extracranial-intracranial bypass. The aims of this study are to analyse the 30-day and 2-year risk of stroke and death in patients with extracranial-intracranial bypass performed by our department and to compare our results with major published studies.

Background: Diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) is now widely used in neurosurgery to preoperatively delineate the course of the pyramidal tract.
Objective: To evaluate the accuracy of the method by comparison with subcortical electrical stimulation and to evaluate the influence of the distance of the pyramidal tract from the tumor on the resection extent and postoperative clinical deficits.
Methods: A diffusion tensor imaging depiction of the pyramidal tract was used in preoperative planning and intraoperative navigation in 72 cases.

Background: The anatomy and somatotopy of the pyramidal tract during its course in the internal capsule has recently been discussed by many publications. However, the reports on the anatomy of the clinically more important supraventricular portion of the tract are scarce. The objective of this study is to investigate the anatomy and somatotopy of the supraventricular portion of the pyramidal tract.

Background: Functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) is a widely used method for research and visualization of the brain function. However, its clinical use is still limited. Our objective was to study fMRI reliability in localizing the primary hand motor cortex (M1) under pathological conditions caused by the proximity of a brain tumour.
