Early repair of flexor tendon injuries is ideal, but delays are common. We studied the outcomes of flexor tendon repairs delayed from 5 days to 6 months and carried out under wide-awake local anaesthesia with no tourniquet (WALANT). Twenty-four patients (29 fingers) who underwent primary flexor tendon repair on zone II using a four- to six-strand core suture technique, followed by controlled early active motion therapy.

High blood levels of N-terminal pro-brain natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) have been shown in various malignancies. In lung cancer, the importance of NT-proBNP is not clear. In this study, we aimed to investigate the significance of the correlation of NT-proBNP levels in lung cancer with tumor stage, tumor diameter, histopathology, and specific sites of mediastinal metastasis: lymphadenopathy; pericardial, cardiac, major vessel, other mediastinal organ or lymphatic involvement/invasion.

An 87-year-old male with a history of seizure disorder on long-term prophylaxis with valproate and concomitant levetiracetam presented with impaired consciousness and anorexia. The evaluation revealed a markedly elevated blood ammonia level of 518 μmol/L and decreased serum carnitine levels, leading to a diagnosis of valproate-induced hyperammonemic encephalopathy in the absence of liver dysfunction. Discontinuation of valproate, continuation of levetiracetam, and initiation of levocarnitine supplementation and branched-chain amino acid infusion resulted in a durable resolution of symptoms.

Introduction: To the best of our knowledge, a possible predictive relationship between the systemic coagulation-inflammation index (SCI) and arteriovenous fistula (AVF) failure following AVF creation has not yet been examined. We therefore designed this study to examine the predictive ability of SCI on postoperative early AVF failure in patients undergoing primary radiocephalic AVF operation.

Methods: A total of 189 patients who underwent primary radiocephalic AVF operation for hemodialysis access were included in this retrospective observational cohort study, and then divided into two groups according to whether AVF failure occurred within the first 3 months after the operation; as failed AVF group ( = 44) and non-failed AVF group ( = 145).
