Article Synopsis
  • - The study aimed to analyze the effectiveness of adding pertuzumab (P) to trastuzumab (H) and neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NCT) in achieving pathological complete response (pCR) in HER2+ breast cancer patients.
  • - Involving 1,528 female patients, the results showed that those receiving NCT-HP had a significantly higher pCR rate (66.4%) compared to those on NCT-H (56.8%) and fewer relapses (4.5% vs. 12.2%).
  • - Key factors predicting pCR included invasive ductal carcinoma type, lower tumor grades, and the use of paclitaxel, reinforcing the benefits of adding pertuzumab in

Turk Kardiyol Dern Ars

December 2021

Center for Drug Research and Development and Pharmacokinetic Applications, Ege University, İzmir, Turkey.

Objective: The D-SPIRIT registry is designed to investigate the safety and effectiveness of dabigatran etexilate in patients with atrial fibrillation in routine clinical practice.

Methods: D-SPIRIT is the first national, multicenter, prospective, observational, postmarketing registry that investigates the usage of dabigatran in real life. A total of 326 noveloral anticoagulant-eligible patients with atrial fibrillation who have been taking dabigatran etexilate therapy for stroke prevention at least 6 months from 9 different centers were enrolled into the registry.

Purpose: The present study evaluates procedure-associated pain and side effects in the gastrointestinal-genitourinary system in patients with early-stage prostate cancer who were treated with image-guided radiotherapy (IGRT), accompanied by an ultrasound-guided transrectal implantation of fiducial markers, without local anesthesia.

Materials And Methods: A total of 46 patients who referred to our clinics between 2012 and 2017 with a diagnosis of early-stage prostate cancer were included in the study. Before undergoing radiotherapy, all patients were implanted with three intraprostatic fiducial markers through the ultrasound-guided transrectal approach without local anesthesia.

'Mini-Microsuture Technique' for Phonosurgery: A New Simplified Method.

Ann Otol Rhinol Laryngol

April 2021

Otorhinolaryngology, Head&Neck Surgery Department, University of Health Sciences, Izmir Tepecik Training and Research Hospital, İzmir, Turkey.

Introduction: Phonomicrolaryngeal surgery involves the surgical treatment of benign disorders of the vocal folds. Postoperative scar tissue in vocal fold mucosa is undesired because mucosal hypodynamia may lead to prolonged impairment in voice quality. This study aims to present and share the outcomes of a new endolaryngeal suture technique.

A Novel Surgical Technique for Bilateral Vocal Fold Paralysis: Microlaryngeal Posterior Glottoplasty.

J Voice

March 2022

Otorhinolaryngology, Head&Neck Surgery Department., University of Health Sciences, Izmir Tepecik Training and Research Hospital, İzmir, Turkey. Electronic address:

Objectives/hypothesis: Bilateral vocal fold paralysis (BVFP) is a clinical condition that may require emergency intervention that is characterized by airway obstruction. The main aspect to be taken under consideration in treatment is to preserve the vocal functions as much as possible while also ensuring an open airway. This study aims to present the preliminary results of a novel surgical method that we refer to as "posterior glottoplasty," which has been performed on BVFP patients to minimize phonation disorder and achieve a better respiratory function.

Osteomas are generally benign tumors of the skull that affect all age groups and are diagnosed in the fourth or fifth decade of life, and are rare in childhood. Surgical resection is curative and malignant transformation is very rare. A 12-yearboy who had undergone a craniotomy for resection of a parietal osteoma four years ago, followed by a cranioplasty with methylmethacrylate bone cement, presented to our clinic with an expanding mass overlying the cranioplasty.

Our experiences and suggestions with PEEK marker use in prostate cancer radiotherapy.

Contemp Oncol (Pozn)

April 2018

Department of Radiation Oncology, Izmir Medical Park Hospital, Izmir, Turkey.

Polyether ether ketone (PEEK), a material commonly used in industry, has recently been introduced in medicine. The use of PEEK in place of gold in gold marker implantation for prostate radiotherapy has been suggested to be advantageous because it is associated with a lower level of artefacts. In this study, we present a disadvantage of this newly introduced method, which has not yet been defined in the literature, and offer a solution for this problem to shed light on this issue, which has not yet been completely understood.

Introduction: Chronic myeloproliferative disorders (CMPD) are chronic myeloid hematological disorders, characterized by increased myeloid cell proliferation and fibrosis. Impaired apoptotic mechanisms, increased cell proliferation, uncontrolled hematopoietic cell proliferation and myeloaccumulation may contribute to the pathogenesis of CMPD. The aim of our study was to show the possible role of FAS/FASL gene polymorphisms in CMPD pathogenesis and investigate the association with clinical parameters and susceptibility to disease.
