Effect of Guided Imagery on Patient Comfort, Vital Signs, Pain, Anxiety, and Satisfaction in Cancer Patients Undergoing Port Catheterization With Local Anesthesia: A Prospective Randomized Controlled Study.

Background: Port catheter placement is usually an operation performed under local anesthesia. Being conscious during the interventions performed with local anesthesia can lead to anxiety and stress.

Objective: The aim of this study was to determine the effect of guided imagery performed before and during the procedure on vital signs and comfort, pain, anxiety, and satisfaction levels in patients with cancer undergoing port catheterization with local anesthesia.

Empirical cefepime+vancomycin versus ceftazidime+vancomycin versus meropenem+vancomycin in the treatment of healthcare-associated meningitis: results of the multicenter ephesus study.

Background: Herein, we analyzed the efficacy of main antibiotic therapy regimens in the treatment of healthcare-associated meningitis (HCAM).

Materials/methods: This retrospective cohort study was conducted in 18 tertiary-care academic hospitals Turkey, India, Egypt and Romania. We extracted data and outcomes of all patients with post-neurosurgical meningitis cases fulfilling the study inclusion criteria and treated with empirical therapy between December 2006-September 2018.

Complications After Intramedullary Fixation Treatment of Patients With Osteogenesis Imperfecta: Telescopic Versus Non-Telescopic Implants.

Introduction The treatment of musculoskeletal pathologies in osteogenesis imperfecta aims to provide the maximum possible function by preventing bone fractures and progressive deformities. Despite the development of implants used in the surgical treatment of osteogenesis imperfecta, there is no consensus on the most appropriate method for the correction of skeletal deformities. The aim of this study was to compare telescopic and non-telescopic implants in terms of postoperative complications.

The relationship between sarcopenia and serum irisin and TNF-α levels in newly diagnosed cancer patients.

Objective: Sarcopenia in patients with cancer makes patients physically weak and adversely affects their compliance with treatment. In this study, we investigated the relationship between sarcopenia in patients with cancer and circulating irisin and tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α) levels.

Material And Method: A total of 141 patients with different types of newly diagnosed cancer were divided into two groups, sarcopenia (n = 72) and non-sarcopenia (n = 69) groups.

Methods: This national, multicenter study included patients' data from the TURKBIO Registry. Demographics, clinical characteristics, disease duration and activity, comorbidities, and treatments were analyzed.

Women in Turkey started receiving neurosurgery specialty training later than men, as was the case in other parts of the world. However, compared to other countries, Turkey saw the admission of women in neurosurgery sooner, with Aysima Altınok who obtained her specialization in 1959.

Assessment of oxygen extraction rate changes following red blood cell transfusion in the intensive care unit: a protocol for a prospective observational non-interventional study.

Introduction: Haemoglobin transfusion thresholds have been used in the intensive care unit (ICU) to guide red blood cell transfusion (RBCT) decisions. Recent research has also focused on physiological indicators of tissue oxygenation as trigger points for blood transfusion. This study aims to assess the oxygen extraction rate (OER) as a critical indicator of the oxygen delivery-consumption balance in tissues and investigate its potential as a reliable trigger for blood transfusion in ICU patients by analysing clinical outcomes.

The utility of standing knee radiographs for detection of lipohemarthrosis: comparison with supine horizontal beam radiographs.

Objectives: Lipohemarthrosis is a key finding in acute trauma patients and indicates an intra-articular fracture. The horizontal beam lateral radiography with supine position is known to be the best technique to demonstrate knee lipohemarthrosis. Our main purpose was to compare the sensitivity of supine and standing lateral knee radiographs to detect lipohemarthrosis.

Impact of tissue sampling on detection of venous invasion in colorectal cancer: a prospective analysis.

Aims: Venous invasion (VI) is a powerful yet under-reported prognostic factor in colorectal cancer (CRC). Efforts to improve its detection have largely focused upon histological assessment, with less attention paid to tissue-sampling strategies. This study aimed to prospectively determine the number of tumour blocks required to optimise VI detection in CRC resections.

Importance of Preoperative Vertical Geometric Analysis in Surgery for Anterior Communicating Artery Aneurysm.

Objective: In this study, we analyzed the vertical geometry of the anterior communicating artery (AComA) complex with the aim to improve the surgical site orientation during aneurysm operations. Background: Tumor size is an independent predictor of lymph node metastasis and survival in the endometrioid type endometrial adenocarcinoma (EC). However, some of the ECs tend to grow towards the cavity in the polypoid pattern, which can reach very large sizes. In this study, we aimed to analyze the association of growing in the polypoid pattern of the tumor with the proportion of lymph node metastasis and extrauterine tumor spread.

Diagnosis of intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy (ICP) is often decided upon with typical pruritus supported by elevated serum bile acid levels. However, there is confusion regarding the absolute reference range for serum bile acid . To confirm the utility of Placental Strain Ratio (PSR) measurement as a marker for the diagnosis of ICP and to reveal the extent to which it is correlated with serum bile acid concentration.

The Fate of Reoperation After Proximal Femur Fracture Surgery in Elderly Population.

Introduction: The overall complication rate after proximal femur fracture surgery is high. This study aims to define the reoperation reasons and outcomes of reoperations after proximal femur fracture surgery in elderly patients.

Methods: This retrospective cohort study included patients over 75 years of age who underwent surgery for an intertrochanteric femur fracture and femoral neck fracture between 2014 and 2021.

Trimetazidine provides protection against diabetic polyneuropathy in rats via modulation of soluble HMGB1.

Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the neuroprotective efficacy of trimetazidine (TMZ) in a diabetic neuropathy model of the sciatic nerve.

Materials And Methods: We performed intraperitoneal (IP) single-dose streptozotocin (STZ) injection for a diabetes mellitus neuropathy model in 24 rats; 8 rats were in the control group, and no chemical administration was performed. 24 diabetic rats were randomly divided into 3 groups: Group 1 rats (n = 8; diabetes and saline groups) were given 1 ml/kg saline treatment.

Ultrasound guided versus blinded injection in trigger finger treatment: a prospective controlled study.

Background: Trigger finger is a common disease with a lifetime prevalence of 2%. One of the frequently preferred non-surgical treatments is blinded injection around the A1 pulley. Reparative, Neuroprotective and Anti-neurodegenerative Effects of Granulocyte Colony Stimulating Factor in Radiation-Induced Brain Injury Model.

Objective: This animal model aimed to compare the rat group that received brain irradiation and did not receive additional treatment (only saline) and the rat group that underwent brain irradiation and received Granulocyte colony stimulating factor (G-CSF) treatment. In addition, the effects of G-CSF on brain functions were examined by magnetic resonance (MR) imaging and histopathologically.

Introduction: COVID-19 pandemic has led to an increased rate of intensive care unit (ICU) stays. Intermediate care units (IMCUs) are a useful resource for the management of patients with severe COVID-19 that do not require ICU admission. In this research, we aimed to determine survival outcomes and parameters predicting mortality in patients who have been admitted to IMCU.

Evaluation of plasma soluble urokinase plasminogen activator receptor (SuPAR) levels in ulcerative colitis.

Background And Study Aim: Soluble urokinase plasminogen activator receptor (SuPAR), a soluble form of the urokinase-type plasminogen activator receptor, is a biomarker produced by macrophages, monocytes, neutrophils, active T cells, endothelial cells, and circulating tumor cells. SuPAR is a novel biomarker showing altered inflammation in many inflammatory diseases. This study aims to investigate the SuPAR level in ulcerative colitis (UC) patients, and to evaluate the SuPAR level in active, and remission patients.

Diagnostic Efficacy of Ultrasonography, Doppler Ultrasonography and Elastography in the Evaluation of Suspected Malignant Lymph Nodes.

Aim: In this prospective study, the efficiency of imaging findings was investigated by comparing the histopathological results of lymph nodes with Doppler and ultrasound features and elasticity scores.

Material And Method: A total of 100 cervical or axillary lymph nodes with a suspected malignancy or whose size did not decrease after treatment were examined. In addition to the demographic data of the patients, B-mode ultrasound, Doppler ultrasound, and elastography features of the lymph nodes were evaluated prospectively.

From dyspepsia to complicated peptic ulcer: new markers in diagnosis and prognosis.

Objective: Peptic ulcer disease (PUD) may present with different clinical findings, ranging from mild dyspeptic complaints to mortal complications, such as gastrointestinal system perforation. The aim of this study was to investigate the potential blood parameters that can be used in the diagnosis of PUD and prediction of complications.

Patients And Methods: A total of 80 patients with dyspeptic complaints, 83 patients with PUD, and 108 patients with peptic ulcer perforation (PUP) who were treated in our hospital between January 2017 and December 2020 were included in the study.

The role of collagen type I/III ratio in the etiology of sacrococcygeal pilonidal.

Objective: The purpose of this study is to investigate whether there was a difference between the midline skin and the healthy skin in the lateral by means of total amount of collagen and Type I/III ratio which was the indicator of the collagen structure.

Material And Methods: Fifty patients with pilonidal sinus disease were enrolled. Samples were prepared from the midline skin of the sinus where the holes were located and lateral skin of the resected material.
