Background: Carbapenem-resistant Acinetobacter baumannii (CRAB) infections are one of the most common causes of nosocomial infections and have high mortality rates due to difficulties in treatment. In this study, the in vitro synergistic interactions of the colistin (CT)-meropenem (MEM) combination and patient clinical outcomes were compared in CRAB-infected patients that receive CT-MEM antimicrobial combination therapy. In addition, in vitro synergistic interactions of MEM-ertapenem (ETP), MEM-fosfomycin (FF) and CT-FF antimicrobial combinations were investigated.

The aim was to evaluate the effect of stress distribution on vertical, horizontal, and oblique forces on the tooth model after reattaching the fragments of the maxillary incisor with vertical root fracture (VRF) using different materials, by 3D finite element analysis (FEA). Tooth with a root canal, spongious, and cortical bone models were designed. VRF was modeled on a tooth with 4 different re-attachment models: Group 1: dual-cure cement (DC)+fiber reinforced composite (FRC), Group 2: DC+polyethylene fiber, Group 3: DC+glass fiber, and Group 4:DC.

İstanbul University - Cerrahpaşa, Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine, Department of Pediatric Nephrology, İstanbul, Türkiye.

Article Synopsis
  • Two devastating earthquakes in Türkiye on February 6, 2023, resulted in significant injuries to 903 children, with a focus on crush syndrome-related acute kidney injury (Crush-AKI) and mortality.
  • The study tracked various factors, including the time under rubble, treatment protocols, and patient outcomes, revealing that Crush-AKI developed in 36% of the patients, and over half required dialysis.
  • Key findings included that serum levels of creatine phosphokinase above 20,950 U/L and inadequate initial intravenous fluid volume were linked to Crush-AKI, and most deaths occurred among those with Crush-AKI within the first four days of admission.

Objective: The objective of this study was to assess the intraoperative accuracy and feasibility of 3D-printed marker-based mixed-reality neurosurgical navigation for spinal intradural pathologies.

Methods: The authors produced 3D segmentations of spinal intradural tumors with neighboring structures by using combined CT and MRI, and preoperative registration of pathology and markers was successfully performed. A patient-specific, surgeon-facilitated application for mobile devices was built, and a mixed-reality light detection and ranging (LIDAR) camera on a mobile device was employed for cost-effective, high-accuracy spinal neuronavigation.

Speech recognition datasets for low-resource Congolese languages.

Data Brief

February 2024

Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Izmir Demokrasi University, Izmir, Turkey.

Large pre-trained Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR) models have shown improved performance in low-resource languages due to the increased availability of benchmark corpora and the advantages of transfer learning. However, only a limited number of languages possess ample resources to fully leverage transfer learning. In such contexts, benchmark corpora become crucial for advancing methods.

Objectives: Early, accurate diagnosis is crucial for the prognosis of patients with soft tissue sarcomas. To this end, standardization of imaging algorithms, technical requirements, and reporting is therefore a prerequisite. Since the first European Society of Musculoskeletal Radiology (ESSR) consensus in 2015, technical achievements, further insights into specific entities, and the revised WHO-classification (2020) and AJCC staging system (2017) made an update necessary.

Objectives: The detrimental effects of high fructose consumption on metabolic health have been extensively studied. However, limited research has focused on the impact of fructose intake on neuroprotective mechanisms, specifically the expression of insulin receptor (INSR) and glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor (GLP-1R) in the hippocampus. Understanding the effects of fructose on these neuroprotective molecules can provide valuable insights into the potential role of fructose in hippocampal dysfunction.
