A Geometric Morphometric Study on the Rat Mandible.

The aim of the study was to investigate the shape of the mandible in Wistar albino rats using the geometric morphometric method. However, 'Is the shape of the mandible different in rats depending on gender?' the question formed the hypothesis of the study. For this purpose, a total of 52 rat mandibles, 31 female and 21 male rats, were used in the study.

Determining food choice motivations in Turkish adults: sustainable and healthy eating behavior, ecological footprint awareness, and food insecurity perspective.

Background: Revealing motivations in food choice and investigating the potential role of sustainable healthy eating behavior, ecological footprint awareness and food security in food choice are important points for a sustainable life. This study was conducted with 5285 adults aged 19-65 residing in Turkey to investigate their food choice motivations in terms of sustainable and healthy eating behavior, ecological footprint awareness, and the food insecurity perspective.

Methods: In this context, the Food Choice Questionnaire, the Sustainable and Healthy Eating Behaviors Scale, the Awareness Scale for Reducing Ecological Footprint and the Household Food Insecurity Access Scale were used.

Transauricular vagal nerve stimulation suppresses inflammatory responses in the gut and brain in an inflammatory bowel disease model.

Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) encompasses Crohn's disease (CD) and ulcerative colitis (UC), is a major health problem on a global scale and its treatment is unsatisfactory. We aimed to investigate the effects of transauricular vagal nerve stimulation (tVNS) on inflammation in rats with IBD induced by trinitrobenzene sulfonic acid (TNBS). A total of 36 adult female Sprague-Dawley rats were given TNBS, or vehicle, and tVNS, or sham, every other day for 30 min for 10 days.

Uncomplicated Type B Aortic Dissection: A European Multicentre Cross-Sectional Evaluation.

Background: A multicentre European randomized control trial - European Uncomplicated Type B Aortic Repair (EU-TBAR) is being developed to compare pre-emptive thoracic endovascular aortic repair (TEVAR) with custom-made devices versus conventional optimal medical therapy. The pretrial set-up is confluent on different pillars, including evaluation of 1) European activity, trends, and governance; 2) outcome reporting; and 3) cost evaluation. This article aimed to demonstrate the observational cross-sectional survey results from participating centers and highlight the risk assessment, activity, practices, and governance of uncomplicated type B aortic dissection (uTBAD).

A New Concept in Peripheral Nerve Repair: Incorporating the Tunica Adventitia.

Background:  Pedicled, prefabricated, and free nerve flaps have several drawbacks, such as requiring microsurgical anastomosis, the need for secondary operations and the risk of developing thrombosis. In this study, we aimed to vascularize the repaired nerve in a single session by establishing a connection between the epineurium of the repaired median nerve and the tunica adventitia of the brachial artery.

Methods:  The technique was performed on the median nerves of a total of 42 rats over 13 weeks.

Effects of virtual reality application on pain, anxiety, and vital signs due to port catheter needle insertion: Randomized controlled study.

Purpose: This study aims to examine the effects of virtual reality applications on pain, anxiety, and vital signs during port catheter needle insertion in adult cancer patients.

Methods: The research followed a randomized controlled design as intervention and control groups. In the intervention group, patients received virtual reality sessions with five images in addition to routine procedures during the port catheter needle insertion.

Comparison of clinical results between transpulmonary thermodilution monitoring and conventional methods in cardiac surgery: An observational study.

The Pulse Index Contour Continuous Cardiac Output (PICCO) module provides advanced and continuous monitoring of cardiac output through the use of arterial pulse contour analysis and transpulmonary thermodilution. The objective of this study was to compare the early postoperative outcomes of patients who were monitored using the conventional method and the pulse contour analysis method. A prospective observational study was conducted involving 45 patients who underwent cardiac surgery between 2020 and 2022.

Development of industry in the modern world, the number of individuals working in noisy environments is increasing with each passing day. Noise causes an increase in the incidence of cardioembolic events, yet the relevant underlying pathophysiology remains unclear. In this study, we aimed to investigate the relationship between signal peptide and complement C1r/C1s, Uegf, and Bmp1-epidermal growth factor domain-containing protein-1 (SCUBE-1) in the pathophysiology of cardioembolic events in individuals exposed to noisy environments.

Magnitude-space representations in the n-back task: Long-term representations of magnitudes alter the working memory performance.

Prior research has predominantly examined the role of working memory (WM) in tasks involving numerical information and spatial properties, such as memorizing number sequences and performing parity judgment and magnitude comparison. In contrast to focusing solely on the effect of WM on number judgment tasks, our study investigates how magnitude-space associations affect WM task performance, emphasizing long-term representations, specifically the concept of mental number line (MNL) compatibility (small items on the left, large items on the right) in long-term memory (LTM). Moving from the idea of representations within LTM contribute to the functioning of WM during task execution, we explore the effects of congruent, incongruent, and negative congruent numerical and non-numerical magnitude-space associations on magnitude-based 1-back (low WM load) and 2-back (high WM load) tasks.

Efficacy and prognostic factors of anti-PD1 and nivolumab-ipilimumab therapy in advanced melanoma patients resistant to prior ICI treatment.

Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) have significantly improved the five-year survival rate for advanced melanoma. However, many patients exhibit resistance to ICI therapy. This study evaluated the efficacy and prognostic factors of anti-PD-1 (Group A) and nivolumab-ipilimumab (Group B) therapy in patients with advanced melanoma who were resistant to prior ICI therapy.

Flexibility of intrinsic neural timescales during distinct behavioral states.

Recent neuroimaging studies demonstrate a heterogeneity of timescales prevalent in the brain's ongoing spontaneous activity, labeled intrinsic neural timescales (INT). At the same time, neural timescales also reflect stimulus- or task-related activity. The relationship of the INT during the brain's spontaneous activity with their involvement in task states including behavior remains unclear.

Effects of 1-methylcyclopropene, methyl jasmonate and salicylic acid on physicochemical properties and wooliness of nectarine fruit during cold storage.

Background: Owing to its high perishability, the market life of nectarine fruit is very short. Cold storage is a principal approach to limit post-harvest quality loss in nectarines. The objective of this research was to evaluate the impact of postharvest methyl jasmonate (MeJA), salicylic acid (SA) and 1-methylcyclopropene (1-MCP) on quality properties of nectarine fruit, specifically weight loss, firmness, phenolics and antioxidant activity, following cold storage and subsequent shelf life.

A combined therapy of meropenem-ZnO nanoparticles efficiently eliminates carbapenem-resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae biofilms, with reduced nephrotoxicity (in vitro).

In response to the World Health Organization's research agenda of antimicrobial resistance in human health, this study appraised the antibacterial and antibiofilm synergistic activity of meropenem and ZnO nanoparticles (ZnO-NPs) combination against carbapenem-resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae (CRKP). The minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of meropenem in combination was found to be ~1/12 of its MIC alone. The results of microtiter dilution assay showed that the combination was more efficient in reducing the biofilm biomass than meropenem alone or ZnO-NPs alone.

Evaluation of the relationships between psychiatric comorbidity and seizure semiology in psychogenic non-epileptic seizure patients.

Psychogenic non-epileptic seizures (PNES) are episodic events that bear a resemblance to epileptic seizures (ES) in their outward manifestations, yet they lack pathological electroencephalographic (EEG) activity during the ictal phase. In the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual 5th Edition (DSM-5), PNES is designated as "Functional Neurological Symptom Disorder with seizures". Individuals diagnosed with PNES commonly present with concurrent psychiatric disorders, notably depression, panic disorder, and chronic anxiety.

Relationship between serum levels of ANGPTL8, Apo C2, and human placental lactogen (hPL) in patients with gestational diabetes mellitus: Interaction of LPL regulators with hPL, a possible contributing factor to insulin resistance.

Introduction: Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is defined as glucose intolerance during pregnancy. We aimed to investigate the potential effects of betatrophin and ApoC2 in GDM, focusing on their roles in LPL (lipoprotein lipase) regulation and their relationship with hPL to elucidate the possible impact of hPL on lipid metabolism and its potential contribution to the development of GDM.

Methods: Thirty pregnant women with normal glucose tolerance and 29 with gestational diabetes mellitus (diagnosed by 75g OGTT between 24 and 28 weeks) were included in the study.

Analyzing emergency department presentations linked to secondary earthquake effects.

Objective: The earthquakes that struck Türkiye on February 6, 2023, significantly impacted the province of Hatay. A portion of the patients presenting to emergency departments (ED) following the earthquake were exposed to secondary effects without experiencing direct physical trauma. This study aims to evaluate the demographic, clinical, and psychosocial characteristics of patients presenting to the ED during the early post-earthquake period due to secondary effects, as well as to examine the challenges encountered during this process.

What should be the optimal dose of post-transplantation cyclophosphamide for GVHD prophylaxis in allogeneic stem cell transplantation?

Objectives: In this study, we aimed to compare the engraftment days, graft versus host disease (GVHD) development, relapse and overall survival (OS) rates in patients using variable intensity conditioning regimens with two different post-transplant cyclophosphamide (PTCy) doses for hematological malignancies.

Material And Methods: We retrospectively analyzed 162 patients who have had PTCy at a dose of 25 mg/kg × 2 and 50 mg/kg × 2 between 2018 and 2024. Patients were divided in 2 groups; PTCy dose with 25 mg/kg × 2 (Group 1, n = 45) and PTCy dose with 50 mg/kg × 2 (Group 2, n = 117).

Relationship Between Posttraumatic Growth and Illness Uncertainty in Young Women With Breast Cancer: The Mediating Role of Self-compassion.

Background: The recovery process for young women with breast cancer is influenced by several factors, including the uncertainty of disease, posttraumatic growth, and self-compassion.

Objective: To examine the association between illness uncertainty and posttraumatic growth in young women with breast cancer and to determine the mediating role of self-compassion in this association.

Methods: This cross-sectional, descriptive and correlational study was conducted in Western Turkey between September 2023 and December 2023.

Measurement Properties and Determinants of the 6-Minute Walk Test in Patients with Lower Limb Lymphedema.

The aim of this study was to investigate the validity and reliability and identify determinants of the 6-minute walk test (6MWT) in patients with lower limb lymphedema (LLL). The study included 28 patients with LLL and 28 healthy subjects. To investigate the convergent validity and determinants of the 6MWT, patients were assessed using the following measurements: circumference measurement for lymphedema severity, hand-held dynamometry for muscle strength, time up and go for functional mobility, five-time sit-to-stand test for functional lower extremity strength, Lower Extremity Functional Scale for lower extremity functionality, Lymphedema Life Impact Scale for quality of life, and International Physical Activity Questionnaire-Short Form for physical activity level.
