Several studies have demonstrated the safety and feasibility of short (3-6 months) and very short duration (< 2 months) dual antiplatelet therapy (DAPT) in patients with a durable-polymer drug-eluting stent (DP-DES). However, the clinical importance of using very short duration DAPT has yet to be established in patients with a biodegradable polymer drug-eluting stent (BP-DES). The aim of this REIWA registry (multicenter and prospective registry; investigation of clinical outcomes of patients treated with short duration dual antiplatelet therapy after implantation of biodresorbable-polymer drug-eluting stent: a multicenter, prospective registry from Iwate medical university affiliated hospitals) is to determine the safety and feasibility of using 1-month DAPT followed by P2Y12 inhibitor monotherapy in patients after BP-DES implantation.

Background: Natural disasters have long-term negative impacts on the health and socioenvironmental conditions of a population, affecting the physical environment as well as the relationships within the community, including social networks. Mothers in post-disaster communities may have difficulty receiving social support not only from family members and relatives but also from members of their community, such as people in their neighborhoods. This study focused on mothers with infants and preschool-aged children in post-disaster communities.

It has been reported that pain relief for patients with cancer is suboptimal in Japan. This has been mainly attributed to inadequate dissemination of the World Health Organization (WHO) guidelines for cancer pain management. To better understand this problem, we reviewed how 6 hospital palliative care teams (HPCTs) used the WHO guidelines for unrelieved pain in a 1-year audit that included 534 patients.

Immunoglobulin A (IgA) nephropathy is the most common form of primary glomerulonephritis worldwide. The pathogenesis of IgA nephropathy is unknown, but it is certain that some genetic factors are involved in susceptibility to the disease. Employing a large-scale, case-control association study using gene-based single-nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) markers, we previously reported four candidate genes.

When the automated analyzer was first introduced, abnormally high values of urine creatinine and abnormally low values of serum creatinine were seen. It was shown that evaporation of the reducing agent stabilizer(sulfurous acid), which is present in the serum iron measurement kit, was occurring and that the observed low values of serum creatinine were due to consumption of hydrogen peroxide by gasifying sulfurous acid. After the cause was elucidated, the abnormal lowering of creatinine values was prevented.

For the treatment of 11 patients with hyperacute embolic occlusion of major cerebral arteries (ten with occlusion of middle cerebral artery and one with occlusion of basilar artery), TCDenhanced thrombolysis (TCDET) was performed in combination with ultrasound irradiation, using diagnostic transcranial Doppler (TCD) (TC2-64B: 2MHz, 100mW/cm(2), pulsed wave) (TCDET group), and the effectiveness of this procedure was compared with that of local intra-arterial fibrinolysis (LIF) in 45 patients with embolic occlusion of the middle cerebral artery (LIF group). Regarding dose of TPA, the LIF group used 1046.7 +/- 607.

Immunoglobulin A nephropathy (IgAN) is a primary glomerulonephritis of common incidence world-wide whose etiology and pathogenesis remain unresolved, although genetic factors are assumed to be involved in the development and progression of this disease. To identify genetic variations that might confer susceptibility to IgAN, we performed a case-control association study involving 389 Japanese IgAN patients and 465 controls. Genome-wide analysis of approximately 80,000 single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) identified a significant association between IgAN and six SNPs located in the PIGR (polymeric immuoglobulin receptor) gene at chromosome 1q31-q41.
