Although several lines of evidence have suggested that sex steroids influence olfaction, little is known about the cellular basis of steroid-metabolizing enzymes in the olfactory system. Thus, we aimed to examine gene expression and immunolocalization of four sex steroid-metabolizing enzymes in the olfactory mucosa (OM) of albino rats; steroid side chain-cleaving enzyme (P450scc), 17β-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase type 1 (17β-HSD-1), 17β-HSD type 2 (17β-HSD-2), and aromatase. P450scc is known to catalyze conversion from cholesterol to pregnenolone.

We recently established MSC lines, [transforming growth factor-β (TGF-β)-responsive SG‑2 cells, bone morphogenetic protein (BMP)-responsive SG‑3 cells, and TGF-β/BMP-non-responsive SG‑5 cells], derived from the bone marrow of green fluorescent protein-transgenic mice. In this study we monitored protein dynamics in response to cisplatin, 5-fluorouracil, and irinotecan with different concentrations and administration modes using "reverse-phase" protein arrays (RPPAs) in order to gain comprehensive insight into the protein dynamics induced by genotoxic drugs. Among 666 protein time-courses, 38% exhibited an increasing trend, 32% exhibited a steady decrease, and 30% fluctuated within 24 h after drug exposure.
