The aim of the research was to study the framework ability of the fibrous non-woven PCL matrices we've created during the restoration of bone tissue. There were performed some spectroscopic, histological and immunohistochemical, radiological and clinical analyses of the effectiveness of microfibrous non-woven PCL polycaprolactone matrices developed by us, in the work. The obtained results of morphological studies of bone tissue in the experiment of the implantation of a fibrous matrix indicated an increase in reparative osteogenesis in the form of an increase in osteoid areas up to 34.

FEATURES OF COL1A1 EXPRESSION IN BREAST CANCER TISSUE OF YOUNG PATIENTS.

Exp Oncol

December 2023

R.E. Kavetsky Institute of Experimental Pathology, Oncology, and Radiobiology, National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Kyiv, Ukraine..

Background: In the last decades, the incidence of breast cancer (BCa) in young women has been increasing steadily. The quantitative indicators of expression of collagen, which play important role in stromal microenvironment, and their association with the age and survival rates of BCa patients have not been yet definitively clarified.

Aim: To investigate the relationship between the COL1A1 gene expression at the mRNA and protein levels in BCa tissue and the clinicopatological features and survival rates of BCa patients of different age groups.

Choledochal cysts are rare congenital anomalies of the biliary system, mostly diagnosed during childhood. In adults, a lower incidence and symptom overlap with more common biliary conditions may hinder the diagnosis. This case study presents a 50-year-old female patient who presented with abdominal pain and multiple gallstones on ultrasonography which also showed a dilation of the common bile duct, presumably left by a stone that had already passed.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates delayed adverse events (DAEs) from COVID-19 vaccinations in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) compared to other autoimmune diseases and healthy individuals, with a focus on data scarcity impacting vaccine hesitancy among immunocompromised individuals.
  • The research, conducted through a global online survey of over 7200 individuals, found that SLE patients experienced significantly more major DAEs and hospitalizations post-vaccination than healthy controls and had higher rates of severe rashes compared to those with other rheumatic diseases.
  • The findings suggest a need for careful monitoring of SLE patients post-vaccination due to their elevated risk of adverse events, particularly after receiving the Moderna vaccine.

Scientific research in the field of physiology and pathology of the umbilical cord is quite limited and imperfect. The purpose of the study was to evaluate the histological architecture of the pathological umbilical cord and investigate the relationship between the main parameters and placental postnatal macromorphometric characteristics, which serve as a reflection of placental dysfunction. Four groups of patients were included, each undergoing a postnatal histological and topographic examination of the umbilical cord: Wharton's jelly edema (10 samples), velamentous cord insertion (10 samples), single umbilical artery (10 samples), and physiological pregnancy (10 samples).

Background: Tumor samples from the phase III IMpower010 study were used to compare two programmed death-ligand 1 (PD-L1) immunohistochemistry assays (VENTANA SP263 and Dako 22C3) for identification of PD-L1 patient subgroups (negative, positive, low, and high expression) and their predictive value for adjuvant atezolizumab compared with best supportive care (BSC) in resectable early-stage non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC).

Methods: PD-L1 expression was assessed by the SP263 assay, which measured the percentage of tumor cells with any membranous PD-L1 staining, and the 22C3 assay, which scored the percentage of viable tumor cells showing partial or complete membranous PD-L1 staining.

Results: When examining the concordance at the PD-L1-positive threshold (SP263: tumor cell (TC)≥1%; 22C3: tumor proportion score (TPS)≥1%), the results were concordant between assays for 83% of the samples.

Diabetes mellitus in rheumatic diseases: clinical characteristics and treatment considerations.

Rheumatol Int

December 2023

Department of Biology and Biochemistry, South Kazakhstan Medical Academy, Shymkent, Kazakhstan.

New pathophysiological insights are now available on comorbidities in rheumatic diseases (RDs). Several nationwide studies point to the fact that comorbid diabetes mellitus (DM) increases the risk of adverse outcomes in patients with various RDs. Genetic factors, intensity of systemic inflammation, anti-inflammatory potential of therapeutic agents, and duration of RDs have been insufficiently explored in the context of comorbidities.

Data on short-term safety of COVID-19 vaccination in patients with systemic sclerosis (SSc) were explored previously in the first COVID-19 vaccination in autoimmune diseases (COVAD) survey conducted in 2021. However, delayed adverse events (ADEs) (occurring > 7 days post-vaccination) are poorly characterized in these patients with SSc. In this study, we analysed delayed COVID-19 vaccine-related ADEs among patients with SSc, other systemic autoimmune and inflammatory disorders (SAIDs) and healthy controls (HCs) using data from the second COVAD study conducted in 2022.
