Background: Patients with advanced fibrosis are at risk for developing hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) even after hepatitis C virus (HCV) elimination. We previously reported that serum fucosylated haptoglobin (Fuc-Hp) levels increase as the disease progresses from chronic hepatitis to cirrhosis and then HCC. However, it remains unclear whether serum Fuc-Hp levels can stratify the risk of HCC occurrence after a sustained virological response (SVR) is achieved with direct-acting antivirals (DAAs) in patients with advanced liver fibrosis.

A recent study revealed that monoallelic missense or biallelic loss-of-function variants in the chloride voltage-gated channel 3 (CLCN3) cause neurodevelopmental disorders resulting in brain abnormalities. Functional studies suggested that some missense variants had varying gain-of-function effects on channel activity. Meanwhile, two patients with homozygous frameshift variants showed severe neuropsychiatric disorders and a range of brain structural abnormalities.

Article Synopsis
  • A multicenter study was conducted to assess the effectiveness of combining conventional endoscopy (CE) and endoscopic ultrasonography (EUS) for diagnosing early gastric cancer (EGC), particularly those suspected of submucosal invasion.
  • The study involved 180 patients, and results showed that the accuracy of EUS and the combination of CE and EUS were significantly better than CE alone, particularly in differentiated-type lesions and low-confidence cases.
  • Key findings included that irregular surface and submucosal tumor-like elevations were significant indicators of deeper invasion, highlighting EUS's additional diagnostic value for certain EGCs.
