Splicing-correcting therapeutic approaches for retinal dystrophies: where endogenous gene regulation and specificity matter.

Splicing is an important and highly regulated step in gene expression. The ability to modulate it can offer a therapeutic option for many genetic disorders. Antisense-mediated splicing-correction approaches have recently been successfully exploited for some genetic diseases, and are currently demonstrating safety and efficacy in different clinical trials.
