Innovative Catalysis for Carbon Recycling-IC2R, Via Camillo Rosalba 49, 70124 Bari, Italy.
The photochemical and photoelectrochemical reduction of CO is a promising approach for converting carbon dioxide into valuable chemicals (materials) and fuels. A key issue is ensuring the accuracy of experimental results in CO reduction reactions (CO2RRs) because of potential sources of false positives. This paper reports the results of investigations on various factors that may contribute to erroneous attribution of reduced-carbon species, including degradation of carbon species contained in photocatalysts, residual contaminants from synthetic procedures, laboratory glassware, environmental exposure, and the operator.

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the most common type of liver solid tumor and the second leading cause of cancer-related deaths worldwide. Although new treatment options have been recently approved, the development of tumor resistance and the poor prognosis for advanced HCC make the current standard of care unsatisfying. In this scenario, the non-receptor tyrosine kinase (TK) c-Src emerged as a promising target for developing new anti-HCC agents.

The rising demand for healthier alternatives to traditional sugary products has driven the exploration of natural substitutes for sucrose. This study aimed to investigate carob pulp flour (CPF) as a viable alternative to sucrose in the production of high-value jellies with enhanced health benefits. Carob pulp flour was spectroscopically characterized, revealing the presence of bioactive molecules, such as natural antidiabetic polyols and polyphenols.

Copper(ii) and zinc(ii) complexes with lapachol (HLap) of the composition [M(Lap)(N-N)] and [Cu(Lap)(HO)(terpy)]NO (4), where M = Cu (1-3) or Zn (for 5-7), and N-N stands for bathophenanthroline (1 and 5), 5-methyl-1,10-phenanthroline (2 and 6), 2,2'-bipyridine (3), 2,2';6',2''-terpyridine (terpy, 4) and 1,10-phenanthroline (7), were synthesised and characterised. Complexes 1-5 revealed strong antiproliferative effects against A2780, A2780R, MCF-7, PC-3, A549 and HOS human cancer lines and MRC-5 normal cells, with IC values above 0.5 μM, and reasonable selectivity index (SI), with SI > 3.

Objectives: We aimed to synthesise evidence from prospective studies of digital breast tomosynthesis (DBT) screening to assess its effectiveness compared to digital mammography (DM). Specifically, we examined whether DBT reduces interval cancer rates (ICRs) in population breast cancer screening.
Materials And Methods: We performed a systematic review and meta-analysis of DBT screening studies (identified from January 2013 to March 2024).

Background: Primary aldosteronism (PA), the most common curable salt-dependent form of arterial hypertension, features renal K loss and enhanced Na reabsorption. We investigated whether the electrolyte, water, and TonEBP (tonicity-responsive enhancer binding protein)/ (nuclear factor of activated T cells 5) content is altered in the skin of patients with PA and corrected by surgical cure.
Methods: We obtained skin biopsies from 80 subjects: 49 consecutive patients with PA, optimally treated with a mineralocorticoid receptor antagonist; 6 essential hypertensives; and 25 normotensive controls.
Objective: This study investigates the predictive role of indocyanine green angiography and thermography in assessing mastectomy skin flap necrosis in the intraoperative and postoperative setting.
Methods: A retrospective review of 45 patients who underwent nipple-sparing mastectomy and immediate prepectoral reconstruction was performed. Mastectomy flap viability was evaluated intraoperatively with indocyanine green angiography and thermography after placement of an implant sizer and again postoperatively at 24 hours.

Sirtuin 2 (SIRT2) belongs to the family of silent information regulators (sirtuins), which comprises nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD)-dependent protein lysine deacetylases. With a distribution across numerous tissues and organs of the human body, SIRT2 is involved in a wide range of physiological and pathological processes, such as regulating the cell cycle, energy metabolism, DNA repair, and tumorigenesis. Aberrant expression of SIRT2 has been closely associated with particular etiologies of human diseases, positioning SIRT2 as a promising therapeutic target.

Breast cancer stands as the most prevalent form of cancer amongst females, constituting more than one-third of all cancer cases affecting women. It causes aberrant cell development, which can assault or spread to other sections of the body, perhaps leading to the patient's death. Based on research findings, timely detection can diminish the likelihood of mortality and enhance the quality of healthcare provided for the illness.

Bacterial DNA gyrase is considered one of the validated targets for antibacterial drug discovery. Benzopyrones have been reported as promising derivatives that inhibit bacterial DNA gyrase B through competitive binding into the ATP binding site of the B subunit. In this study, we designed and synthesized twenty-two benzopyrone-based derivatives with different chemical features to assess their antimicrobial and photosensitizing activities.

Lung cancer is a leading cause of cancer-related death worldwide that needs updated therapies to contrast both the serious side effects and the occurrence of drug resistance. A panel of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) cells were herein employed as cancer models. Eight structurally related gold(I) and gold(III) complexes with NHC and halides or triphenylphosphane ligands were investigated as lung cancer cell growth inhibitors.

Cutaneous metastatic melanoma (CMM) is the most aggressive form of skin cancer with a poor prognosis. Drug-induced secondary tumorigenesis and the emergency of drug resistance worsen an already worrying scenario, thus rendering urgent the development of new treatments not dealing with mutable cellular processes. Triphenyl phosphonium salts (TPPSs), in addiction to acting as cytoplasmic membrane disruptors, are reported to be mitochondria-targeting compounds, exerting anticancer effects mainly by damaging their membranes and causing depolarization, impairing mitochondria functions and their DNA, triggering oxidative stress (OS), and priming primarily apoptotic cell death.
